About the Gray Voice and Old Bird stuff: Samus was injected with Gray Voice's blood or something to prevent her dying in Zebes's harsh environment. After finding this info out, Samus considered Gray Voice as her father, because they shared the same blood.

Oh, and one thing pokes me at the manga: It shows Samus wasting Kraid and Ridley, so that means it also contained most of ZM story, instead of being just an prologue to it.
The manga showed most of the original Metroid, but I didn't really take that part seriously.

One thing about the manga and this that I don't understand is that Samus wasn't under Adam's command directly in the manga.
Well, a lot of things in the Manga don't make sense. Like how a black hole sucks away a force field.

Don't criticize Space Pirate technology! Don't you know how many "subjects" were lost in the testing of that machine?!

Also, it was DNA modification, not blood transfusion:

It's the Metroid Vaccine that was purely blood.
Samus was not scared. She was simply shocked. You gotta remember, She fought him 5 times before the bottle ship mission. Samus must have thought that the final confrontation in Zebes was enough to do him in for good. A large time frame goes through Super and Other M. Samus belived the metroids, the pirates and of course Ridley, have fallen for good. And now to see him resurrected left Samus so shocked into terror.
I figured out the reason why Samus got all emotional in Other M. The Baby Metroid. Think about it. If a bunch of baby metroids could make a robot gain emotions, one could easily give Samus emotions.
Isn't that whole part a metaphor for Samus anyway?
I like turtles.
I have an alternate theory: Samus was on her period during the events of this game.
Yeah...no

One thing I was just thinking about a few minutes ago relates to this. Fans are getting upset because Samus formed such a strong bond with the larva so quickly, right? Didn't WE as fans do a similar thing just from playing Super in the first place? Isn't that part of the reason why the final battle with Mother Brain is so memorable after all these years?

So why is it OK for the fans to have a connection with the larva, but not Samus herself?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I didn't.

One shall stand, one shall ball.
Also Samus seemed pretty ok with handing the metroid over to the Feds at the beginning of Super, kinda weird that all of a sudden she's going all postpartum.

Honestly, if they just scaled back the whole THE BABY! thing a bit people wouldn't be bothered by it. It's just so over the top.
Well, obviously there's people who didn't feel anything about the larva when playing Super. It was my thought that a good majority of players did though based on what I've seen over the years, which is why I said it. And yeah, I've seen that argument about the beginning of Super as well and I can't think of any response to that which makes a lot of sense within the context of Other M.

But hey, even I'll admit that the story isn't fail-proof. But then I'm not as bothered by the whole thing with Samus and the larva when it seems (again) that pretty much everyone else was.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I do think a lot of people did for some kind of attachment to the metroid, but I also believe that for the most part it's because they played Super Metroid when they were like eight or something. Kids do things like that. I didn't play it until high school which may have made a difference.
I don't think the attachment to the Baby Metroid happened until the end of Super, like Samus in-game.  At the start, it was for a paycheck/research.  At the end, it saved her life.

i think the excessive mention of "the baby" actually ruined that plot point for me. i was cool with what happened in super but other m makes those events into an annoyance with the whole babybabybabybaby. you either want it to be alive and with samus or to not have even existed (but then, the series would have stopped at M2 if that baby didn't exist)
Yeah. The baby saved her life and in addition to giving her the Hyper Beam, it gave her an overly emotional personality and a crappy voice actor.

in the final cutscene of the game (the first ending, haven't gotten the second ending yet) i started to actually like samus's voice actor. it would have fit had they given samus more of an unhuman personality which i thought would have suited her better ... i mean she's not exactly around other humans very often. but then they made her whiny and shit so the monotone didn't end up working at all.

Yeah, Samus was raised by birds, so shouldn't she chirp and flap her arms a lot, and talk like a parrot?

I was attached to the baby Metroid. Baby Metroids are sooooooooo cute. <3

One guess I'd like to make:  They didn't have her do more than 1 take of any line in this entire game.  If NOA had actually edited the script, a lot of this stuff gets resolved.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Nic Cage would sound bland reading that script. Bad writing will make every actor terrible.
red chamber dream
when does nic cage not sound bland when reading scripts?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
He's the most entertaining anything ever. But in this case it'd be the bad kind of bland as opposed to the Nic Cage style that is hilarious.

i can't help but think he'd manage to make other m better anyway. i mean he's mother fucking nic cage. hard to go wrong there.
Nic Cage has one face for both angry, scared and sad. He can't move his face for other emotions.

yes, both those three things
