You're certainly right, but those series didn't make much money. Regardless of how good a series is, if Nintendo's not profiting enough, they'll sooner or later discontinue it. Metroid is currently reeling in dough, so I think it's a safe bet that Ninty won't quit making new titles any time soon.

yeah, good point.  then again, the DKC series was making big money, and they discontinued it...

but then again, rare decided to be a whore.

Well, right, that was all because of Rare. Without the developer that had been behind the series for so long, I think they just gave up once Rare left.

Back on topic (lol)... I voted "Yes, and we won't see something new for a while." There was Metroid 1, 2 and 3--Loooong gap--then Prime 1, 2 and 3. Kind of reminds me of the Star Wars saga, how they released 3 movies close together--Loooong gap--then the next 3 movies.

(For some reason, it feels like I already typed this somewhere... lol)

So, that's my guess. I bet there's going to be a long gap between the next console versions (or "trilogy"?).

by that logic, we're still missing the metroid 4-5-6 trilogy :p
Isn't Fusion supposed to be 4? Not that anyone really believes that.

Edit: I guess "Dread" would have been 5.
Doesn't Fusion say Metroid IV in the intro..?

Ready and willing.
Correct.

It's not like they won't make another 2D Metroid. They will, and it will be Metroid 5.

nintendo sold them because rare was being useless.

and they're still being useless, its just that now nintendo would be able to sell them for even less.

it was a good move on nintendo's part.

Wait, rare was being useless?
- They introduced prerendered graphics (DKC games)
- They were involved in at least one great game (Perfect Dark, and I rather enjoyed Banjo Kazooie and to a lesser extent DK64)

At what point did rare become "useless?" (I thought Rare left, rather than got kicked out)

Er, he's talking about after that stuff. After Banjo-Tooie, they did basically nothing at all for Nintendo, so, yes, the Big N sold them to Microsoft.

exactly.  and you can't argue that theyve done anything since, because they haven't.

CBFD 2 or whatever it was called was apparently no better than the original (though i heard that the original was fantastic).  It was a N64 to Xbox 360 port, and they didnt add much.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies? Don't make me laugh.

and they're taking their time making Banjo Threeie, but even so, i don't see them being overly useful in the near future.

Never mind; I read an article on wikipedia (about perfect dark) that states that Rare was sold to Nintendo during the development of Perfect Dark Zero -.- (Couldnt they have waited a lil longer? )

GBTG was okay, but nothing I'd consider normal Rare quality. did love Star Fox Adventures, though (but I think I'm the only one) ...

But meh, I suppose Rare will be useful in that they're the reason I'll be buying a 360. BK3 had better flickerbatting kick ass.

i loved star fox adventures too, but once it was over, it was over.

halo 3 will kick butt, and BK3 will just be more icing on the cake.

when i get a 360, im going to end up getting halo 3 and GoW.  after that i don't know.

PDZ's development began before the GC was out. i guess waiting 5 years was too much.

also, when i said the 4-5-6 trilogy was missing, i meant that there weren't metroid 5 and 6 to form a trilogy with fusion atm.
grin new  I have to apologize, too, because I meant the console metroids when I was talking about trilogies, lol.

No you didn't. The only console Metroids are 1, 3 and the Prime series.

[edit] Wait, hold on. While we're on the topic of worthless patterns, I just found one. 1 was for a console, 2 was on a handheld, 3 was on a console, 4 was on a handheld. Maybe they scratched Dread because they wanted to make a more fleshed out Metroid 5 for the Wii first, then releasing Dread (6) on the DS! [/edit]
I like the idea of a metroid 5 on Wii. The prime series is very good, don't get me wrong, but I would love to see a 3d or even 2d metroid on a console that isn't phazon driven. I'm thinking it's about time the Phazon Meteor/Dark Samus/Metroid Prime theme was knocked on the head.

In fact, a new 2d adventure would be great, the problem with expanding to 3d was that a lot of puzzle styles had to be axed, and it removed the age old problem of having to shoot or bomb practically every block in the walls of a room trying to find a hidden upgrade or expansion. That, I think, was one of the things that gave the 2d metroids their individuality, the shooting through walls method. And the speed booster, which was one of the most fun aspects of super metroid.
I still hold out hope for a 2D-perspective Metroid using polygons to create everything.  I think it'd be awesome--especially if it was huge (say, 3-4 times larger than Super).
watch they'll make "paper metroid"

Well, I did actually mean it o.o But you're right, Metroid 2 was handheld >_> What the hell is wrong with me  aiwebs_016 I feel an inch high, now XD

LOL  grin new I'd be one of the people who would buy that, hehe.
I'd buy it just cos it's metroid, and being metroid, you know it'll be good.
What I think would be neat for the next Metroid (Dread most likely, assuming it's on the DS) would be for it to be a side-scroller while navigating through the levels, but have first-person boss fights.  Sorta like Killer7.

Something like Sonic Rush could be cool, too, where you fight bosses in a sort of pseudo-3D
