Ok, so I've got a couple of miniature hacks in the works, two of them finished, but none of them merit their own thread, especially because there will be quite a few by the time I'm done. I'm making these because I'm really to busy to do an involved hack at the moment, I just need something to do when I have a couple of minutes free time.

The first is a boss rush hack. I remembered someone asking about one a while ago, but I could never find one, so I made one. There aren't really any major puzzles or skill requirements; however, there are a couple of times where you'll have to go through a couple of doors because I was having trouble placing the refills and expansions in some of the rooms before the boss. I hope you all enjoy it. For lack of a better name, its been called Super Metroid: Boss

Playground is finished. Ips is uploaded. Fun shall commence. For information on Playground, check page 4 of this thread.

edit: playground IPS updated.
Current Mini Project Arrow ???

The ips files that I post in this thread will all use the same rom (AKA Super Metroid (JU) [!] unheadered)

God dammit. -goes on a rom hunt-
Didn't you save a copy of the one you used for Puddin? I suggest you save a couple copies of it this time. I make hacks a lot it seems.
Completed, clear time 00:20, 48% items.

What's the most items you can get?

I'm an idiot.
Max is 50%

Another thing to note is that if you're quick enough during the escape sequence, you can go fight MB again, and again, and again... For some reason her eye beam resets the timer.

If any of you have suggestions about item placement/order, let me know, I was just going by what I thought would work well for that particular boss.

laugh new just keep the zip file, or a couple spare copies, I promise that unless my computer crashes again, I'll always use the same rom for my patches.

I regret to inform you that I never had any puddin'  Embarassed
Since this rom was diff than gravy (or some I'm told) I would have to search regardless. And yeah, copies copies copies. Arnold clones. Eaugh!!
Almost happy

Item% 48.

So you have once again hidden X-ray I presume, and maybe another missile...

This was fun, I especially liked

the Super Maroid World style Congratulations after MB and croc was the biggest surprise eva.
Well, one of the items is the x-ray, and the other is the grapple, but quite truthfully, they're in plain sight. I just added them in to make the end % and nice even 50.

About the part you liked:
that congrats took a bit to fit, but once it did, I was just as surprised as most people would be when it started flashing. Also, Crocomire almost didn't make it into the game because of his entrance door being a ceiling door, and there was no good place to have him in between Kraid and Phantoon.

Has anyone saved the animals yet? If you do, you're in for a trip.

So will I, sometime (busy atm).

Got 50% in 00:16. I managed to 2-round phantoon =D. You should make the zebetites vurnerable to the hyper beam, so you can save the animals =/
Crap! i had just started my boss rush hack too...beaten to the punch :x

Won't the missile recharge station work?

Make a hard version boss rush, that could be interesting.

You are frickin' prolific. Keep up the good work.

I can't save the animals :(
I liked playing this by the way, I'd very much like to see more minihacks like this. :P

Hrmm, these look interesting, but extensive searching has not turned up that kind of ROM. I'm at ducknerd@gmail.com, could someone possibly send me a copy? I hope this isn't toeing the line too much on the "no ROM requests" rule.
Done!

Animals saved, I only had to travel through Kraid´s lair to enter Crateria again. Thanks to this weird Japanese version rom of mine, I could not tell how much time I had left because the numbers were all screwed up  :D

This was nice, ought to be a good tool to practice some of the boss fights. I also hope that someone will make the hard boss attack hack, that would be sweet too. Yay for (good) mini-hacks in general !
There shouldn't be any problem saving the animals, because A: missle recharge does work and B: You don't even need to go as far as MB to return to crateria.

I'm pretty sure that the timer gets messed up no matter what rom you use, simply because boss rooms such as kraid's have graphics that just mess up the timer.

One of the minis I'm working on was a harder version of this, but I fully welcome Bolognab to do it instead, seeing as his "Confinement" was fantastic. Besides, that'll give me more time to work on SM:Playground, which I think a lot of you will really like if it ends up working the way I want it to.
:20, 48%

-The fact that sometimes you have to go back into a door you just exited to get to the next boss can confuse the player the first time and arificially add time to a run. It'd be better if the doors were logically connected. Same with the save point room thats still accessable in Brinstar
-Why is Crocomire in the escape? It isn't really a proper CV-style boss rush if they aren't in order.

Also, Phantoon seemed easier than normal despite the fact that I had less e-tanks than I normally have when I fight him. Ridley also seemed easier for some reason as well - I only took 2 e-tanks worth of damage against him. Then again, I haven't played the regular version of SM for awhile.

Oh, also, most people have the headered version of the SM rom - and most other hacks work with the headered version (with the exception of Redesign having both an headered and unheadered patch.) It might be less confusing for people trying to patch the rom if you used a headered version to make your hacks.

That isn't because of your rom, that's because of the Crocomire fight in the escape. Bosses during the escape destroy the timer graphics.
Thanks for the info. I thought it was because of my rom since everything else (texts) looks kinda screwed up too. Well not "screwed up" but weird  :)

Oh well, the escape is more fun when you don´t know how much time you have left.

He said that he had problems to get crocmire in at all, because of his celling door. Though he could have been put in after kraid by making the door after varie get you to the pre-minikraid room, there is such a door there.
But anyway it was more fun to have croc there, first when you see him it's a big surprise and then you think OMG gotta hurry, but then you hit him once and he dies. I though that was funny.

I understand the door problems, but the way I have worked out for all the refills and expansions better than the other two sequences that I tried.

As I already said, Croco fit better into the escpae than he did between Kraid and Phantoon, especially since I had planned to use Kraid's stretch as part of the "save the animals routine"

I didn't change any boss statistics at all. Phantoon might seem easier because you didn't have the ice beam. The ice beam only allows you to hit him with one fully charged shot, whereas with just wave/spazer, you can get in 2 shots and a couple of missles. Ridley... theres no reason he should be easier.

SMILE can be used to add or remove a header, and the unheadered version is the one I have been using for a while.

The escape is even more fun when you're testing rooms to make sure they work, and midway through walking through brinstar, the world blows up. I nearly shit myself. I coulda sworn I still had a claw and some teeth to go before the timer went off...
