I've made it pretty far by myself. Naturally, I've been using savestates a bit, but I've gotten really good. I'm saved right before the trip to Phantoon. Surprisingly, I didn't get all that frustrated on the latest challenge. I refuse to use any tools besides savestates, so I'm going to beat this thing for real.

As for my equipment:
2 missile tanks, 3 etanks, 1 super tank, spazer, morphing ball, bombs, and Hello-Jump boots.

It's been a real treat thus far, and major surprises are really very surprising. Thanks for the hack, Saturn!

I better get to sleep. The addiction is so delicious....

Very good attitude. It's exactly how you are supposed to beat it. It never required slowdowns for that.

Good luck for the next quests!
Almost happy
I was more or less forced to use slowdown at 1 point in the game, GT I noticed that 7 E-tanks + 4 reserve was far to little, also since i had so few tanks a CF was necessary and then I had only 10 SM left. So I had to use slowdown and a million load and save states to luckmanipulate the crap out of him and still I only had 15 hp when the drops came to the rescue... Aside from that I think I did everything in realtime though some jumps were just mean.

Savestates are the only extra i even know HOW to use, and am about to begin Impossible. So, i stand likely not to be able to finish Impossible, if it's as crazy  as  gossip says, but that's okay, the playing not the getting there is more 'real'.

I meant to insert a "technically" in that last sentence, since using savestates makes it less real. >_> oops.
I don't know any technique (don't know as in can't execute) other than walljumping and sometimes bomb jumping, should I even attempt this thing?

Hmm...probably not. You're probably never going to reach Red Brinstar, although I suppose you might technically be able to reach n00b bridge if you're really good at the tricks you have learned.

Although if you haven't played Redesign yet, that's a pretty good one. It doesn't require anything you're not expected to learn in the normal game, yet is still a bit harder than SM. More in the sense of exploration though, so it's not like you're constantly having to save-state there. It takes more patience than skill.
Yeah I watched Saturn's Redesign video and it was more like tedious, it didn't require extreme skill but extreme patience since the areas were so large and pointless...

...hey guys I think Phantoon might be a bit too hard for me >_>

Kraid had at least only been tedious, as had been the sub-bosses, but there is apparently no reliable method of avoiding Phantoon's attacks at this point. Is there another upgrade or should I just backtrack and search for energy tanks? >_<
Almost happy
No I don't think you should have anything else at this point... Sadly the chances are that if you have this much problem with phantoon you will really go bananas once you reach the three main pains in the asses boss battles, Draygon, Gold torizo and ridley.

Whenever something seems to impossible the only thing you really can do is to use more savestates, to predict each patter he uses.

So I just have to keep savestating every time I hit him and not take damage? >_<
On crazy tough fights i usually savestate after i pull a couple of good evades, so if i load the save everything up to that point has been helpful towards finishing the boss

in my nonhumble opinion, the areas in Redeisgn were very memorable... the design was sort of epic. The layout of the rooms.

After like five savestates, I finally took him out. -_-

and about SMR, yes he did a fantastic job, and anyone that loves SM for it's exploratory factor has to get it. It's just that it's so...huge....
i finally started Impossible, and. cough, with ONE cheat..
i started with X-ray!!  MO00Ooohahahaha
(is it's only to save me long searches in the 2D world in some rooms... not exciting after knowing the 3D world of modern games)

Nooo! Someone beat me to the xray!  Wink

JaggerG: You actually are missing the charge beam, not that I'm going to tell you outright where it is...

Nope AFAIK you need powerbombs for it. Although it was some time since I played it last so i might be wrong.

Hmm, pagebreaks has happened to me often lately. Coincidence, I think not...

Hmm maybe i USE the stolen XRAy to find the x-ray, no? heheheheheh, yes i think that will do nicely... O:)
EM? but hold methiinks i recall Saturn saying its too hidden even for that.

I think this hack is really neat, since it's laid out like the original.. something powerful there. I just learned mockball yesterday thanks to another thread here, and ehm >
Noticed the mockball seemed to come in play in early hot green Brinstar.. the collapsing bridge. Because the room before has a blue lock cannot shoot w/o wave to get back. I did not think i could make it at first... gotta tap the jump so not to hit cieling spikes, then do a rather quick mockballistic. Then it's like, Koooool.
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Yeah, Che,
Actually if you really need to, you can use the temporary invincibility to jump into the spikes so you don't have to be fast at all to make it. Kinda like in MMX2, you use an enemy projectile to get invincibility and jump off the spikes to get an E tank. ;^)

But glad you did it as originally intended.
For the past few days i have been working my butt off trying to complete this hack. It was a lot of fun, and i am kind of sad that its over (yeah yeah 100% ... but i will pass for now). You did a good job on this Saturn.

Also i appreciate the help, and hints left in this thread with out them there is no way i could have completed this hack because some parts are just .... uugh.

normally i don't like using save states but i made an exception many times during metroid impossible, without them its ... impossible

I found it pretty funny that mother brains fire beam attack takes 10 e-tanks when you get hit by it.

-- all that being said --

                            Time completed:
6:45

                            Items collected:
81%
I've gotten quite along, now the main barrier i keep coming to are grapple blocks. Somehow i overlooked grapplebeam. Anyone care to throw me a good sized bone? I don't want to wander again, and have S'Missiles and Power Bombs, spazer and plasma.
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
I imagine I'm supposed to get Grapple Beam also, but I can't be 100% sure. I'm seeing oh so many cracked grapple blocks, and I feel like I've run out of areas to search. I'm gonna find out soon, and if I do find it, I'm not gonna tell you because I'm cruel like that. Bah, hah, hah, and a bottle of milk.
I'm not gonna search all day and stuff{altho that would make probable success), but this thread says
it is near the wave beam
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Oh that's great. Too bad that doesn't help me quite yet, though.

Although I have made a bit of progress tonight! I have concluded that the vast majority of one of the areas I can currently access thus far is NOT the right direction! And it only took me about four hours and hundreds of rerecords involving luck manipulation! I feel so dirty all over....

Said area may be ruled back in if my next item just so happens to be an energy tank. At this rate, though, I'm expecting it to hand me another Missile tank and start laughing at me. The other night, I received one of the most useful items in existence, and there just so happen to be a grand total of 2 places I can reach that I couldn't before. These 2 places are made entirely of death and hurt, though, so it's really only just a bit easier to travel. Back and forth. Over and over.

Okay seriously, 3 etanks, 4 missile tanks, 2 super tanks, Morphong shoes, bombos, Hello-Jump, Spazer, and the Space Jump, and I'm locked out of the beginning of Crateria still. >_< I ran into one grey door after Crocomire, but that had been after defeating Phantoon, also, so I'm pretty stuck here. My last hope is bombing absolutely every single block in the big Crateria Lake area. I read some place that all the rooms have the same amount of items as they did in the normal version. Is this still correct? Also, is it true that bombs no longer reveal all? Or am I just getting more and more paranoid every hour?
Have you tried
getting to draygon? well lets take things one at a time botwoon? (no gravity suit = no problem)

JaggerG: You were a bit quick to exit the Wrecked Ship. That's all I'm saying for now. Also, yes, hidden grapple blocks can only be revealed by grappling them. You don't need to worry over that until you try for 100%, though.
