I finally got around to grind S13 and guess what? I did it! All in all the segment could be improved by about 30 seconds but it would require luck for getting
a) wavepirates to stay on the upper level of Main Security Station and either
b1) getting enough energy refill until re-entering Main Security Station backwards
or
b2) just don't care about energy at all and take a huge risk dieing on the way back to Main Quarry.

This is the 3rd time I did survive a fast enough (sub 2 min from start to 3rd one starting to die/dissapear) Wavepirate Battle. The first two times I didn't have enough energy to survive backtracking through Mine Security Station. Oddly enough, though, I took damage only ONCE (1/6 of Energy Tank aka one of the troopers hit me with its beam weapon) so I would have had to waste time getting a bit more energy in Elite Control Access and Elite Control.

Anyway, this segment went quite/ pretty well enough to keep. I mean, keep in mind this started as a "casual run" and yeah I'd like to finish the run eventually and if possible get to save at Ship before Meta Ridley and Metroid Prime in some months. At that point in the future we'll see about how long I'll take time to spend/ waste on the two final boss battles... ;)
Can't wait to see the Spirit segment. Keep up the great work!

Thanks!
Personally, I'm looking forward to that segment. To be honest, I don't think that Phendrana's Edge segment is gonna be soooo hard/ time-consuming, since it is basically just a matter of time and by that I mean getting "somewhat good/ consistent" at the first dash (even 1 in twenty would still make this segment a cake to complete in comparison with some others I've already completed) plus a ~1/3 chance at the last dash from the ice platform (not gonna do it like T3 did in his video and my way is faster anyway, so...).

At this point I wonder if I can get not only sub 2 hour IGT before save at Ship before Meta Ridley, but perhaps even in Impact Crater?! O_o
Having saved in Central Dynamo before MQA --> MQB segment with 15% (yet missing -as planned- Artifact of Strength) with 1:13 whereas Smilingjack13 had saved here with 16% (with SJB obviously) in his AMAZINGLY WELL-EXECUTED 22% hard mode 1:28 speedrun. This means I'm 27 mins "behind". He had saved at Ship before Meta Ridley with 1:02 and with 1:09 in Impact Crater. Adding the 27 mins I've already "lost" compared to his run to his 1:09 save in Impact Crater, this sets me at 1:36 in Impact Crater.
Obviously, though, I am still going to "lose" a huge amount of time to his run in Segments 15 to 21 in rooms like:
MQA,
FHA,
FHB,
MQB,
MQB again after NEWBORN,
PPC from all the way down (a loooot of time added in 21% over 22%),
Phendrana's Edge,
the room with Thermal Visor,
Frozen Pike,
Ice Temple (for SUN)
PLUS probably some more that add up to another minute or two
PLUS -of course- the added up seconds (adding up to whole minutes) that come along with general lower speed without SJB than with SJB.
PLUS -as I say on every occasion- Smilingjack13's 1:28 speedrun is freaking amazingly clean! (Therefore I'm probably gonna lose another minute or two solely to accepting less clean play than he had done.

All in all, though, I think I could actually get to Impact Crater in sub 2 hours. We'll see, though... ;)

I have a good setup for that dash. Once you get the feel for the setup, it's more accurate than Metroid177's. I had begun to make the dash 4-5 times in a row; generally more success's than fails too!

Edit: I'll make a video and post it in the NSJ topic.

Thanks in advance! The segment should be no problem once the dash is no problem anymore. (Also, potential further 21% SS attempts (focussing on speed) would be easier with doing Phendrana's Edge in-bounds, too...)
The hardest part for me was the DBJ to the grapple point. Everything else is super easy honestly.

It's interesting to think that for segment 13, switching to 0-02 would save time due to wave pirates being vulnerable to power bombs. I figure that's "against the rules", but I mean, we kind of make up the rules at the end of the day.

Pirates aren't vulnerable to powerbombs in 0-02

Just so you know I'm not being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole (or lying, or something), here's me playing on my 0-02 copy (skip to 18:00 for the proof of it being 0-02 after the power bomb attempt)

Or I could've just seen this earlier and back it up that wave pirates aren't vulnerable to PBs on 0-02 as well considering I played on it for like, a year before getting my 0-00 copy.

But yeah, the pirates can only be PB'd on the PAL and Trilogy versions of the game. 0-02 is just a HEAVILY modified 0-01 version.
I don't think itsPersonnal is convinced yet, can anyone else also verify whether wave pirates are vulnerable to power bombs in 0-02?
...what? how could you not be convinced after watching an 18 minute long video about it...?

He just wants someone else to try, just to make sure.
Hi Daryoshi. Is this run on hold?

well I made a little pause from Prime but I'll get back to Prime in some days and as soon as I feel like investigating more time into practicing the MQA to MQB segment, I'll stream practice of it and help/ tips will be welcomed ^^
I'll probably do a "perfect run" (no damage, segmented, obviously) and continue my max% wavebeam-less playthrough first, though..
I was making sure you didn't give up on the run! I want to see it finished.

Well you see there're SO many new timesavers being found for (mainly segmented but also SS) 21% (most less than 3 secs though, but still, they add upp...)
but there are also immense time-savers such as the Elite Control UBJ which skips the Elite Pirate and therefore going back to reload the room in order to avoid having to dash the Ice Pirates, and a few other larger time savers that make certain segments look way less cool than they had been before new tricks were being found.

I think I should really just bring this speedrun to an end, because consider this: The longer it takes me to finish the run, the more outdated it will be.. Also at the beginning of the run I thought it will take between 6 and 12 months and now it's somewhere between 12 and 18 months, so..

It's important to say that I blame noone for finding nice tricks and timesavers for segments I already completed; it just makes me feel bad for not looking into strat hunting more.. :( after all though, this speedrun was NOT started in order to be a super-optimized 21% hard mode segmented speedrun but rather to make the community pay attention to 21% speedrunning, which M177 and me made a great effort for - and we definetly succeeded, I dare to say! ^^

Stay tuned; I'll go back to the MQA to MQB segment in near future! :)
No. It doesn't have to be extremely up to date. I'd rather see a run that finishes rather than a run that never does. This is why so many segmented runs have died is because of redoing the whole thing. I'd like to see you finish what you started, then maybe make a new one some time in the future.
Thanks for saying that MG. New stuff will ALWAYS be found, so you can't really prevent that. Daryoshi, you would destroy all the segmented Hard times, (thanks to skull for seperating 21% / 21% hard). I really want to see this run finished, as you are a really good player.

well that didn't take long! congrats!

Edit: Amazing watch. Obviously there's a whole nother level of optimization that could be brought to this, but even so, seeing all those tricks performed with such ease is really impressive. The strats in FHB with killing multiple metroids using one missile was neat, same with doing the UBJ out first try. That UBJ has always been one of the more annoying bomb jumps for me personally. I'm excited to see what kind of end time this run will get.
