This topic makes the whole thing make so much more sense to me.

If you think that samus's character was ruined by the scene, you need to read this. It delves deep withing Metroid canon and provides a logical explanation for the scene.
Thread title:
One shall stand, one shall ball.
That is a massive wall of stupid and you should feel bad about posting it.

The post mentions "badass defensive mode."  Surely she would have had the same reaction with Ridley threatening Anthony (whom she had known for a lot longer, by the way)?  A much better way to handle it would have been to have Samus see Ridley and then get royally pissed off.  She realizes that he's responsible for the deaths of anyone and anything she's ever cared about, and she's not happy about it.  Not the "freeze up and be useless" not happy, the "kill him with fire" not happy.  So why didn't they skip the crybaby part and go straight into unstoppable rage with a side of Plasma Beam?

@Turt
She doesn't have the Mother-Baby bond with Anthony.
every character trait given to Samus in Other M is in some way hugely irritating to me.
...I just gotta say, this is an opportunity for people to make fun of you horribly. They HATE this scene.

No, but she clearly cares about him.

Ehh, not worth arguing over.

Simply put, would you throw yourself in front of a bullet for ANYONE you, even only slightly, care for?
Samus... didn't.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Let's talk more about this terrible scene that has been talked about to death, this is a good idea and will surely lead to new ideas and perceptions of it and certainly not more of the same. Why, just the other day I was thinking that Samus actually was traveling to the past to relieve the events of Other M and feaked out at the sight of Ridley because she knew he was going to kill everything again and she could not handle this and ptsd'd the hell out because oh god not again, he's going to kill us all, help oh help save me useless canon fodder! Oh ok thanks you're a bro and a nice guy and I like you quite a lot! This is the only possible canon explanation because the manga said so and also my heart, the end.

Tbob: Sarcasm Incarnate.
I honestly hope that fraroc realized that all he is going to get is sarcasm at this point.
Read the article, its interesting and actually sheds some positive light on that scene.

It is poorly thought out and sheds no light on anything except how stupid the attempted justifications for this scene are.

Intentional or not, this spelling error is fittingly hilarious.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely

I read it and it was bad. It is based entirely on assumptions that are themselves based solely on the desire to justify the scene in question. Arbitrarily deciding which time Ridley explodes actually counts as him dying doesn't help anything.
