This step NEEDS to be taken soon, Metroid 2 was the biggest mistake ever, ever since then Nintendo has been making EXCUSES to put metroids back into later games! If metroid dread comes out, I would REALLY prefer it not to have metroids at all, just a game about Samus and the aftermath of the BSL incident.
Thread title:
its because nintendo is reatarded.  i would mind if there wasnt metroids, as long as there was some equivalent enemy.

I for one LIKE the metroids in Metroid 2.  I think it is NOT a mistake, but gives metroids more depth.  The fact that they played a LESS role in later games is less desirable.
I think it's more the idea that the Metroids were exterminated, not the evolution types themselves. People love those as far as I can tell, myself being one of them, but it's getting harder for them to appear in games post ROS. Although I don't see why the Federation, through their "brilliant" idea of the Metroid breeding program, couldn't have ended up starting the cycle over and Metroids are naturally growing on some planet again, which would solve everything.

Metroid without Metroids already happened

it was called Metroid Prime Hunters
But maybe Quadtroids there are some realtive to Metroids?
Easy solution:  Some rogue Chozo is still alive, makes Metroids again.

They could've replaced Metroids with the X-parasite if Samus didn't destroy them all in Fusion.  However, there's still one Metroid evolution we haven't seen:  King Metroid
ANKOKU
They aren't all dead from Fusion.
All the ones from the BASE are dead from Fusion.

The X came from SR-388, which IIRC hasn't been destroyed.
The Metroids are part of what makes the series so memorable. They are scary as crap, hard to defeat, and are all around awesome. Seriously, who doesn't remember their first encounter with a Metroid? (I remember I misread the scan in Metroid Prime and thought the only way to kill it was bombs, not that bombs get the Metroids off you)
One shall stand, one shall ball.

No it doesn't and no it wasn't.
red chamber dream
i dunno, i never thought metroids were all that scary. i always laughed when in other m they'd talk about how ferocious and dangerous they are. it's like ... k. that said i do think you've got a point -- some of the most enjoyable parts of prime were the rooms in phendrana and mines with all the metroids. it'd be nice to see them again as something other than a plot device.
They are scary if you see its insides because its attached to your visor.

And I actively avoid rooms with Metroids, Chozo Ghosts, and Shadow Pirates in Metroid Prime to this very day... they left that kind of a mark on me. (I was like nine or ten when I got the game) However it is pretty hilarious watching a bunch of Space Pirates getting knocked off by a couple of Metroids.
I only minded the Metroids in the Pirate Lab when it got dark... one of the worst parts of the game imo.
But yeah, the Chozo ghosts, well they weren't scary, but when I anticipated them it kinda got me restless.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I avoid Chozo ghosts because they're fucking annoying.

One thing that pissed me off hard in Echoes, among many things that pissed me off in Echoes, was how they handled Metroids. In Prime, they were introduced fantastically, even if they did turn out to be pussies, and it always seemed like kind of a big deal when they were around. Even Corruption got it sort of right. But Echoes just kind of had them there because, you know... Metroid in the title and that. You just walk into a room and it's like... 'oh, a Metroid.' Then you keep going.

I want Metroids to be a big deal again. And I want them to be in the fucking game outside of a single boss fight and a cocktease sector.
Well haven't they just given us the perfect setup for that not happening in the next Sakamoto-made Metroid game?
Ready to internet!

I was going to mention this.

Yeah, that game should be renamed Bounty Hunter Hunters.

mp2 is very close to being Metroid without Metroids too. the guys' presence there is very negligible. they're like some of the weakest guys around if no strong Ing even bothered to possess them. i mean, even a Sporb was deemed worthy of becoming a guardian and they weren't.
their image was already fucked since mp1 so it isn't really that much of a big deal. it is like stepping into sticky bubble gum. it slows you down but you can get rid of it with ease.

Just thought of that, Uchiha.  I can't BELIEVE that there wasn't a guardian that was a Metroid.
No wonder they haven't made a game taking place after fusion.

The problem is that if they get rid of the Metroids, then why leave Metroid in the title? Of course, Nintendo should have thought about all this before they made Metroid II and have Samus wipe out all but one metroid.

Also, what kind of item would a Metroid Guardian give you?
I'd imagine something like the upgraded Grapple Lasso in Corruption where you steal the energy of enemies.

I always figured for a Metroid V they'd have Samus on the run as "the last Metroid" from what occurred in Fusion.

But none of the Guardians give you new items.

EDIT: Except for Temple Guardians. But a Metroid would have tough competition.
Nintendo can rename Metroids into something else and you have a Metroid-game without Metroids, right?
Why dont they just have some abandoned Space Pirate facility that produced Metroids, but got overrun?  Or have the Space Pirates kidnap the last of the Chozo that know the secret to the creation of Metroids?  Or have some crazy Chozo cult dedicated to the creation of Metroids?  That would make some sweet boss fights.  Or just have the data of the Metroid creators found?

problem is that both Space Pirates and Chozo are extinct by the Fusion timeframe.
also, the data of the Metroid creators was within Mother Brain and it was destroyed already.

the only sources for Metroids are Samus herself and another hidden space station from the feds. seeing how they're keeping the plan to reproduce metroids as ultra secret and there have been 2 space stations already, that looks like the best bet.
