I've asked this before but, what is this obsession with playing games online? I've played some online multiplayer games and can't see what's so great about it.

That's exactly how I feel.

I've played some games online as well.  The main draw is that you get to play with random opponents, and they can even theoretically be anywhere in the world.

I'd much rather play against the guy sitting next to me on the couch, though.  There are many reasons, like knowing that winning means I've beaten my brother, and losing means I didn't get owned by some chump.  Plus the internet allows lots of people to act like kraids.  On forums they get banned, but you rarely have such luck in games.
what if the person you're playing with/against from across the world is closer to you than your own brother?

Like my sister in Central Asia?  I play online with my friends in other states sometimes, but I think the random people that online gaming affords limitless numbers of aren't much fun to play against.
Wow, Nate is phycic (reading people mind sorry can't spell) or just a lucky guess i guess.

ah, ok, i gotcha. yeah, i'm definitely seeing where you're coming from now. i guess my point would be, then, that without online play, you can't go against those few you really love, even though the majority of people are worthless to you.
Darn, this is a let down.  I think the option of online play is a great thing.  Its better to have it for the players that want it.  Then the ones that don't want it don't have to play it.  Everybody wins.  But now we shall have to wait till MP3 for online play.... or will we?
Guys, sit back and really think about this for a few minutes.  Making a stable online multiplayer game isn't easy by any stretch.  When you take that idea and try to implement it on a mobile platform you also have to worry about other things such as battery conservation and signal strength on top of the other big issues (like servers).  Then you have to have good multiplayer code in the actual game that can handle latency and network problems gracefully.

Now, think of how players would communicate with one another.  With a DS that would most definitely be voice communication.  Now on top of the network issues that would need to be resolved, you'd have to find a light, quick, extremely bandwidth-friendly voice codec that the DS would be able to work with on-the-fly while running the game.

What I'm trying to say is that it's not simple at all.  Before you criticize Nintendo about making a decision like this really think about how practical it is to begin with.  I'm sure one day they will have a very nice infrastructure set up for online games, but now is not the time, obviously.

I especially agree with that last sentence, Spectere. And I think that if Nintendo chooses to do massive online gaming in the future, it will be the best online gaming ever conceived.

But you have to think for a second: nowadays, when a game is made so it can be played online, all the thought is put into the online aspect of the game, and the single player mode is average or just sucks completely. I'm not saying it's like that with all online games, but it's true with a lot of them.
i really need to play cs:cz. the single player actually looked really fun.

Right, I'm pretty sure you're making a point with sarcasm there, but just in case you're not, everyone says it's shit.
>_>

yeah ... that was sarcasm ... right ...

DERAIL'D.

But anyway, CZ is just terrible.  I'd rather be forced to play CS with nothing but a knife against a team of 16 AWP-equiped elite players on a completely open map for two hours straight than be subjected to CZ.
wow. that's pretty bad.

Woo, we crushed Nate's dream.

High Five!

No online is not that much of a setback for me. I was initially annoyed, but now I don't really mind. Single-cart multiplayer is going to be awesome.

About Nintendo Wifi. From what I've heard, it is going to be the best online system yet. Here hoping that the reports are correct...
There wasn't going to be online, yes. HOWEVER, check this and/or this.
The most recent delay was so that they could add online functionality. Which is awesome.
It is, by the way, currently scheduled to come out on March 20.

... if they werent going to add online capabilities to it, then why does it say they are on the wifi site?
The game was delayed.  At the time this topic was created, it was correct.
