Yeah that was the plan. I've already timed that power bomb to be faster. I just wasn't sure if this wallcrawl would truly be faster than staying in chozo in a tas setting.
Okay so... this surprised me. I know a little bit of time can be saved during the X-Ray segment, which I didn't record, just because the new route would have Boost Ball, but I don't know that it'd be enough to make the route faster.
Alright.. well there's 7 seconds saved. 2 more to go, I guess. The extra missile saves even more time though, since it can replace the missile in Triclops Pit, so really these routes are like dead even. (reuploaded)
I'm more interested now in a potential route that skips Varia Suit. I need to be able to 3 Tank VMR and collect Strength and still have ~60 energy left over for TFT.
Which video and when? Edit: ... oh. I accidentally saved over one of the video clips with a later one. I'll reupload a working video later. The timing was still accurate.
Edit: VMR stuff:
Okay so a 3 tank VMR returning from Phendrana and going to Plasma Beam has potential to make a faster route than the current TAS. If you take 10 damage/second, that means you have 30 seconds to VMR with no drops.
Here's a screenshot of the current TAS going through this section, in 30 seconds I reach the last room before the Elevator. If I collect energy drops from the boxes in Monitor Station and get a PB refill somewhere else, that's an extra 30 energy iirc. And then there are drops in Fiery Shores, I think 4 10-energy drops from boxes (it might be 5 I forget) and 20 from the Magmoor, and another 20 from the Magmoor in the room before the Elevator. So that's 110 or something from drops, which should barely be enough to still clear Twin Fires Tunnel (which takes about 60 energy) (room before the elevator takes just under 50 I believe). I think it should be possible to do with optimization and perfect drops. It might even be worth killing a puffer or something in Monitor Station too. I'm sure there's a way to make it work.
Here's the progress I made last night on a TAS version of the Impact Crater SW:
I use closing the door on the Metroid to cancel it's "I just got bombed" animation, which saves a fair bit of time. Also I used the Metroid's attack to push me out of bounds, by transitioning rooms right before it latched onto me in order to cancel it's attack and make it just float into me.
I have an idea of using a bomb and BSJ to leave the Door Open Trigger, rather then boosting away from it, This would allow for an instant unmorph (to shoot and open the door again sooner) and possibly close the door even sooner too, since the top of the trigger is closer to the door than the side.
