Here's another damage boost that saves a little bit of time. You have to take damage from one of the enemies anyway, so might as well gain some speed from it!
Cool I think TAS's do that. Unfortunatly that's a NTSC trick only as the enemys placement is different in that room. If I'm really quick on PAL I can get up there without any of the flying bastards swooping down in which case I get right to the top before they get a chance to.
hmmm. You can do that but you have to delay going up there too soon. I see you spent a bit of time down below to let the wavers pattern take him to the left slightly so you could wall jump on the right.
I tried it, it works but you have to delay samus a bit after the last barrier before going up there to do this PAL trick. If you shoot the ceiling and immediatly go up there that waver is so anoyingly placed for wherever you manouver samus into that area.
Any case it's a good find and I shall try it on console as any little delay that is needed for the damage boost at the end is better than going up there only to be knocked back down again like always happens to me.
That does indeed work that !. That hop is just the exact amount of time needed for the waver to move to the left. But still you really have to hug the right wall, and once you've done that second wall jump, timing the damage boost can be difficult. After the second wall jump you have to arc left and then right again to line up for the damage boost. So it might be safer to arc left and simply get hit and land on the platform.
I'll try my best to get it to work properly with a damage boost.
aha I just tried that. That's evidently quicker because samus manages to sometimes by pass all of them and practically touch the metal ceiling LOL.
The prospect of doing 3 quick wall jumps into the unseen area seemed like it would make it more difficult but it actually makes it easier because your getting up there quicker and so the waver is better positioned closer to the right wall for an easier damage boost
I'm actually very consistant with it now, damage boosting and all !. cheers. This should be saving a good 2 or 3 seconds for my runs because this used to be a huge pain as I always wall jumped up there and got knocked down by that pesky waver coming down
The big ramp heading downwards with the mushrooms and the crawlers on them? that room is a son of a bitch. Sometimes I just take damage intentionally and manage to shoot both crawlers on the floor. I've practiced a lot on that room but it's only ever luck if I go through it without taking damage
Inspired by 072 i managed to get a fast and consistent way, at least for me, to pass this room. The trick here is to unmorph under the last gate, hold up+righ to shoot and break the block. Do Two Long and fast Wall Jumps, after the second, you have to position Samus on the middle of the hole and facing right to get the damageboost. And if you miss the damage, the flying creature will push Samus to the plataform and all you have to do is run. Not too hard and very fast. Give it a try guys. * NTCS version and snes9x 1.43.
I know what you mean. I think it's essential to be still when you do the shot so that the shot doesn't miss or samus doesn't jump too far. If your gonna hop or not, you still need to be partially still when you shoot so you don't miss
Every time I try to do it without hopping, I either miss the shot or run too fast and miss the jump...
It's easier and safer if you don't run. Just unmorph under the Gate, hold up+right and shoot imediately after the first step, and just jump and wall jump to the top. Don't use the run button after unmorph to get to the top, just use it after the Damageboost.
When you hold up, aim up and shoot together, samus will shoot horizontally instead of diagonal up like you want to. So a tiny delay for the shot after unmorphing is nesassary.
Gotcha. It's definatley an anoying habit of mine to shoot too soon after unmorphing when you want to shoot up, and she flaming well shoots horizontally when her arm cannon is pointing up wtf LOL
Exactly, that's why i said to shoot after the first step. So you'll have no problems missing the shot and after that Samus will be in the position to jump.
Man, it's such a pitty that you don't speedrun NTSC... There are some tricks that you can't use on PAL version. The waver room is one of them, and the Pre-Draygon Shinespark, and the "Terminator" trick, and the mockball in norfair lava room... and there's probably more... Wouldn't you try a NTSC speedrun? I'm not saying for you to play only NTSC but, as the any% record of the PAL is your's already, maybe you can give the NTSC version a Try.
Well I've certainly thought of it, but I thought I'd leave it to you guys. I get the impression you want to beat hotarubi's record. I have no problem just running the PAL game. To me both versions arnt that different, The tricks you mentioned can have variations of them on PAL. There is a waver room strat. 072 showed me and I can do that now, which has a damage boost a the top as well. On PAL you can do a variation of the pre draygon shinespark which does half the room. It's possible to be skillful enough to clear all the enemies in the giant ramp room after bombs.
Most people have the impression that PAL is inferior to the NTSC version. I completely dissagree. Both of them are just as good as each other and I don't look at them too differently when I play them back to back. It's a case of growing up with something and being accustomed to it. I have no preferance for either version. I just don't feel like this version should be left out.
put it this way. I started speed running this game before I understood PAL and NTSC differences. Hell I didn't even know what that even meant back then.
I'm planning to get 33 minutes. A lot of people don't like it when I use comparison times between the two versions, but due to extensive testing, I've found out that 33 minutes on PAL is pretty much equivelent to 30 minutes NTSC.
Wait, why can't you do the pre-draygon shinespark on the PAL version? I imagine there would be a bit less leeway because of the slower door opening, but it should still be doable.
The flash time for shinespark is shorter on PAL. If it isn't this reason then I'm not sure what it is. All I can say is try it yourself. I've never managed it on console. Only tool assisted where I slowed the game down to do extremly fast wall jumping and good ledge grabbing at the top. The door isn't a concern
It's so difficult. Instead I unleash shinespark mid air after shooting the door, in the same room, to cover about half the distance in the big room
I'm pretty sure the gravity jump is useless here as well and actually turns out to be slower than wall jumping as fast as you can right from the bottom
I've come very close to activating it in the right spot before. I must have been one tenth of a second out or something. I doubt I could ever repeat that speed.
