Though hotarubis 00:32 was also very probably a high one since he was so certain that 00:31 was not possible.

In any case I actually see it less likely that we will see a 00:30 segmented run.

But of course with all the tricks you list and very good overall play it is possible to get 00:30 (I think) it's just so close to impossible to do them all in one run plus screwing up very little overall.

(Oh I have a feeling I will be proven so utterly wrong someday)

There is one thing what i don,t understand. Why Hotarubi save animals?. This took almost 20 seconds game time.

I agree too 30.xx minutes is lowest human possible with NTSC versio, but it is so hard. Torizo skip doesn,t work here, but fast 2 round Phantoon battle can save 45-60 seconds. Hotarubi Phantoon was pretty slow 3 round, but well that was still great SS run battle. Phantoon is extremely random.

Hotarubi saved the animals because he was 100% sure 00:31 was impossible to get with all the mistakes he made, he already had a recorded 00:32 so his goal was either 00:31 or 00:32 with saving the animals.
With my overall play style i think i could possibly bea the record, but i'm terrible at bosses (phantoon and botwoon mainly) and i don't have the motivation to work on them, especially phantoon.  I hate trying to perfect the wave beam combo.
yeah

I could probably beat the record too, if it wasn't for my SNES control pad being so loose (loose as in I almost always press diagonally while walljumping, much like the classic controller). I still wonder if the GC control pad is tighter...

The gamecube controller ought to be harder to play on since the D-pad is really really small, in pretty much every game that uses it on GC I have problem not to press two directions at once.
I recently decided to play through this game to see if I've gotten any better (though I used saves)... I got 49 minutes, which I admit is a kind of sorry excuse for a run, but two or three weeks ago when I started I got around 1:30 - 2:00.
yeah

Is the classic controller any better? My SNES controller is very unstable and about half the time I accidentally press 2 directions at once while walljumping. I'm still not sure if it was made that way or if it's really old. I probably wouldn't define it as "wobbly" though, since it is held in place about as well as a newer N64 dpad.
I tried this game again yesterday and got 44 minutes that time. I think I could shave off about 5 minutes just by fixing a few basic things that I'm not doing quite right like boss fights (I can't even kill Kraid so quickly).

BEst time natural route: 0.59 (PAL versio)

-13-segments
-34% items
-I decide try how fast i can beat game with natural route W/O sbreaks.

RULES:
-I don,t allow any major room skips. I complete all rooms what you normally need your game. Example: i don,t allow wall jump shortcuts before speedbooster room, because this break game boundary and skip couple rooms
-My items order is natural
-No early expansions

I ALLOW:
-I allow all boss tricks example kraid quick kill, barrier glitch, MB murder beam and etc....

-I allow all in room speedtrick. Example wall jumps, shine sparks & morph ball jumps

My natural item order was:

1: MORPH BALL
2: MISSILE
3: BOMB
4: SUPER MISSILE (SPORE SPAWN)
5: CHARGE BEAM
6: HI JUMPS
7: VARIA SUIT
8: SPEED BOOSTERS
9: ICE BEAM
10 SPAZER
11 PB (RED BRINSTAR)
12 GRAPPLE BEAM
13 WAVE BEAM
14 GRAVITY SUIT
15 SPACE JUMP
16 PLASAMA BEAM
17 SCREW ATTACK

I just have one question to you speedrunners: Have you ever had the same problems I do with diagonals on the SNES controller? If so, how do you overcome it?
yeah
Quote from BlueGlass:
no.

I guess that means my controller is just old. I gotta get a new one. :)

Edit: Oh wait, you said that you do better with a wobbly controller, right? I guess that means I need more answers. Sorry guys. Question still open. ;)
yeah
Sorry for the double post, but I think I edited my post a little too late.  Embarassed

I just remembered that Blueglass does better with a wobbly controller. So the question is still open. I need as many answers as I can get.

Edited this post to remove the paranoia.  laugh new
You could always delete your last post, then repost it with an edit (though not anymore, obviously).

And yeah, strangely enough, I don't have a diagonals problem with a wobbly dpab, but do with new dpads.

EDIT:  And it's best to be a bit patient for answers.
yeah

No not in particular, I had some problems at first but quickly got over it. Now I would say that I screw up because of this less then 1/100 of the time.
yeah

I seem to be getting over it slowly. It still happens occasionally, but I haven't had many diagonal problems lately.

Gimme a "w"!
Gimme a "0"!
Gimme another "0"!
Gimme a "t"!
Put it all together and what does it spell?

w00t!

I should really make a sig out of that... aiwebs_008

Edit: Deleted and reposted with an edit.  :P  I just watched the first part of Smokey's 0:36, and I was surprised to find out that I'm faster than him! My skill level is probably somewhere between smokey and scarlet (faster than smokey but slower than Scarlet). I'd say I'll have the 0:32 barrier broken with a bit more practice. :P
ok, quick question. why is it that in all the speed runs of SM that I've seen, noone does the charge combo for wave beam on phantoon? It nearly kills him, and would save a ton of time. I guess it is kinda unreliable because of the kinda random AI, (I've only managed once in the last year) but wouldn't save states or TASing fix that? just wondering
Every Bit Counts
There is a difference between non-TAS/realtime/consle play. TAS's don't use it because there is a way to 1 round him, and you need to have really good amo managemet. Realtime without savestates, I'm not sure, there might be a faster way, or it's a new trick.
thanks, i was just wondering because it seems like it would be the fastest way. one wave combo, a missle and a super does the trick i think. it may have been two missles... and i've never TASed before, so i have no basis for an argument. just an idea im putting out there.
More like... 1 wave beam combo + 13 missiles + 1 super missile

48 SS (PAL-versio)

-No my best, my current best SS time is 47 and segmented 45 minutes.

-This run includes very little amount mistakes, i think my previous minutes faster SS run includes more mistakes than this run.
-My avarage speed is drop little bit after summer.
-But anyway. Still very nice run, i get too much items just like last time. 6 et +RT and 55 missile max  took little bit too much time to get.

-Two major mistakes.
1-kraid quick kill miss. This not surprised i never managed that with SS runs. This is very presice and random trick.

2-Sand (little Draygon room) room in maridia, i miss space jump. And i stuck in sand pool, took me 15 seconds too much time

Many little things workin very well and i have good boss fights. Wink
yeah

48 SS on PAL, suckness to be honest.

With your skills I know you're capable of a lot more than that, believe me. :P You aren't the unofficial record holder of ZM normal 9% for no reason.

I'd like to improve my 42 SS some day that I did on PAL, it's just that... It's so hard.
