Okay, I was hoping to use some of my older pokemon that I migrated, but whatever.

Will there be strict deadlines on the battles? My DSi is weird and the internet works only randomly.

Also, will everyone be using in-game teams?

The team I plan on using is the team I used during my run through Black, but I've played around with their movesets and the items they'll hold to try to make them competitive (given what we have to use anyway, since we need to re-earn a lot of the really good ones through the Battle Subway), and I gave any vitamins I found to them where I'd likely focus any EV training if I was doing that. But they're nowhere near as optimal as they could be, no. I'd imagine that most others will be using in-game teams as well, although I'm just guessing so I could be wrong with some people.

Not sure about how we're actually going to do the battles yet, or on what day(s) since we haven't gotten to that point in the planning, so I'm not sure how that's going to work.
If it's just casual, 3 vs 3 sounds good. It seems more like a test tournament than a serious one anyway.

Wifi battling is good but vulnerable to connection problems.

I know, but I think it'd be more fun if older pokemon were allowed. I'm sorry if I tried to make things more competitive.

we're not using older pokemon for this to make it more interesting than the usual metagame battles. there are all these cool new pokes out, so i thought it'd be fun to have a little tournament using just them. i like getting into the metagame and whatnot, but there's smogon for that. this is m2k2, baby.

as for the gen v banlist, yeah i know some of them most certainly won't be classified as uber by smogon (the musketeer "trio" comes to mind), but since the game is still so new it's easier to just ban all legendaries. who cares? as long as everyone gets to pick from the same pokes it's fair.

anyway, you're free to make a thread to organize your own tournament if you'd like to play by different rules.

i'll sign up for this. i've got my pokes from the white cart and maybe i'll have the black ones too by the time this happens.

sweet, added you to the first post.

so when do yall think we should start having the battles?
Depends on when everyone feels like they have a team ready, would be my guess. The one I'm using is set as far as their movepools are concerned, and I have items set to go for them (although I could have better ones if I pushed myself hard enough in the Subway) so other than maxing out their EVs through one method or another if I wanted to I think I'm set to go.

We have what, 8-9 people interested now? If we're only going to face each other once that shouldn't take too long overall unless we get a bunch of us with the same overall record for a second round. Obviously would be best to do it on a weekend from my perspective, but seeing as its Wednesday right now doing it this weekend might be too soon.

I'm pretty flexible as far as my schedule is concerned. Wednesdays are for the most part the only day I definitely have booked each week at this point in time, so I'd say it mostly depends on what everyone else thinks.

for the actual tournament itself i was planning on just giving everyone a week or two to have their battles on their own time. then people can just report their results and i'll keep track in the first post.
And that's why you're the one in charge here, and not me. laugh new

Yeah, that sounds much easier on everyone than trying to do it all at once. In that case, if we're basically set on how many people are going to participate I wouldn't have a problem starting them soon. Again, depends on where everyone else is in their planning stages.

think most people could use more time -- maybe we should start in mid to late april?

Yeah, two-four weeks should be enough time for everyone to finish the game and get a team together. I think I got to the end of the Elite Four around 25 hours in in both games, which feels like it was quicker than most of them have been recently, so I doubt it would take long for anyone who's still mid-story to get through it in time.

Also gives people like me who have finished a chance to examine my team and make any adjustments if I want before then.
So, how is everyone doing with their teams? Anyone else ready yet, or do we still need some more time before we start this? I understand if we do, I'm just curious because we're almost at the beginning of the window Ark suggested two posts up from here.
red chamber dream
sorry, i've been incredibly busy - can't believe it's mid-april already! my team is ready whenever, but since no one's really posted, how about we start on 22 april (a week from friday)?

Sounds good to me. I haven't really touched my team in a few weeks either since I transferred over my lvl 100 team and re did their EV training in order to use them in the Battle Subway to try and win some items. Otherwise my team is set as well even though there are still a few other B/W Pokemon I'd considered trying out instead of simply going with the 6 I had for my run through Black.
red chamber dream
yeah i'm just going to wing it with what i have. i'd made a 6-poke team, so it'll be interesting to try and cut it down to just 3.
Well, it's possible we'll still have the team of 6 but get to choose which 3 we want each round kind of like the old Stadium games. I know that's how the random Wi-Fi matches work at least, including being able to see the opponent's team and being able to try and predict which ones they'll send out/determine which of yours will do best against the opponent.

ah, yeah you can do that iirc. still pretty lame though.

Would it be possible for the Wifi settings to change in the future to allow lv 100 6v6 matches or are we stuck with what we have?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
This is Nintendo we're talking about, making an actually good online mode is not really an option.
red chamber dream
nintendo doesn't understand what the internet is, so i can't see them doing that. also it wouldn't be possible without updating data on the game cart itself which afaik nintendo has never done before because they're living in the 90s.

eff i forgot about this. i'm just barely done with black atm.

i might end up just getting together 6 of the pokes i used to beat both games and go with it.
red chamber dream
well, you only really need 3 good ones. but can't hurt to have more to pick from.

Ah this was my fear.

Idk about wifi setting but I know that in local wireless you can do 6v6 but only 3v3 if you default everyone to lv 50. Is wifi the same way?
red chamber dream
unfortunately not. the only way to do 6v6 over wireless is an unrestricted match, which does not autolevel your pokes. so lame.
