The LOTR analogy I'm guessing. I'd put it more like LOTR without Gollum, the Ringwraiths, Smaug from the Hobbit, etc. It's possible to have moments without them, but if you're taking out some of the most dangerous enemies in the lore than the threat to the hero(es) isn't nearly as big as it's supposed to be.

Unfortunately, given how Metroids have been treated in nearly every game since Super, it's kinda hard for them to emanate the same kind of threat level as that they originally had, which I think is what most of us want from them again.
They didnt have that much of a threat level in Super.  For me Zero Mission was terrible (porbably cuz it was the first game I played with actual Metroids)  Especially in one room where a Metroid would get on me, I would bomb to get him off, but the bomb made the floor diappear and I would fall into a pit of several more metroids.  AT that point the only thing I could do was try to kill them while getting my life drained one at a time.

Btw, is it possible to bomb the Metroids off you in Super?  I tried it and it didnt work

It's a lot harder to there than in any other game as far as I'm concerned. It IS possible though.

But yeah, you're right in that ZM is one of the few since the series came back where they are still a threat. That one room alone is a good reason why.
I'm pretty sure they come off of you in Super as long as the bomb hits right on them (which normally means laying one after a bomb jump).

As a matter of fact, I never had problems with that room in ZM. I don't let the metroids latch on to me too much, which is probably why.

never had problems with metroid, apart from metroid 2, but that is probably because you couldn't aim diagonally...
Quote from UchihaSasuke:
Metroid without Metroids already happened

it was called Metroid Prime Hunters

I was gonna say that, but you beat me to it.  I'm all for new ideas but Hunters wasn't exceptional.

the problem with hunters is that it only have 2 bosses, that are recycled like 3~4 times each...
Club 27 Goals
depends if you count the other hunters as bosses.

no i dont, they are nowhere near as bosses...

the only time i had problems was with noxus (the first time you fight him) all the others were boring.
Maybe the metroids were on a different planet... still suriviving with no one knowing about them.

I'm sure the Fed has plenty more cultures to use. That and Samus now carries Metroid DNA. Even if Samus manages to destroy what Metroid DNA the Fed has, they'll be after her. I'm sure Samus knows what it's like to be the hunted by now.

Besides... If the Chozo made Metroids to control X, they could've easily made them for other purposes. Who knows perhaps Chozo elsewhere thought they'd make good pets if they tinkered with them more. Maybe Chozo elsewhere are breeding them for their equivalent of dog shows or other stuff like... making them glow in the dark, produce milk, make biofuels, cure cancer...

Or keeping runaway species in check.
