The game's mode is automatically set to normal; you don't have a choice.
please don't use font colors in your posts. some people are using styles where they might not show up. just use the [quote] [/quote] tags for something like that.
I've assumed so. The passes are used in some Japanese site for a competition that ended before any Americans found out about it, but it's still in the US version.
Yup, worked on mine. I think my version is NA though, not the EU. It has the 'E for everyone' rating, things over here usually have specific age ratings.
Yeah that's been mentioned. A couple times on this page, actually. :^P
EDIT: Okay I just did some testing on Dragonfang's shinesparks. The Brinstar Super Missile Ridley First spark is doable on console (I just got it like that). Once I realized the quickest path it only took like three or four tries. Grab the left edge of second platform, spinjump to left edge, jump onto fourth platform, jump onto upper left platform, jump to the left of the final platform, kick off the side and spark, still has room for error.
After over a dozen attempts at the Ice Beam spark, it still eludes me. I've been mere frames short of it, too. I still had the noise as I hit A and it just made me spin again after the shot. :^(
Although after having a look at AJ's any%, it may not be a bad idea to save right before the p.grip. Then you can get a really good Kraid fight, get the Kraid Escape spark in one go, get the Brinstar Missile Hall spark after the bomb blocks (assuming you got the charge beam already, this spark is a bonus for not having to stop for it), and save after a really good second segment.
Third segment involves a Norfair Entry spark, the Crateria Super, zig-zag bomb jumping right after the grip, and the ZOMK Ice Beam spark. Probably about as long as the second segment, but I think that ice spark is good enough a time saver to make up for it. It might be the toughest segment in the game because of it, though. :^/
For a 10% (impossible to do 9% for my games version) hard run, would it be better to get a second missile tank, a super missile tank, or the screw attack (which would skip the part requiring 3 missiles).
I believe most people have a nightmare with the randomnes of Super drops in Tourian, so you may be best off getting a second pack of those, but I wouldn't know how much time Screw Attack would save.
I say Super Missiles make the zebetites much easier. In fact I convinced AJ to get a Super Missile instead, and he did so, beating his old time pretty easily. Really, even if you have double the max missiles, you have to remember it's really only one more missile drop that you can pick up. IMO doubling back for super missiles doesn't necessarily guarantee you lose time on the zebetites. You can use one super on MB, too.
Besides, Iron Ted randomly drops super missiles. Rarely, but they drop. It's not like you're seriously gonna shoot double the amount of missiles in a set amount of time if you have a higher max - you're still pretty much entirely dependent on the amount of refills you can score. You can grab 2, shoot them, then grab the other 2.
The Time Attack code? It just keeps track of your best any% or 100% times, and gives you a code that Japanese players could have used for a competition on some site before the US release.
Hi to all, I have been trying to speedrun ZM for some time now, it's really nice change from Fusion, no Adam and no fucking random eyedoors, but I have one problem. (btw I'm copying spidey's WR route for any%) I have never been able to do the acid worm skip, I always ended extremely frustrated trying it and just battling the AW for the sake of my nerves. I'm able to get to the last 2x2 block with power grip or just bomb jumping sometimes, but the last jump seems impossible and with diagonal bomb jumping I am able to get only to half of the pit. I'm getting pretty desperate with this. (I'm using DS Lite D-Pad) My best time so far is 38:42
That trick is just a pain in the ass in general. I can only do the bomb jump of the block method and I get it in one out of every twenty or so attempts. The DS Lite pad might actually even make it trickier.
But if it helps, even without it you've beaten the game faster than I ever have with it!
Are there any videos of the Rio room under low% w/ Acid Worm skip conditions? After searching this forum and TASVideos, it seems that P.JMan has done it in a 9% WIP, but he never posted it.
Too bad. Where's that 9% Hard w/ Acid Worm skip TAS I'm everyone's waiting for?
Also, what causes those fly-spawning hives in Brinstar to sometimes respawn on your way back through their room after Bombs? Is it just based on difficulty or am I forgetting something?
