The end of Metroid Prime series for real?
Yes. They'll come up with something completely different. (14)
Yes, but the next one will be still a FPA. (16)
Yes, and we won't see something new for a while. (12)
No, they'll definitely cave and make MP4 (1)
Hopefully literally, but I don't want to see Nintendo rest on their laurels after this one. I assume this just means the the end of the Metroid Prime series like GTA San An meant the end of that particular era for GTA. This only means that Nintendo has the responsibility to reinvent the series the next time around. I think the FPA format isn't done-to-death, but the series definitely needs more action. The find-a-new-weapon-open-a-new-door formula has to go at some point. How often can Samus lose her gear anyways?

My point is I'm really worried that this may be the end of Metroid for a long time. There's no excuse to Twilight Princess the next one and wait ten years for it to come out, but it could be a sad inevitability. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS NINTENDO. At very least come out with a decent, new 2D Metroid. Fusion was complete shit! And Zero Mission was a hackneyed remake, albeit a fun one, but that's just being lazy.

Sorry for the long post but the news genuinely saddens me :'(

Voted "Yes, and we won't see anything new for a while", but I'm only referring to console games there. There's no way they'd make another Metroid game with the Prime title on a console. I'm betting when they do make another, though, it'll still be in first person, but I don't think it'll be for the Wii.

I'm very sure they will make some more handheld games, though, particularly another sidescroller like Fusion. And what are you talking about? Fusion is an awesome game; it just sucks for Sequence Breaking.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
i would really like to see how they would do a Metroid in 3rd person.

i also want more 2D Metroid goodness.

Prime should rest for a bit. there's a limit in how long you can stretch the period betwen metroid 1 and 2 and they should move the franchise forward from Fusion.

although i think we could still see a MPH2 between mp2 and 3. they left the doors open for that.

I don't really care/pay attention to the storyline at all. As far as I'm concerned, Prime could've taken place after Fusion and I wouldn't know the difference. That's not what sets the Prime games apart imo; it's partly the overall feel and style of the games, but mostly just the titleword "Prime".

But I'd love to see a Metroid II Remake in 3D!!! Shocked
Third Person Adventure maybe?

if that happened, id make a video of me shooting myself and post it on youtube.
What's wrong with Third Person Adventure?
Yeah. What's wrong with a third person game? I recall EVERYONE wishing Metroid Prime would have a third person mode before it was released because no one could stand the idea of a first person Metroid.
metroid in third person could never work. ;)
Has anyone seen screenshots for that Prince of Persia classic that's coming out for the Xbox live arcade?  I thought it looked seriously amazing.  I loved the old Prince of Persia games almost as much as I loved Super Metroid.  If they did something similar to Super Metroid or made a new Metroid game like that I think I would cry from happiness for weeks.
I haven't seen screenshots, but I have seen videos. It's like.. the exact same game with modern graphics, and slightly more forgiving controls. I would LOVE to see something like that done to Super Metroid or Metroid 2. Preferably Metroid 2 because Super still looks stunning.

i dunno, its just that i kinda hopped on the train when metroid prime came around, and im used to it being like that... i love 3d metroid, as long as its made well.

however, if you're going to have us control samus from the outside, make a 2d game instead.  they're just as entertaining as the 3d games, and i really don't like 3rd person shooters that much (with the exception of RE4, but that had over-the-shoulder, so it was okay).

I'm up for a third-person console Metroid, but third-person shooters always felt really, really weird to me: aiming a gun while in third-person feels like the clunkiest thing ever.
I've always thought Ratchet and Clank did a good job with that. I still think that should be how a 3rd Person 3D Metroid should be done.
Lurker goes posting, this won't end well.  laugh new

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition actually does 3rd person view very, very well. I would know, I've recently beat the game and man, the controls are so sweet. I've also played the GCN version, so I can tell the difference between the clunky style of most 3rd person console shooters that Arkarian has pointed out, to the silky, smooth style of the Wii.

It's worth a try if you doubt me. :) I'd prefer the over-the-shoulder view too, if they did a 3rd-person view Metroid...

(maybe would could actually see some dodging action too? Finally avoid getting hit by those pesky Space Pirates laugh new )

And also, to be on topic, I would like to see this story arc to finally stop. I would kill for a full 2-1/2d (3d environment with a 2d layout) Metroid. Kinda miss Speedboosting through everything in my path, and escaping by a hair like in Super Metroid...
Back on topic (lol)... I voted "Yes, and we won't see something new for a while." There was Metroid 1, 2 and 3--Loooong gap--then Prime 1, 2 and 3. Kind of reminds me of the Star Wars saga, how they released 3 movies close together--Loooong gap--then the next 3 movies.

(For some reason, it feels like I already typed this somewhere... lol)

So, that's my guess. I bet there's going to be a long gap between the next console versions (or "trilogy"?).

YES.

Get that shit off the Wiiggle, give it to Insomniac, pop it out to the 3rd-person, and I would be ecstatic.

Lawl.  :'(

at this point i'd doubt that they'd end prime, then leave metroid in the backseat for the next 10 years like they did with super.  they see how popular it is, and they're probably going to end up making a couple spinoffs.

Don't think anyone's saying they'll do that. I'm sure they'll continue with console games, even in first-person; said games just won't actually say "Prime" on the cover. It'll have some other subtitle, and the story will take place at a different time.

i know that nobody said that, but nintendo kinda has a record of making great franchises, and right when they're at their peak, throwing them into the attic.  (Kid Icarus, Earthbound, Metroid).

You're certainly right, but those series didn't make much money. Regardless of how good a series is, if Nintendo's not profiting enough, they'll sooner or later discontinue it. Metroid is currently reeling in dough, so I think it's a safe bet that Ninty won't quit making new titles any time soon.
