Oh, it was the side of the spider ball track.  That was what I was missing.  Anyways, I now have X-ray and Chozo, but am wondering how I'm supposed to get out of Life Grove.  The page on the side doesn't have any explanation.  I'm not going to have to do some horrible laddered HBJ off that rock spire, am I?

Just scale the room normally? haha
You actually managed great tree hall without space jump?? That's really amazing.

...*facepalm*  It's been so long since I've done that I actually forgot that existed.

Well, it's not as amazing as you think.  I've been testing out 21% on Dolphin for the inevitable TAS that's going to happen when Dolphin gets rerecording.  So I had the assistance of savestates.  I don't think I'd ever be able to do it normally; I can't even do 22% Vent Shaft and have to wallcrawl from Omega Research to Elite Control
Hi everyone!

Long time lurking Sb'er here, had'nt checked the site for some time, and was amazed to learn that 21% was now possible.

Then I found out it requires the use of secret worlds.
Now, back in my days, SW'ing was considered a whole different problem, and to me the REAL lowest percent is still 22%.
I'm sure some will agree and some won't (Mills? Anything to say?). ;)
Regardless, after managing the Sess bomb jump the other night, I felt like trying my hand at SW'ing, just for kicks.
Never even tried to enter one before.
I could enter the Burning Trail one without problems, but I guess I still have everything to learn about how to navigate SWs.
You guys know of a place I could find a comprehensive guide explaining all the different techniques and general SW behavior?

Thanks in advance!
There is an old guide but I don't remember where it was. You can try emulating stuff like IBBF from youtube for pracktice though. There's definitely some techniques to be learned to make traversing SWs easier or more feasible. Try searching old threads too, using key words like: Aether jump, float, secretize and room loading to name a few. Wish I could be more help :-)

Right. uhm. about mills.
Thanks for answering, diortemus.
That's more or like what I've been doing, I find a lot of posts where people talk about using those techniques, but none really focuises on explaining, well, what they are.
First time I hear about Aether jumping, though, so I'll add that to my search.

Hmmm...
Has the Mills issue become even touchier than before or something?

the prime section is hardly complete, but the techniques page is pretty good.
Niiice...
Thanks, sparky!
The wandering Space Dragon
Ok. So, just a technical question regarding the trilogy version. I went to reset my game, as I was on a veteran run, and wanted to play through hypermode, not realizing it would empty out my save data for the game. So now I'm on veteran again, with a reset logbook and such. I'd like to know if I did something wrong, for future reference.
ANKOKU
You complete the game and just say start new over the old save. It should be straight forward.
The wandering Space Dragon
Yeah. I did know that. Sorry, maybe I phrased it wrong. If you are mid game, but want to reset it, it doesn't seem to give the option to start a new game, it automatically loads the current game in progress.
ANKOKU
I think erasing the save will still keep your scans.

nope. the only way to clear a slot without losing everything else like scans is to beat the game and start over.

it sucks but that's the only way if you don't want to erase the whole file.
The wandering Space Dragon
Ok. I sorta figured.
I'm running 100%, and up until now, I've been using the WR route. I've got space jump, morph, bombs, charge, varia, boost, wave, and ice, and I'm saved at the reflecting pool. The next segment is supposed to be: take the elevator to tallon, bomb over the bars, take the elevator to the mines, grab the missile expansion in main quarry, scan dash to waste disposal, get grapple, take the elevator down, get the main pb, and save. Unfortunately, I simply cannot bomb over the bars with any consistency. It kills the segment every time. I also worry about the next segment, as I doubt I'll be able to climb the ppc without spider. I've never really tried, but it doesn't look easy.

How should I alter the route to not include bombing over the bars while minimizing the time loss? For the record, I'm pretty sure I can do everything else in the run, including plasma without grapple and spider, and I can also get the early pb in phendrana's edge if necessary. Oh, and secret worlds are out of the question.

to avoid those bars, you need to go though the crashed frigate or enter the mines backwards. if you get the PB expansion in phen's edge, you can go though the back entrance of the mines since that's faster than the frigate (this is how it is done in the trilogy version) and you get to go with plasma and spider into it.
So you'd do all the junk in far phen, get gravity and the early pb, enter the mines from magmoor, get main pb, and do all the stuff I mentioned in my last post. Hmm. Could work.
Hmm. I was writing my new route, got really frustrated, and decided to try the segment again for the hell of it. It usually takes me like 50 tries to get over the bars.... got it first time. The rest of the segment wasn't perfect (took a few tries to get the ghetto to get the missile expansion in main quarry) but I'll certainly take it, lol.
I run this here hotel of an evening

here's the situation, I am doing a 100% run and think I have messed the game up. First off, I have space jump, morph ball, bombs, charge beam, varia suit, boost ball, power bombs, wave beam, ice beam, plasma beam, gravity suit, spider ball, and thermal visor (in the order i got them). The problem i have is that i went through the space pirate area in Phendrana drift the back way first, thus activating the lights out thing. But i couldn't go through the area backward because of the metroid cutscene and the space pirate didn't jump through the glass. When i tried to go through the front, i got stuck at the observatory because the pirate that falls from the ceiling didn't fall, thus the cutscene showing the scan point activate didn't activate, making me stuck. How can i get super missiles without doing the boost ball thing and activating the Observatory? (by the way, if you have the lights out activated and go in the front way, a shadow pirate will continously attack you during the cutscene)

rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
ok im working on geting wild as my 3% (all i have i SJ and missles) im almost at the war wasp boss guy (but in a SW) and was hopeing someone know's how to get by that room with out the ball i kinda have an idea but if i get stuck im like going to cry its SOOO hard to get there (without ball)
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
is early wild do-able in the trilogy?
It is but you have to use secret worlds iirc.
