Didn't we all know by now that the artstyle was very similar to final fantasy?...
Why the reaction?
Because they're trying to sell this with sentimental cutscenes.
Anywhere, everywhere
"Any objections, lady?" *stupid thumbs down*

Yeah, that ruined the coolness of that scene...
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Man, that video is stupid.  The whole story they're trying to convey is stupid....that's all I have to say.
One shall stand, one shall ball.

I have to disagree with you there, the thumbs down gesture is just so hilariously emphatic that it becomes awesome. Best part of the video.

It'd be p cool if they actually remembered that this was a game and people might want to see gameplay now and then though.

Would definitely be nice to see some gameplay footage, but I'll take anything I can get from Nintendo these days.

As far as the trailer itself, I actually liked it. Granted, I'm in the "I want to see more of Samus' backstory/personality" camp, so that obviously influences my opinion on the matter. Samus' voice sounds a lot better here than it did in the leaked intro to me, and if she's more like that than the "read off of the script" version I'll be happy. (There's more emotion here, which is good.) Not sure about the change they made to Adam's voice though. Have to hear more from him before I can say otherwise.
It seems to me like a bunch of random emptional crap that really has no meaning.  I really don't see how a bounty hunter who has already kicked the asses of thousands of Space Pirates, Ridley, Mother Brain, Metroid Prime, Dark Samus, and a buch of Metroids could really be that scared.
The way I saw it was Samus talking about her days in the Federation, before she did anything from the games.
Yeah that makes sense.
It seems like Nintendo/Team Ninja are more interested in the story than the gameplay. I mean if this is meant to be a trailer, then what's wrong with showing some actual gameplay? The story doesn't seem interesting and every time I see more of it, my desire to buy this game decreases. If there's going to be these stupid cutscenes, then I sincerely hope there's just a couple and that the game isn't littered with them.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
The worst part of the promotional stuff so far is that all it really shows off is the prerendered cutscenes, and then some stills from the game at a higher resolution than you'd actually see in the real game. Nobody actually knows what the game looks like, good job Nintendo.
ANKOKU
I don't know if this is how you wanted that to be taken bob but... what I got from that was:
"The worst part is all we've seen is better graphics than what we're going to get."

Meaning Graphics would be most important to you.

Which would make you a grafixkiddie, and make your opinions void to practically any other Nintendo fan. And I sincerely hope that that wasn't what you were trying to get across.

Also, we HAVE seen gameplay, just not a lot of it. It's readily apparent from the first video.
And Prime, they have stated that they are focusing a lot on the plot. So your hope for "just a couple" cutscenes is going to be quite verily crushed.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Graphics are pretty important, yes. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit. So you can drop the Nintendo fans don't care bout no graphics and don't care bout no 'grafixkiddies' bit, that only exists because Nintendo fans care a fuckton about graphics but want to make the silly 'troo fanz' argument idiot fans love.

What I was getting at was the incredibly misleading nature of what they've shown off, gameplay from the E3 trailer doesn't mean much, it wasn't much more than "Yeah, you can totally tackle the shit out of that space pirate!" repeated a few times over. With a release date in June, I'd like to have seen something substantial by now. It's like they really want to say, "Hey guys the Wii can do graphics, see! Also this one's got crazy plot all over the place with these totally sweet cutscenes just like Final Fantasy!" but they're still trying to sell an action game.

Imagine you have this car, some super environmentally friendly car that looks every bit like your average gasoline fueled car instead of those retarded looking hybrids and such but costs less money to keep running. Instead of selling this car on what it is designed for and what it does well you give it a bitchin' paint job, stick a spoiler on it, toss on some nice rims, and say to everyone, "Does this car not look awesome? It looks like it's doin' eighty sitting still, buy this and bitches'll be all up on you you won't know what to do with them." Of course once people actually go to buy the car they find that it doesn't look at all like the one they were told about and in fact looks incredibly average, not knowing how it performs or why it's special since no one has said a word about that they decide to take their money somewhere else. That's how Nintendo is selling Other M.

What do we know about Other M besides it's title, OMG PLOT!!! CUTSCENES WEEEE!, there's shooting in there somewhere, and that it's got a 2d-ish presentation? All we've really go is that after Super Metroid Samus gets really melodramatic and ends up on this "bottle ship" with her old CO and a bunch of soldiers. What any of the game at that point looks like or plays like is a mystery because HEY GUYS SAMUS IS NARRATING THIS SHIT CHECK IT OUT WE GOT SOME DEEP ENGAGING PLOT UP IN THIS BITCH also it's a action game! Some media people got a look at it, but they aren't he ones buying it and they aren't there to sell it. They can say it plays like 2d Metroid but what does that mean to someone who doesn't know how 2d Metroid plays? It doesn't do non fans of the 2d games any good, they'd want to know more so they can decide whether they should even bother. But the can't know more because Nintendo wants everyone to know about the pretty cutscenes. They're playing this one very close to the chest and that does not inspire confidence. Until we see something significant all we know is that there might be a pretty good action game between all the cutscenes.

Okay so you're more worried about it basically being a rosied up piece of shit. Looks prettier, might smell better, but it's still shit. And that makes sense because I'd agree that given what we've seen the gameplay COULD be shit. I'm just more optimistic.

And I'd still take what you said as a "grafix kiddie" statement. I am a Nintendo fan and I don't give a shit about graphics. RE4 is all the graphics I'd ever want, so if they can do that then we're good. No need to get all pissy over "they're showing us shit we won't ever see again!" It's not like the game we're going to get is going to end up looking like Superman 64. So we may not get as much bloom or shine, or we might be knocked down a single level in terms of resolution. Why on earth does that matter so much? We're at the point where the only way to tell differences in resolutions is to watch things on a thousand inch screen.

This game probably wont bother me that much but I have a general opinion. Probably it is just a story-trailer. If they release something like a demo before release you will know how the car drives and everything is fine. A trailer is meant to tease gamers and keep things secret. Some say better show nothing until release while other say show at least somethng.

I throw some food for more information about the controls in random of interest:

"Other M is played with the Wii Remote only. Holding it sideways, you'll move Samus around in third-person, using the one and two buttons to jump and shoot. Samus will auto-lock onto enemies around her, to an extent -- you do have to be generally facing the enemies for her auto-lock to engage. You can't aim up or down independently. The camera is entirely controlled by the game, and is always in the right spot, panning and zooming gently as you move throughout the rooms to give you the best, most dramatic view of where you're headed.

The A button drops you into Morph Ball mode, and pressing one will drop bombs. Later in the game, you'll hold the one button to charge up and let loose with face-melting Power Bombs.

Got all that? Well, here's where it gets interesting.

If you point the Wiimote at the screen, you'll automatically jump into first-person mode. In first-person, which looks just like Prime, you can't move your feet. You can rotate in place, looking up, down, and all around, by holding the B button. This is also used to lock on to things you want to examine, and most importantly lock on to enemies. Once you're locked on, you can blast them with your arm cannon or fire missiles at them. You can only fire missiles in first-person... "

Hmm...
Metroid is probably is the second last thing I will hate in my life, but I just realized that the other m is a very stupid title... no offence

It's not so much pessimism on my part as it is Nintendo's presentation of the game so far making it seem like they aren't sure about how the game's going to turn out, like they're hedging their bets so that if people aren't loving the action they can claim it was more about the story anyway and the action was secondary. That just seems off to me.

Think about that for a second.

Done? Good.
If you didn't care about graphics you'd be cool with that Atari E.T. game. Graphics matter. They matter a lot. First thing that grabs someone with a game is how it looks, bad graphics drive people away because they can't tell the good shit from the bad shit. Because it's all shit. Visuals matter more to some than others, obviously, but to say "RE4 is all the graphics I'll ever want" while stressing the fact that you don't care about graphics is like saying, "I don't care about my dinner, barbecued ribs are just fine by me." Are there better things to eat that barbecued ribs? Sure, but are barbecued ribs goddamned delicious? Yes, they are in fact goddamned delicious. Very noble of you to settle for them, not like those "gourmet kiddies". You are better than them.

The difference between RE4 and most current gen games is pretty small, especially if we're talking Wii. To further point out how wrong you are I'll point out that I still regularly play X-Com, among many other old graphically shitty games by today's standards.

There's more to graphics than how real that Samus in the cutscene looks. I contend that Metroid Prime and Wind Waker had the best graphics on the Gamecube, maybe not technically, but aesthetically, not much beats them. The graphics were what initially drew my attention to Prime. The in game graphics. That's what got me to look at gameplay videos and see that I needed that game. Visuals are the initial draw, but they still play a role in the gameplay. Nice looking, interesting environments made Prime's gameplay that much better, you want to explore that planet because something that nice deserves to be explored. The enemies looked good so you don't mind so much when they get in your way. There's no way Prime would have been as good without being so visually appealing. Look at Prime 2, like Prime but with better graphics right? Technically it looks better than Prime, less boxy some better effects, and what not. I hate Prime 2's graphics. It's boring and bland as all hell and the only place I can stand is Torvus because it actually has things in it. Plant life, water, hostile plant life, color that isn't just brown like Agon or the gray/brown of the Temple Grounds and without the barren blandness of those two and Sanctuary. Seriously, go take a look at Agon and the Temple Grounds, there's nothing to them, Agon was supposed to be a desert yes, but desert doesn't mean boring. Chozo Ruins was a better desert area and I didn't even think of it that way until Ark called it that once. It was nice to look at though and it threw in some variation with the indoors areas full of water and plant life to contrast the deserted look of the early parts of it. Torvus countered the organic opening with a more technological submerged area, none of the other areas had that same "feel" graphically, they were totally unremarkable. It looked boring, it played boring, and thus there wasn't anything to make me really want to go back to the game and explore those areas again. So yeah, graphics matter.

Wind Waker looked 100% better than Twilight Princess, I still start it up now and then just to watch the opening scroll when you start a new game, it has a great look that combines with the music to be one of the best intros I've ever seen. But there are plenty of other things going for it, that game has more personality than any other game on the system and it's all conveyed by the visuals and all of it makes putting up with the boring sailing worth the time. I wouldn't have bothered with the game after the first completion if it wasn't so much fun to look at. I find the sailing that boring. Graphics matter.

If I was cool like all those Nintendo fans and didn't care about graphics I'd love Twilight Princess's look, the bland of Echoes, and the new world order of brown that has taken over video games would be the greatest thing ever to me. But I do care about graphics and their effect on the gameplay, I like it when games take on their own visual style and use it to set itself apart from all the other games that try to sell themselves with nice graphics, I like seeing my character, npcs, and objects animate smoothly when things heat up in the game because it only enhances the game experience. And if that makes me some evil Grafix Kiddie, Enemy of Nintendo so be it. You're still wrong though.

They are attempting to grab the "grafix kiddies" and JRPG fans who imagine their favorite games to carry deep and amazing stories, and only the latter might be satisfied because they think all JRPGs have great and engrossing stories and therefore will drink up any and all melodramatic silliness as incredible writing. I can understand why they are doing it, but I don't buy games based on the inclusion of incredible cinematics, I want to know what the game looks like, to see it in action. Show me why I want to sit through the cutscenes, what's on the other side, you know, the fun part. Because I've got Metroid Prime sitting right there next to my Wii and Metroid Zero mission by my DS, those are fun games that don't hammer me with cutscenes, so what is going to compel me to buy this new game if all I have to go on is the presence of what is sounding like an incredibly lame plot and pretty cutscenes to present it?

Thanks for the oh-so-literal translation there bob. I'm just letting you know that at that point I stopped reading, seeing as it's a logical fallacy of reductio ad absurdem.

I will admit that I skimmed the rest of your wall of text, and it seemed like you had some good points, but that right there just shot your argument out the window.

Holy crap Tbob, you sure had a lot to say. Read it, and I totally agree.

Sabata, don't be mad

totally agree with tbob here too ... to suggest that graphics don't mean anything to you is selling yourself short as a human being. one of the key parts to video game are visuals, and if you supposedly don't care about them then you're literally missing a huge chunk of the experience. it's not "cool" to only care about gameplay and nothing else - not sure where people have gotten that idea. what's cool to me is using as many senses as possible to enjoy something to its full potential. so fuck games with shit graphics. i want to be impressed when i first look at a game ... and every time after that.

by the way, if re4 is "all the graphics you'd ever want", i highly suggest playing re5 in 1080p. still blows me away.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Also notable that while good graphics don't make a bad game fun, bad graphics can ruin a good game.
