I would do a speed run of this game, but whenever I try to do a speedrun I suck at it, and whenever I'm not trying to do a speed run I'm a little bit better... But I don't think I have what it takes to beat the record. Rolling Eyes

48 SS on PAL, suckness to be honest.

With your skills I know you're capable of a lot more than that, believe me.

YEah of course i can improve my SS times if i working very much. But i don,t see any reason try beat SS runs very fast. It is very stressful job try made perfect SS runs. Game is not very fun if you try incredible speed without dying. This requires lot luck and many days.  :|

SS 0:40. I am so slow, this game just kicks my butt cause i am way too unconservative and then end up running around looking for extra health when i should have just picked up more on my way through rooms. I should just stick with prime.

Totally amazing job Craztad.  Wink

This is news to me you have very good Super Metroid skills too. aiwebs_016
I need 44 minutes SS run it looks lot like you. PAL versio is almost 4 minutes slower.  If i can get 44 SS it is pretty darn good one for me. Wink
Well, I am back playing this game and I thought I would give speedrunning another go.

After few tries, I managed to break my record and, at last, obtained the time of 00:40 in a SS run. Unfortunately I did not record my attempt, but it is not very beautiful to watch after all  =)

4ET 30M 15SM 5PB

- Missed the ice beam gate hater
- Wrecked ship break-in with super missile -technique. This has become my specialty, I can now do it about 90% of the time. I think that is quite weird, but oh well...
- Phantoon 4 fast rounds
- Missed WS upper room shinespark and gravity shine
- Draygon 3R
- Missed pillar shine and kago room speedmockball
- Everything else worked out alright I guess, didnt have to waste time refilling energy or missiles

Still made a lot of mistakes, but my general speed is getting better and bosses get humiliated quite well from time to time. Hope to break the 40 barrier in a couple of weeks if I just have the time to play.

Well, I started my run again, and got 45:3x on Ceres.

But that's not good enough. Since it's segmented, I should be able to beat Hotarubi's time, but I just can't...

The only way I know is to somehow get a damage boost from the very first steam shoot in the second-to-last room. But it shooting at the right time is very rare, and it only happens when I play badly in the previous rooms. >_<

Has anyone here ever gotten 46? If so, I could use some pointers...
Lance^
sounds already like a sub40 run to me. You do newer things than what I do/did, plus Drygon 3R is awesome; my guess is you just need to watch out for the little blunders in your path ;).

btw, is everyone hyped with SS? If that's the case then this thing is getting veryyy interesting, again..
Thanks for the tips Smokey. Usually my runs fail at boss fights, expecially Phantoon. If not those, I miss speed tricks or refill too much, so there are plenty of possible obstacles. If I had one run with all the pieces together, I think 38 is a realistic goal for me at the moment. Maybe now I will keep on practicing since my other project is finished.

Maybe I just want to, but I interpret your post in a way that you would do some speedrunning too? I would love to see some fresh gameplay from you, because you are one of the great legends I know. And yeah, SS has been the word of the day for quite some time now.

Sigh, I'm really rusty with this game nowdays, TASing makes horrible things your reflexes...

I tried one SS run a week ago and one today, 00:45 on both. I'm fairly successfull in all the major tricks and I still keep a almost perfect item route (aside from the speedbooster missile and the E-tank after Botwoon) but my avrege speed is terrible nowdays, making small misstakes in every single room. I'll se if I'm going to pick this up seriously again in which case my goals will be 00:39 SS and 00:37 Segmented (on PAL of course, on NTSC that's already done).
Dude.

Don't get the etank past botwoon or the missile pack near speed boost, it'll save you I think 10-20 seconds to be able to just run in those 2 places.
Almost happy
I only do that in SS runs, and I only do it now, not when I was "good". The extra missile tank grants me in 8/10 times a faster draygon fight since I do not do shinespark damage on him in SS runs. And the extra E-tank just simply helps me to survive. And BWT, I don't think I loose 10 seconds, and certanly not 20. If you take in count that I usually get draygon one round faster and can take a more risky path in LN (run through the lava before ridley and shinespark) I hardly loose time at all. In a segmented run though the 2 items are worthless.

Getting the Missile right before Speed Booster takes only a second, not more. It's so tiny that I would definitely collect it in a SS, as it most likely will get this time back on Bosses later, and is just a more safer way to beat the game without running out of Missiles at the MB glass cage for example (which would mean to restart the run).

However the Botwoon Tank wastes around 5, at most 10 sec. By using a PB to kill the jumping thingies before getting it gives you 4 refills which might speed up the later progress a bit though. If the speedrunner is good and won't get any troubles with one less Tank at LN and Ridley, it should of course be skipped.

Cpadolf:
It's known that too much TASing might get your realtime skills a bit rusty. Thats why you should occasionally have a break and try a SS once in a while, to hold your level.
Every Bit Counts
Yeah. After a day or 2 of TASing, realtime play looks insane to do.

Which is why I skip it in segmented runs (and in SS runs when I was really trained). If I skip it today and do LN the fast way I would estimate my chance of survival to be <50%, and not getting it and playing LN safer is no faster then doing the opposite.

oh I see. If you do a segmented game soon you might just get that :38 right off. I think segmented runs help a lot in a way to get better at the game. Before I did those sub40 SS runs I used to do a bunch of segmented games. Doing a million of restarts in every segment until I got the best one became sort of a training for SS; and I realized that when my SS where getting better. As for me returning to Super, I'd like to but I always keep saying I will but I do nothing. No more than a week ago my personal best was :35 SS on the console (doing a few Hotarubi's tricks and some of the easiest enemey boosts) but if I don't find the amount of time like I had 3-4 years ago I guess I will never get past that time.

You could always try 100%. As far as I know, there isn't any progress being made on one.

:55 shouldn't be very difficult to beat, actually, because of:

-The new route
-New tricks discovered/New boss strategies (a lot of time can be saved in just boss fights)

Also, Scarlet did mockballs and shinesparks in places where they were actually slower.
Every Bit Counts
What new route?

AHEM

And Hotarubi's route isn't quite optimal.
coral to complement blue
Oh, sorry, I didn't know if you were still working on it or not...

What's wrong with Hotarubi's route?
Just some inefficiecies in the order he chooses for collecting items.

For one, after WS, it's better to go to Maridia through green/pink Brinstar, collecting the items there then, instead of on the way to MB or whenever it is he collects them (haven't watched the .smv in a long time, and on the way to MB is the only halfway-feasible time besides after WS).  More Supers at Ridley means a faster Ridley fight.

The above modification also allows for going straight up red Brinstar after LN, which is a very speedy climb with the SA, and SA also speeds up the red Brinstar giant sidehopper PBs.

One more improvement is with the landing site PBs/Gauntlet items.  It's faster to grab the PBs on the way to WS (especially since, with lucky refills, this can allow for skipping a ship recharge), then on the way to MB from red Brinstaruse the shot warp trick to open the Gauntlet door from the wrong side of the room,do a stutter short charge on the landmass level with the Gauntlet entrance, and spark straight through the first room.  Hotarubi's route requires an extra backtrack to the Landing Site area for those items.

Best time single segment: 0.46 (PAL-versio)

-My new record is one minutes faster than my previous and minutes slower than my segmented run
-6et, 45m 20sm, 1rt, 5pb (33% collection items

- am very happy my boss fights
+Torizo hotarubi style
+Kraid quick kill
+Phantoon fast 4 round (good eye open manipulations)
+Avarage botwoon Smokey style (6-7 round)
+Draygon is done very well
+Ok Ridley
+Good MB, but No murder beam

+No major mistakes. Most trick is managed here.
+I manage gate hater & lot enemy boost.

Bad spots:
-I miss once mock ball before Super missiles
-I need one more SM refill this cost 5 seconds
-I freeze ripper wrong place cost me almost 7 seconds
-Norfair downstair was overall bad area my run, there is possible improve almost 30 seconds, i think.
ADD: 30+20 seconds when i get that energy tank before ridley, i really need that, because i have only one energy tank my energys left. It is near impossible beat Rildey W/O energy tanks.
-I miss barrier glitch once. i get out room and i back. Cost me 8-10 seconds.

Still this run is very well done, good enought right now. It is hard time try improve this one. There is amazing boss fights. Example good Phantoon fight save alot time.
Hello folks!

My best time was 1:23 with 100%
Well, I've been using lots of tricks from Scarlet and others. I think the best trick was the "Murder Beam" which I used to kill Ridley and Mother Brain. But the method I want to use is to go to Maridia without the Grampling Beam and get Spring Ball without it. Y'know, that method you go through the walls...

Well, I hope someone discuss this with me.

See ya
newest fast time/low % for me is 49 minutes with 28%. I easily could've gotten 24%, but got lazy/greedy in the end. plz not i have nowhere near the skill t0 do a 15%, so 28 is good for me. My usual is somewhere around 40
