Maybe I will make a second version of the hack in which I will remove the most hard parts like the horizontal bomb jump (which can be replaced by a frame-perfect jump+walljump though) or a flawless 1 try vertical bomb-jump. I will continue the hack in about 2 weeks after my exams.

Since you play on a emulator you can use savestates right before the critical 1-try parts if you're not skilled enough to manage them. Althought its a kind of cheating this would help alot to pass the hack for average players too.
Well I would, only my emu refuses point blank to save anything! This will be even harder for me...
Just try another emulator or version then. There is always a way to save states.

I recommend ZSNES www.zsnes.com or Snes9x www.snes9x.com
Oh well, if I can do it without saving, I might come within being 1/10 as good as Kej!
I, personaly, could never get snes9x to work...

Anywho, ontopic:  I would really like to play this, but zsnes's button config is a bit confusing to me, is there any way to change it from: a,s,d,z,x,c, to other buttons without stopping all other functions?

I dunno, my PS2 adapted controller works just great when I screw the PC drivers that came with it and use Windows's default drivers.

Yes. Go to Options, then Input #1, then just click on the buttons and set them to whatever. Most of the letters don't have functions on them IIRC.
I just stick with the conltrols Zsnes gives you to begin with. I own with them. 8)

I wonder if anyone has compiled a Moonwalk run...

Make sure the folder where you're storing your emu and all related files isn't read-only, or you'll never be able to get savestates working correctly. :P
It's on a disc...which I think is write-protected... Evil or Very Mad

Thanks, I remember the first time I played sm on zsnes, I had trouble with the space stationg Embarassed
OK, mine saves properly now. It was the write-protected disc the whole time. :D
Any news about your hack, saturn?
I decided to delay the work on the hack for the next year. I'm sorry for that but I got a bit frustrated about the hack since I noticed some bugs that have appeared after some changings and I'm not very interested to search for a solution to fix them right now.

I also promised to make a Super Metroid any% TAS a long time ago already, trying to break all existing records in that category. I predict my completion time will be around 22-24 min using the newest speed-tricks/glitches. For those who are interested follow the progress here: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/forum/viewtopic.php?p=55938#55938

I will release the first WIP after the Torizo fight where I get the Bombs which will be in about 1-2 weeks for those who are interested.

After this run is finished I will continue the hack again.
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
If you're running into bugs and you can't figure out what's wrong, feel free to ask me for help.
Thanks for the offer. The major bug is when I try to change a enemy into a different one (mostly into stronger ones like the late Pirates of Maridia or Norfair) they are there in the game, shoot at you make the same damage etc. but the graphic is screwed up. You can't see them at all or only some strange coloured tiles. I would like to know if its possible to keep the graphic of them intact even in different locations. I even changed the setting which says: "Enemies allowed in this room" to the one I want to have there but it still is screwed up.

Maybe it's just a bug in SMILE which will be fixed in the next versions, I don't know.
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
There are a bunch of settings with enemies that determine how they work, and they're often specially coded for each enemy. You'll often need to go to a room where the enemy is normally used, and use similar settings as those. Or you can go and look at the programming for that specific enemy to figure out how everything works.

Also, a few enemies require palletes or tiles from other enemies. So you may need to enable multiple enemies for a single one to work properly. For example, the green dragons in the power bomb room right next to Samus's ship get their pallete from the Oumu, which uses the same counter value as the dragons.
I see, its a complicated thing. When I come back to the hack I will check it out more exactly. If this still won't work I will use other strategies which I have already planed for this case to compensate the difficulty.
Shame about the delay, but still, at least there's still a chance we'll get something...
After more than one year of delays, up's and down's with this project I now have good news for you all:

The Hack is done!!! Download it!

Hope you enjoy it. :)

Then practise until you can! It's just a very small warm up for the next quests. :)

And thanks for the reminder, I will mention it in the main post.

Wow, how the heck could you find out? I thought there isn't a chance to do so in the early stage.  :o
