It's the jump buton. Or the button you'd normally use to equip/unequip your suit upgrades. And it is done simultaneously.

OK - quietus says it's item-cancel (does that mean item-cancel in game or on the subscreen?), the site says it's the fire button, and now you say it's jump.  LOL, I'll just try them all.

Item cancel in gameplay just to get rid of any items selected before going ahead with the glitch.

I'll test it out. The fire button and jump may just both work anyway. but I'll edit my post in a sec.

Make sure it's charge, ice, wave and spazer equiped and not plasma. leave plsma unequiped. move over to boots section, any one will do and do the glitch. Hold the fire button again until gameplay resumes. don't leave fire un pressed while it returns to game as that will cause teh game to crash/black out. Also I think having an item like power bomb equiped also crashed the game after testing but I'll test again. Again unequip it regardless.

lol no way
Lol I bet it's just like A and not jump or fire or anything set in the button setup, why would it matter anyway though. If there's a button you press that equips or unequips an upgrade, then press that one. The whole item-cancel thing was just him telling you not to have power bombs equipped - you know, eliminating unnecessary variables to your equation. Hold a charge and pause it until the charging sound ends so you can release all the buttons without shooting, then calmly go to the equipment screen. The only thing that really matters is that you fire a charged shot and not a regular shot, hence charging before activating the glitch (cause regular shots don't hurt bosses I imagine).
I dunno, I never really tried to use murder beam on a run or anything, but it never seemed very difficult to activate it to me, it was only ever hard for me to get it in the right location and such.

Once you get all beams to equip in the inventory and you unpause just remember to hold fire again immediately until gameplay resumes.

Yep definately cancel items as this crashes the game. Quietus said this to avoid this happening.

You can actually have x ray scope equiped and it doesn't crash the game but power bombs seem to do. Strange. Of course the other items are there own weapens so they would prevent the glitch from working by default anyway.
Does it matter what beams you have equipped when you initially charge your gun before going into the subscreen?
Nope, at least it shouldn't do. But have Charge, ice, wave and spazer equiped so that when you press left on the boots it switches to plasma which is what you need for the glitch to work

I just did it using the JUMP button, worked on my first try.  Strangely, it didn't seem to make the Ridley fight go any smoother.  I saw that his tail was on fire and all, but I still had to use all of my supers/missiles and reserve tanks.  (I'm playing hard-mode gamma)

Does it matter where you are when you actually activate the beam?  I've heard that you are supposed to have your arm cannon aimed right at mother brain's head when it's on the floor, but this glitch really just seems to affect the whole screen regardless of where you 'aim' when you activate it.
Yeah it's not really beneficial against ridley. Just some snazzy effects but it could help the fight for some.

With Mother brain yeah aim right at her head point blank (aiming left obviously) This causes the murder beam to stick to her head the whole fight dealing constant damage. If you wait until later in the fight to do murder beam then you have to do a series of 3 murder beams across the floor in order to cover enough damage space in the room to do constant damage. Hotarubi did that on his 0:32 run.

I apologise if it wasn't clear in my post, Opium, but as ajbolt said, Item Cancel was solely pressed to remove your selection of the Power Bombs. aiwebs_004

I've been following the GT code since it has been found and it just leads me to one interesting question... Will this forever change runs of hacks as well?

...And this code also works with bomb Torizo if place it in Norfair.

OK, if that's the case then I think that answers the question I was about to ask, which was whether or not it is the Torizos themselves that set off the code, or if it is that one specific room.

The first one. This code is somewhere in Torizo initiation AI, so he
is so kind for doing so =) I should say, placing any Torizo in any
room in Norfair allows to perform the Golden Torizo code in it.
Has anyone ever heard of anyone managing to glitch their way into the Tourian elevator using the space-time beam without defeating the bosses?  I managed to do it several times, did I just discover something new?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I'm sure I've heard it mentioned before, but it's still cool.
That's strange, i don't remember hearing this before. I remember that there's a way to use the space time glitch to make the planet explode, but don't remember anything about getting to Torian using the space time glitch. How do you do it? Any .smv?

Is this on console or in an emulator?  I believe space-time beam works differently on both.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  It's especially picky about where you stand, and sometimes you have to exit morphball at a certain time and sometimes you don't.  it does NOT work with charging up and then firing a missile or anything like that, just bomb spread.  I haven't done extensive testing yet, and it may be triggered by another space-time glitch that I used earlier in all the files where I got it to work.  This is all done in snes9x v1.52.  I guess I could confirm if it works on the wii console, but it would take forever.  Almost any screwup winds up getting you trapped on the elevator or in the previous room.

I have an smv, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to post it here.  I don't see an "attach" button or anything like that.  I'm bad at foruming.
the paperclip.

you probably have to register.
yeah, you have to register.  Sorry about that, that last post was meant to go with this video.

And on second thought, I did bother to try it on the wii and it works.  There doesn't seem to be any prerequisite space-time glitch like I mentioned in the last post.  I think it just depends on whether or not you're standing in the exact right spot.  Too far to the right will get you trapped in an infinite loop between the top and bottom of the elevator, and too far right will do any number of nasty things that all eventually get you trapped in the previous room in some way or other.  I've actually managed to go down the elevator in morphball in one case, I'll see if I can find the savestate for that.

sorry, too far left will get you trapped in the other room.

Is the theory here that we collect Spazer, Plasma, and the Speed Booster (for the beam glitch), and then head straight for Tourian?  If so, I'm guessing Morph > Missiles > Bombs > Supers > Spazer > Kraid > Varia > Speed Booster > Ice > Power Bombs > Phantoon > Gravity Suit > Draygon > Plasma > Tourian.  That, and a few expansions en route to smash MB's glass.  And perhaps Wave, for a quicker Phantoon fight?

TMFT, the pencil at the top of your posts lets you edit them.
riiiight...I'm bad at foruming.

I think what Quietus is suggesting will work, but the speed booster won't be necessary in any case since all advantages it can provide are also provided by the x-ray scope, ice beam, and mockball.  I don't know what beam glitch you're referring to, I've never heard of it.  The real problem is the plasma beam.  If I go and kill draygon, I'll need either the x-ray scope plus wave beam plus some extra power bombs or the gravity suit to get out.  Fighting Kraid will also allow me to hold less energy tanks when fighting MB, but that's yet another boss you have to fight.  I guess I'm torn between low % and low number of bosses fought.  I guess I could even skip Draygon by using the x-ray climb, but that can also be used in the statue room, making this whole glitch obsolete if I use it (although this wouldn't be a TAS, so it might count for something).  Does anyone have any better ideas?  I don't think wave beam will ever really be necessary, I can easily kill Phantoon with a single supermissile pack.  I'm not going for time here, just low %/bosses.

By the way, how much firepower do I need to kill MB's first stage?  I've heard different numbers from different sources and I'm wondering if I can get it down to 4 missile/supermissile tanks total.  Keeping in mind that while it is possible to reset all the metroids with space-time, thus providing infinite chances at getting that one last super missile back from your last kill, it's also impossible to return to the start and refuel or return from MB to the metroid rooms without resetting everything as well.  If I can get just 4 ammo tanks (plus 1 PB), I think I can get this run down to 14%, or maybe even 13%, I'm not sure yet.  Does the murder beam or anything that doesn't take ammo work on the first stage?  That would be really helpful.

and here's the morphball-elevator if anyone's interested.  This was when I originally discovered the glitch, but I never got this to reoccur.

My mentioning of the Speed Booster was based on the understanding that it was required to equip Spazer and Plasma at the same time, which is required for the beam glitches..? Think

Since it isn't a TAS, x-ray climbing is pretty much out.

I haven't watched anything yet, but if you really want low bosses you could use the debug button code and get away with only 2 torizos and kraid.
Yeah, I guess I'd need something under boots, but it doesn't have to be the speed booster, it could be hi-jump or space-jump.  As for using the x-ray climb in a non-TAS, it is entirely possible although tricky and sometimes tedious, but hey, I've got savestates.  I'm trying to figure out how to use it to get the plasma beam, but so far it hasn't been working in that particular respect.  And for low bosses, this glitch should allow me to skip kraid & the GT (even if I do have to fight draygon as  result), so there's really no reason I'd do that.  I guess I could skip kraid and just run like hell through norfair with a bunch of E-tanks, but that just doesn't sound like as much fun.  I guess I could do that and go for avoiding all of the main 4 bosses, but I'm not sure why I would.

As is, it looks like this run will require 17% minimum: morphball and bombs, all beams except wave, boot upgrade (probably hi-jump to get through Maridia without gravity suit), X-ray, 1 missile, 3 SMs, and 1 PB, Varia, and 3 E-tanks.  Once again, any ideas on how to get this any lower would be greatly appreciated.  In particular, I would love to find some way of avoiding power bombs, assuming I can in fact skip Draygon.  I read somewhere that it's possible to get through Tourian with only 5 missiles and 15 SMs or 10 missiles and 10 SMs, I'm not sure if this works or not but I guess I'll try.
