Making people spend money on X-COM is literally the only way I can get off.

christ this opening cutscene

pretty neat what they did with the pixely graphics though
Definitely agree with Tomatobob here: UFO Defense is the king of the X-COM games. Terror from the Deep runs basically on the same engine and has the same mechanics, but they changed around a lot of the balance to try and make it tougher and kinda went too far and made it extremely tough even for UFO veterans. Apocalypse is an interesting one where you can also run the battles in real time if you want, but I was never good at it.

Enforcer was a FPS and Interceptor was a flight sim but I've never tried either of those and I hear both are pretty bad, Enforcer especially.

also yeah, looks like steam uses DOSBox, heh.
Yeah it comes with DOSBox, which is good because I don't know how else they'd get it to work these days.

okay you guys got me into this, now what?

do I just put it on antarctica, or go for a badass California base?

Also, yay, our constant talks have gotten someone else to at least try the game! Our plan is working Tomatobob! Twisted Evil
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Europe is the power game-y way to go, It's expensive usually but the first base is free.
Best places to start are somewhere in Europe, the US, or probably around Japan. US is the biggest individual funding nation but there are a lot in Europe so you cover more there.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Also it covers a lot of countries that give you money. The US gives you the most money of any country, but can usually wait until you have the money for a second base.
Club 27 Goals
shit, I clicked on the earth hoping it would let me drag it to get a better view of the good places.

so am I boned now or what?

attachment:
In my current game I have a base around Texas (seeing as it's based off of M2K2 it felt appropriate to start there) and I recently put one in India since there was a lot of UFO activity there.

And you can always just start over if you want.
Club 27 Goals
nope, Fort Knox will just have to deal with being in North Africa. They don't call it a Fort of hard Knox for nothing.

now what?

attachment:
But you might be able to work with that. Not sure if you'll be able to see all of the UFOs flying over Europe until you build a better radar but you'll probably still catch a few.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah the globe controls are at the lower right, I still mess this up sometimes!
Can also right click on any spot on the map and it'll center the view there. I mainly use that to get around now since it's faster.

now what?

Okay, first thing: Put your scientists on research. Lasers are the best bet, I think.
Club 27 Goals
alright, all ten of my African scientists are researching laser weapons.

how many soldiers do I start out with?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Then go to Equip Craft and make sure your soldiers and weapons are on board your Skyranger.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Click "Soldiers" to find out!
Anyway, I'm probably going to be headed off to bed in a few minutes, so since I won't be here I'll put the Beginner's Guide from the X-COM wiki here for you. Between that and Tomatobob you should be able to start off on the right foot.

Start with 8 guys but can have up to 14 in the Skyranger if you don't have a tank (which take up 4 spots for each one)
