Almost happy
If only I had the patience to do something like that, great great work lance. How often did you use slowdowns and to what extent?

Added to the giant post. Thank you!

Cpadolf: I tried to refrain from using slowdown as much as possible, but I had to use it with Draygon and a little with Ridley. Also there are a few parts that I just couldnt get right no matter what so I took the easy way out and slowed down a little. Slowdown does not have as much use when there is no re-records involved. Draygon fight is the prime example: No matter what I did and at what speed, those green shots still hit me too much all the time. Still, it did save a lot of my nerves in some cases.

I am still very impressed, I admit that I did not ecxpect anyone to complete this hack without savestates. Still I knew it was possible of course just that noone would have the patience and percistance to actually do it. If I tried I would most likely come down to the morphball maze and then go insane and stop playing...

Holy shit. Lance, you are crazy good.
Simply incredible, Lance!

A few notes in this run that I think should be mentioned:

- In Red Brinstar Shaft, 2nd time you walljump to the top room, you kill the Rippers with Super Missiles, althought you already had Power Bombs. Laying a PB in the centre would kill them all in one turn, saving you ammo and time.

- I'm not sure if you knew about it, but after getting the morphball maze Super Missile, you could exit the maze through the top right hole by using a PB to get access to it. It's shouldn't be necessary faster, but definitely easier.

Other than that this is huge acomplishment I didn't expect to be possible that soon. Your boss strategies are awesome and show great and safe techniques to handle them in in this savestateless mode. I especially liked the Draygon and Phantoon one, which both were really solid and relatively quick done. The morphball maze was of course crazy too.

All in all I think your performance in this mode is so rare and special that it deserves a special note in the main post. Congrats!
Saturn:
I think Lance clearly noted this run doesn't in any way aim for fast time? So all kinds of timesaving tricks (pointing them out) is rather useless, no offence or anything.

Lance:
That's one of the sickest performances with Super Metroid I've ever seen, conratulations for it!! :) It would've been sicker if no slowdown was used in any point of the run, but considering how hard Draygon is I think it's ok. 100% unassisted Draygon fight in this hack would be something... Something unique. Very much congrats once again. ;)

Thank you guys, this is very nice feedback!  =)

Thanks for those tips Saturn, they are something i did not think of, they would have been easier and faster, but it does not matter anymore. Maybe I will remember them some other time perhaps.

I had to develop a strategy for each boss to find the best way to find consistency. Torizo and Spore Spawn were easy, but Kraid needed some safety because of that one instant kill platform. Crocomire I had already figured out and it is not that hard of a battle after all. At Phantoon I figured it is best to shoot diagonally up to hit the flames with more accuracy. His appearance places were all just based on luck, I had him appear straight to my position many times and ruin a good attempt. Ridley was based purely on his attack patterns, I got lucky when he used that leftwards tail attack and I had plenty of time to feed him missiles. Mother Brain strat I already explained, that was harder than I thought, just like you told me Saturn.

Draygon without slowdown (and savestates) has been one of my objectives for some time, but I just couldnt do it. It took me tons of tries just with the help of slowdown too. That fight is so random that I think the chances are about one in a million for success, but hopefully someone will do it someday. It is a shame there is no way to prove it when the time comes. That is the only part in this hack that actually requires slowdown. Saturn, you say that everything is executable in realtime and you have tested everything yourself, does that include the Draygon fight?  :D  (EDIT: Okay, after reading some posts I think you have tested Draygon without slowdown but with save states, correct?)

Tonski:
This kind of run requires a lot more persistence than skill, thus I am grateful to have something we like to call sisu  :-D
Ah, the sweet smell of a real-time challenge. You're on! I just need to start over  Embarassed

Yeah, sorry about  like 7 pages ago Kriole.

Yeah, obviously I meant all tests with the help of savestates but therefore in realtime (including Draygon). I actually never expected someone to ever beat it without (which is much harder to do even with slowdowns compared to realtime with savestates).
Yeah... I got my butt kicked. I was dodging the turrets shots but not Draygon. I guess I need more practice but I will get him  :D!
While playing back my smvs I took some clips from the run and compiled a few "music videos".
If someone is not patient enough to watch all 43 segments, they can have a sneak peek of the run with these.

This is totally awesome you completed that W/O savestate. But you still use couple slowdown as you said against Draygon.

Next time your must be avoid both save state and slowdown. This must be incredible. Hopefully this happen somedays in near future.

Go & try. :)

[sarcasm]Omg... Did someone I know die?![/sarcasm]

Why are you sorry? :p

EDIT: Forgot to say congrats on your run Lance, your escape was so freaking hilarious. I'll just say gogo lance-ranger.
Kriole: Oh you meant CERES escape? I thought what could be funny in my final escape...
Yeah, I did that on my first try and found it amusing too, so I just left it in. At least it proves that there is room for error and you can still finish with plenty of time left  :D

Have you ever tried to fight this monster? I recommend you to try it. The side turrets fire at you constantly and you lose over 1 tank from each blow that hits you. You have 6 e-tanks and 1 reserve maximum before this fight. Water movement is very slow and terrible to control so some shots you cannot even dodge no matter what. Draygons HP has been raised from 6000 to 10000 and there is only crappy Spazer available in addition to 40 missiles and 15 Smissiles and 5 PBs. I counted that if you hit with all your 15 Smissiles, that leaves about 55 missiles to finish the job, so even refilling is mandatory. This is the first time anyone has beaten him without save stating, that should be enough for now  :)

I tried to fight him many times without any tools, but I really couldnt come even close with those attempts. I can promise you that slowdownless win will not happen in "near future", unless someone really gets into it and gets lucky too. There is also the case of proving that the fight is slowdownless.... I came up clear and said it, because there is no reason to lie or hide it. Also that can be seen at least when I am grabbed by D. I am too tired of that so I dont think I will attempt Draygon for a while, I already spent about 10-15 hours with him on this one. Lets all place our hopes on Sneaky Paradox!  extra_smug
Thanks for the support. Kriole, I said something about you being show type of person which I meant in an offensive way. So yeah, sorry.
Speedrunner
I belive you Lance. I really can feel how hard/impossible Draygon is W/O slowdown & savestate. Still it is theoretical possible.

I not come try. My skills really suck with computer keyboard. I think i have enought trouble beat orginal Super metroid W/O my Snes controls laugh new I really need Snes controls when i play Super Metroid. Wink

None taken, your statement is true and I feel it is a pity. I rather go for trick/reallife time. For example my MZM TAS on my youtube account took 2 days to record (christmas ftw). Altough I fear my new SM:I TAS will be awesome. Still not done with the Ceres escape <3.
Kriole: This is one of the reasons why I think TAS of this game is so requiring. When you improve your skills during the game, you notice some things in the previous areas that are not satisfying anymore and at some point you just decide start over again. It is a shame though, I would have loved to see even some sort of test run until the end, because it will be very interesting to see how Draygon, Ridley or Mother Brain will be handled, not to talk about several hot rooms and the underwater trickery. You had such a good progress too, that kind of speed was really nice, since it did not reflect to the quality (meaning you really made good quality in little time). I, personally, dont care about the frame perfect speed if the gameplay itself is entertaining.

Now just waiting Tonski to release a new WIP (if he does at all anymore) and then reaching Draygon  :)

Oh btw, when reaching Draygon, I recommend to test if it is possible to manipulate at least some super missiles from Draygon, I think it should not be too hard if your regular missile stock is full. If it is not, it will be much harder. At later rounds, it really does not make big difference whether you shoot 2-3 supers or 6-9 missiles, though I dont know about the absolute maximum amount per swoop.
I'll release a new WIP allright, just now anytime soon. I'm still at WS main street with Phantoon beaten in my TAS and I don't have much time to TAS on the moment... Busy keeping my grades up + guitar studies and music theory.

My next WIP would already have the morph ball maze and all the way to Phantoon beaten, so do not expect to see Draygon in my final WIP 4. :P It'll probably stop somewhere after botwoon. I have to leave something for you to see to the actual run.

And I think it's very possible to manipulate supers from Draygon, haven't tested it though.

It sure is, just pretty low drop rate.

However, I just testrunned Botwoon on my old run. And I onerounded him with 10 super missiles and 10 missiles, none missed. However he did not die. What's up with that =(
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Was he left with zero health?

Redid the fight and this time he died. I probably missed something.

So, picked up my old run because people went emo. But the first Maridia room went missing, since I removed all the smv's for my new run. Although the only thing spectacular with that room was that I used an underwater CWJ <insert sitcom cheers>, the rest kinda sucked. If someone wants the smv then I'll upload it, if else, you have to wait for Draygon before I update on YouTube.

Banana Hammock.
Wow, getting 10 Missiles and 10 Supers in just one Botwoon round is definitely not easy to do. Respect.
Also I'm glad you decided to continue the testrun. This will definitely be interesting to see, and on top of that can also improve your TAS skills a bit more for the final run.

Also looking forward for your WIP4, Tonski.
Almost happy
WS super vs early charge choice is getting harder and harder... That and the what post speedbooster pickups to take will be the hardest choices in the run I think.

Also yay I'm at crocmire.
