Well, I think everything that needs to be said about the scene at this point has been done to death, so I don't see any point in arguing about it that much anymore to be honest. It could've been handled much better than it was, but personally I don't think it was as big of an issue as others do in the end. Either way, we all have our opinions on the matter, and although mine is in the minority, I don't care. It's there, it's part of the canon, and we can't do anything about it otherwise.

I'm inclined to go for the "Samus was on her period" explanation. Because that is the only one that is even remotely feasible. If I have to deal with it being canon, that's what I'm chalking it up to.

Pretty sure the games say he moved the gym inside there. All I really remember is the gym isn't where it was in Red/Blue.

Nope, the Gym and the island was destroyed when a volcano bllew in their face, and he moved to Sea Foam Island, which had shrunk to a pathetic size.

seafoam islands were fixed in the GS remakes and are now the full thing again. Blaine also has sort of a gym inside now that the place is bigger.
