I'm absolutely sure that there are no important differences. I own all three versions of the game, and I can do fine in all of them =). I prefer the Japanese version for the faster text, but it doesn't matter much.
ok thanks :D
Any% is the same on all versions. Now you have no excuse not to run the game :p

Oh I plan to :D I played through it for the first time last week and having only played Metroid for the NES in the series I was blown away by the amount of fun I had.
Nestroid is gross.

Of anyone playing ZM or OM for the first time because that's when it's the most fun.
I've been itching to play ZM lately so I started playing lastnight on GBP with a GBA SP for a controller.  Then I decided to stop and try on emu for the first time.  The gamepad makes it so much easier to wall jump, but IBJ isn't working right.  I think it has something to do with a minor lag caused by video settings.  Any ideas?
wait, you're saying a controller besides a gba sp worked better? you're crazy.

what emulator are you using?
Yes it's easier for me to walljump using Logitech Precision gamepad vs. GBA SP.

I'm using VBA
I find my PSP emulator feels much better than my GBA SP ever did.  The bigger D-Pad really helps.  Not to mention easier select button.

I have a PSP somewhere but have no GBA emu on it.  That's definitely something to consider.

I really wish they would release ZM for download on the 3DS.  I would love to play it on 3DS XL.  I'm kind of puzzled as to why it's not available. I downloaded Fusion on 3DS and love playing that game on it.

I'm going to try my GBM next.  You would think it would suck because it's so tiny, but I have small hands.
west furnace access why
so I'm having difficulty learning the horizontal bomb jumping strat for the acid worm skip. I'm hitting the ceiling before I make it to the ledge. Is there a tutorial video for this somewhere?
There's this one by dragonfangs. The HBJ section starts at 8:38

Hey,

Any way around this wall creature here? Power grip removes it.

Nope, no way to skip it.
So far there have been a couple of attempts, but nothing that worked.
Feel free to come up with something.
It would definitely be a thing.

Only things I can think of is trying to get a weird-angled SS glitch-through, which I doubt would work, or completing items or triggers in a certain sequence/dodging gates that tricks the game into not spawning it/despawning it.

Alright thanks for the answer.

Can this be used to get to your ship (first time) by skipping the Power Grip? There's that one room below, one room left of the elevator going down, which has a flying dude, water, SS blocks, and a hanging structure that prevents DBJ, but it looks like HBJ might be able to pass it. I wasn't sure if HBJ was possible/didn't want to put in the time to practice it.
It's power grip itself that is the trigger for removing the wall enemy. We'd pretty much need to find a glitch or something new to get past it.

This has probably been asked somewhere but I can't find it. Can anyone give me some tips/strategies for the ISBJ? I can't get the timing right to do anything other than get the energy tank near the starting point of the game. And I know IDBJ is faster but I want to be consistent with ISBJ first.
(I will be honestly be a little surprised if anyone replies to this)

If you can do it there you can do it anywhere. Take some time to get comfortable with the rhythm, once you get that worked out it's juts a matter of reproducing that rhythm in other places, and not rushing it because you decided to get saucy and go for the Screw Attack without Varia or Speed Booster or whatever and that heated room is scary. That's what got me usually. :v
