Is the series dead or will it live on? If anyone has heard any news or has any theories about the future of the metroid series, feel free to spell it out here. Also, just as a thought, does anyone think that there might ever be another 2-D game made?

I hope Nintendo returns to the sequencebreakable 2-D style of Metroid games.
I dunno, I feel like a 2.5D Metroid would be playing it a bit too safe at this point. But then again, we all know what happened the last time Nintendo took a risk with the series...

even though they will, i hope they never make another one. metroid's past its prime
Yeah, 1994 and 2002 aren't likely to happen again. :(

the biggest reason i don't care about a new metroid game is that i don't actually like the vast majority of metroid games

as weird as it is to say, i'm not a fan of the series lol

metroid prime just happens to be my favorite game of all time

Yeah I would agree with this statement. Prime 1 and 2 are my favorite games ever made. I was 12 when the game came out and bought my first GameCube with my own money and metroid prime was the game that came with it. Unless they can come up with a way to come close to the way these and prior games were done and NEVER EVER make Metroid: Another M then I would be happy
I hope they continue and i think they probably will reignite the series somewhere down the line, but i really don't mind which direction they take it, 2D, 2.5D or 3D. As long as the old school metroid gameplay is there. Other M visual style and gameplay is fine if it sticks to it's roots 100%, which of course it didn't.

I still just want to know what happens after Fusion
Dunno, i'd like to play a Metroid game about after what happens in Fusion (Samus learns a lot of new abilitties in Fusion) or a Prime 4. But i think that Nintendo will go for a remake of Return of Samus or a precuel of all Metroid games, something like the last wearer of the power suit (you know, the one that Samus finds in Zero Mission) or something like that.
What'd you say?
I'd like a Super Metroid Redesign. I do NOT want a remake though as I don't want the original Super Metroid "ruined".

how would a remake ruin the original? i doubt nintendo is going to send a ninja mafia to your house to snap your cartridge in half.

that kind of logic irritates the fuck out of me.
What'd you say?
That's why I put it in quotes. Just like when movies are "remade" and remastered. Some people complain because it doesn't compare to the original. Yes, you still have the original, but the new version is a let down.
One shall stand, one shall ball.

I wish they would.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
remaking SM without remaking M2 first would be the biggest waste of resources put into the series.

not as big as the game that shall not be named though.

A M2 remake would be awesome to see as well.

Well there you have it, Nintendo has not abandoned the Metroid series and in fact, they have two games planned. A 3D one like Prime and (this well get you guys excited) one similar to the 2D series. Hopefully another 2002 will happen.

this sounds great

Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I dunno, Retro has been hitting it out of the park with the Donkey Kong games. Maybe some time away from Metroid has given them some proper perspetive.

Then again I'm pretty sure Miyamoto was involved in those games... maybe Nintendo will wise up and have him directing Prime again. Retro + Miyamoto seems to be the magic formula.
