This is the only segmented speedrun I work on more than 2 weeks or so, thus making it the segmented speedrun that means the most to me. Nonetheless, I am ACTUALLY aiming to finish this run. ;-)
This means that I will stick to segments with - relatively - big/ many/ embarassing mistakes and time losses due me wanting to save the rest of my sanity for further future (including non-gaming related topics). In fact, I want to have fun making this speedrun even though that will make it a rather casual speedrun if you compare the flawlessness to other Metroid Prime segmented WR runs.

You will only be able to really appreciate what you see if you have already gotten to know this game and especially this category very well; otherwise you won't get much out of this speedrun since it is not meant to be nearly flawless or even close to that level of perfection considering it will be humanly impossible to optimize the really hard segments in this insane category, making me not wanting to bother with the easier segments for too long just to cut out 10 seconds when I know I will lose several minutes to human perfection in some incredibly badass segments later on. This probably is the main reason nobody has ever worked on a speedrun of 21% (and even on hard mode) at all, except for Metroid177 (xxy xxyy on YT) who has started a more serious 21% speedrun than mine (but on normal mode) in September of 2014 as well.

Contrary to me, though, he won't finish it in the next few months but rather in the next few years. Respect to him for starting such a long-time project.

Nice to hear you're interested; wouldn't have thought that. :) Yeah I definetly will post a video of this segment when I will have gotten it, which could very well be in just a few days but on the other hand, PPC could screw me over many more times and Magmoor Workstation is dangerous as well (3 pirates causing me to fail the dash to the platfrom next to the Wave Beam door leading to the savestation). Thx for ur comment.

Wow, yesterday I got Vent Shaft on SECOND try on THREE different -actual = no practicing- (segment) attempts. Maybe it's time for me to omit turning off the gas, but then, I'd have to survive until getting to the savestation with far less energy: even if I get Vent Shaft on 3rd try I'd be left with less than 30, or even less than 20 units of energy.
So, while I am able to complete a segment with low health, it's too dangerous because of Magmoor Workstation where those 3 pirates randomly shoot at me and can easily make me lose like 50 units of energy if I get unlucky or miss the Ghetto Jump to the Wave Beam door once or even twice.

Well, I won't stream too much in the next time since I have to hand in a thesis paper or how you call that in English by 8th of December and I still have to devote many hours into that important work. But soon enough will be winter break (2 weeks). So, yeah, stay tuned. :)
I would go for the sane option if I were you. Sure it looks impressive if you're able to pull it of but since this is not a "serious" segmented run I would drop the insane stuff :D

lulz it's way less that 10 real time minutes, it's from 0:16 to 5:50 and the rest is me being "over the moon" until I finally calm down, reset and watch what my in-game time is on the file selection screen. (It's from 0:39 to 0:44). 5:50 minus 16 minus 36 (cutscenes, elevator, pauses) = approximately 4:58 IGT.

I think I can double post because it's my topic and it's really not related to what I was telling StefanvanDijke.
Here's the deal with the segments yet to come:

S09: Really, really hard to get somewhere near perfection + insane length of segment. I'll tell you more about how hard this ACTUALLY is once I have all the strats for this segments cuz I'm still searching for new speedtricks in this segment (and believe me, in no segment I'll have to search this long until I can finally start making ACTUAL attempts.

S10: Most easy segment BY FAR. I mean, this can't even get hard to do fast at all, unless I discover some weird fancy trick to exit the water earlier than normal with that slow method. (maybe a 4bj+instant unmorph or something, idk)

S11: This should be considerably easy to pull off almost as quickly as possible cuz if you get the dash+DBJ on 1st try plus get the 3bj+instant unmorph + dash to the savestation in Reflecting Pool, you have AUTOMATICALLY done like almost everything as fast as possible.
Unfortunately (?) I know that it's possible to land DIRECTLY on that platfrom with the hole/ pipe leading to the missile refill station - WITH NO DBJ needed to get there, if you happen to get from that little bomb slot platfrom to described platfrom with correct control stick adjusting + unmorphing at the right moment.

S12: Another segment that is very hard. I'm 99% sure I won't go for the GTH in-bounds method so I'll do the GTC SW which isn't far from the most difficult (required) 21% Bomb Jump and to me it feels like this actually IS on rank 1 of the REQUIRED 21% bomb jumps by far - because I'm awesome at Vent Shaft ;-).
And even then the segment has just started. It's like after S09 come two considerably/ relatively VERY easy segments and then comes another that will take me 3 weeks or so.
The problem with S09 and S12 is that I'm not even sure if 3 weeks will be enough cuz those are INSANE segments.

S13: I guess besides Smilingjack13 who is the only one to ever work on an optimized low% HARD mode speedrun, I'm the 2nd-most utterly hater of those Wavepirates.
What is good in my case (21% vs his 22% run) is that LUCKILY AS F*CK I can go back and save in Main Quarry w/o losing a great amount of time cuz in 21% climbing Ore Precissung isn't known to be possible --> gotta back to Main Quarry anyway (w/ possibility to save and lose just about 10 secs or so) and then - in another segment - climb Main Quarry + dash to Ice Beam door leading to Waste Disposal which then leads to Ore Processing (AT THE TOP OF IT) .

S14: Yeah, that should be pretty damn relieving after S12 and S13.

S15: Another hard segment but for some reason I don't think it will take me THAT long; probably just less than 10 hours aka less than 3 weeks.

S16: What sane people thinks that OP on HARD mode under low% conditions is one of the hardest parts of a 23%/ 22% run is correct. If you're capable of 21% it's not even worth mentioning (for segmented runs of course, fuck OP - my death for 3 or even 4 times in 21% Single Segment). For speedrunning, this segment is just somewhat worth mentioning because of getting NEWBORN afterwards and I already know that there will be some tricky dashes in MQB and FHB and then again in FHB and MQB (on the way back).

S17: PPC from all the way down is SO MUCH HARDER to speedrun that you'd think at first: Why? Ever seen those f*cking 2 plasma, 2 power, 1 wave pirates and on top of that 2 mega turrets??? WIthout some insane luck (RNG for missile refill + not getting hit too often when fighting the wave + plasma pirate on the middle platfrom) this segment is going to look too sloppy for me to accept it. Maybe, just MAYBE I will let at least one Pirate alive, idk yet, gotta test when I'm there.

S18: wait, did I say S10 (FCS climb) was BY FAR the easiest segment? Well, actually, this is a strong contender for the easiest segment. I just use the save BEFORE (in Magmoor Workstation, just next to the elevator because it's so cheap and theoretically I could mess up something in S18 and I don't want to risk that just because I didn't want to lose like 3-4 secs for using the savestation because PPC from all the way down will be another evil segment. So yeah, S18 is REALLY just a nice "keeping my sanity alive segment", considering saving AFTER PPC is VERY necessary for keeping sanity but at the same time, saving BEFORE Phendrana's Edge is JUST AS MUCH necessary for keeping sanity alive. ;-)

S19: Well, I hope it won't take me more than a month, lulz. Seriously, though, it might only take me a handful of hours, considering I start an attempt at this segment about 35 times per hour or so because - thanks to S18 - I'm saved just next to the 2nd worst room in 21% in-bounds.

S20 until 3rd last segment: We'll see if I use Thardus Dash or not; I cannot say anything definite about those 2 or 3 segments concerning difficulty. Probably average (for this run) level of difficulty but I'm expecting it to come worse (time-wise) than I want to, e.g. at least one of those segments taking me like 2 weeks longer than expected. We'll see...

2nd last and last segment:
Erm, yeah, no comment. We all know that I'm fearing those segments...
But hey, let's just get there and then continue complaing about a 90% RNG segment (Meta Ridley) and a super ultra hard to optimize and even survive segment (Metroid Prime). *shrugs in advance*.

Here is Segment 9! from 0:44 in magmoor workstation to 0:56 @ ship with Plasma Beam (by getting Floaty Jump). I didn't expect such a "short" segment. I'm very glad I got a considerably very good segment with few mistakes. the worst mistake was... you will know it when you see it (it costed me like 12 secs). So yeah, here we go with the run - two more very hard segments done. next two (FCS climb and WORLD) will be rather easy and then there is the X-Ray Visor + CHOZO segment... *shrugs*.

Hey, I'm making progress faster than I hear feedback! ;-) :(

Anyway, here's Segment 10 (FCS climb). It's a 0:57 save in Reflecting Pool after a 0:56 save @ Ship aka it's faster than I expected (0:58 was my guess)..).

Here I am now, saved at Reflecting Pool, after WORLD, with 12%, with a 0:59 save!

I'm very satisfied with this segment and I got it in a relatively VERY short time. There're some tiny mistakes but nothing to worry about enough to even CONSIDER making more attempts for this segment. Altogether with Segment 10, those are indeed the shortest segments but i managed to improve them to a relatively high degree of perfection.
S1 and S18 are short as well, but we all know optimizing S1 is batshit insane (plus it's boring to me personally). And about S18, I don't know how difficult/ easy this is gonna be to do clean enough so I can't yet say it will be the easiest segment in the whole run but let's be honest; from Magmoor Workstation to Frost Cave should be super easy since I can now climb Transport to Magmoor Caverns South without problems. :)

Thanks! Yeah I got a very good Segment 11 with very little time devoted to this segment. :)
Fyi, it was me who discovered that both easier and faster way to get to the Ice Beam.

Updating those that are interested in the run and ask themselves why I haven't even uploaded ANYTHING yet from the next segment.

In Segment 12 I haven't gotten any good attempt so far. This is because a) I haven't had too much time for playing at all lately and b) because I've needed a lot of time to fiddle around with the segment strats themselves in the first place. But I think I now know what I'll be doing:

GTC SW (obviously) --> transition to GTH --> aether jump --> transition to Life Grove Tunnel (LGT) --> with the map saying you're on LGT, wrong room unmorph at the top of GTH just next to the Ice Beam door --> continue as usual (aka as if I had done GTH inbounds). If done extremely well, this is only about 1 min 20 secs or even less slower than doing a extremely well done GTH inbounds (but considering how much harder this would be over this already very hard procedure, I'll just take it as granted people won't be dissapointed in me for avoiding that GTH inbouds climb in such a segment.

Cntinuing: DBJ and don't fall down (preferably) in LGT --> X-Ray Visor --> spinner manipulation --> CHOZO --> climb on the left side of the place where the X-Ray Visor was (it would save some seconds to get ONTO the part above where CHOZO was and then do a tight/ hard UBJ and hence activate the Chozo Ghost fight (CGF) but I don't think it's feasible to include that timesaver (maybe 10 seconds or so) in A SEGMENT LIKE THIS, since I'll lose more than 10 secs if I fail it which is easy due to the UBJ being so hard. (and if I need like 4 tries (not falling down though) it just doesn't look too appropriate.

As soon as the CGF begins, make your way to the large platform just above where you initially entered LG from LGT. DO NOT (PLEEEASE) fall down on the way there or during the CGF. With X-Ray Visor, thankfully, this CGF won't be NEARLY as RNG-based as the CGF in Sunchamber for early WILD in Segment 4. Still, I need to find a way how to shoot as fast as possible for such a long time since I usually start to "weaken" after a minute and then I cannot shoot so damn quickly anymore except if I were to pause and recover but this is not how I wanna do it since pausing sucks anyway. I guess when I will finally get to this point in a clean enough segment that I would be keeping if I can get to save in Main Quarry, I will just endure the pain lulz.

So, continuing again: DBJ to get from LGT to GTH (please don't fall here since the leftward HPBJ is even harder than the rightward HPBJ - and rightward HPBJ + try the DBJ again doesn't look so nice lulz). --> use a PB --> GTH DBJ over bars (no comment here) --> don't fall down in Phazon in the room before the elevator --> in Main Quarry, do a frontwards-bended dash off the scan pannel --> do a HBJ --> switch Memory Cards before saving --> FINALLY DO SAVE!

Idk if I'll get this segment in some days or weeks or months but it's not like I have to hurry for any reason. This speedrun obviously takes its time and this is not a bad thing. Keep in mind, though, that I won't go for a better Segment 12 when I will have gotten a CONSIDERABLY / RELATIVELY (to its difficulty) good/ clean enough segment. This means that e.g. even if I were to fail the GTH DBJ over the bars like 10 times, I'd still accept the segment, even if this one spot looks bad.

*looks at his own post from a week ago* --- Seems like things have changed. Which is good and bad at the same time, since I'm losing sanity thanks to attempts where I aim to do GTH inbounds. On the other hand: If I hadn't died against one of the two remaining Chozo Ghosts in the first attempt that got past the HBJ (<-- on 4th try) in GTC for the SW, IN ORDER TO <<<BYPASS>>> having to do GTH inbounds, I would probably have never done GTH inbounds at all.
great work, that last one looked close. The more consistent you get with the previous bomb jumps the more chances you have at making that last one. That seems to be the case when I see that compilation but I don't know the timespan in which you got those. Anyway, you make it look easy and it seems you will finish this segment anytime soon..

Stefan: you were right! i can get to the octagon where you have to do a UBJ in an actual segment attempt like at least three times per hour so it's really just a question of time.
The spinner manipulation and the Chozo Ghost fight are both very dangerous segment killers though, so it might as well take me several more fast GTH climbings. ;)

spinner manipulation didnt work one more time though lol. anyway, if i can keep the consistency for the DBJ and the UBJ (<-- with this I got better in the last days), I shouldn't have too much problems to bring this segment to an end within the next few weeks or maybe even just some/ several days. O_o :D

It is finally accomplished!
The long journey of knocking out this segment has come to an end!

It's a 1:05 save in Main Quarry with 14% on Hard Mode after THAT segment (after four 1:06 saves there). Even when the segment is still considerably far from humanly perfect (and what I am capable of doing if I were to put in another several weeks of hard effort), it is now at such a high level of quality that I can take it with joy and accept it even with it's *insert some negative adjectives here* mistakes. It's time to go on and not for looking back. In contrary: Looking forward for the segments that will come now and how *relatively* easy those "harder" segments are going to be compared with this segment. ;)

For now I'm happy with a ca. 6:16 IGT segment and don't care about the possibility of improving this down to like 5:35. In fact, after I got my 7:02 IGT, I set my goal to something like 6:35 so already saved quite some time over that rough time estimate for the attempt I will finally settle with. Even with a 5:35 which is probably very close to humanly perfect gameplay, I wouldn't have a chance at getting a 1:04 save since the 0:59 save after Segment 11 (WORLD) was at around 59:43 (according to my calculations).

Stay up-to-date even though I plan on making a little pause/ distance on this speedrun for the next few weeks. ;)
