Ok, I just got finished playing a string of 10 or so "Find Games." In those 10 games, I saw the finishing screen ONCE. In one spectacularly awful example, three people were playing against me, and every one dropped before two minutes had passed.

I'm not terribly good at this game, as my sig will attest. In the last game, for example, it had ended at only 2-1 (for me, but still) and I was looking forward to playing my opponent again, only to lose connection the second the scores came up. I was pissed, but also confused. Are losses such a scourge that my foe would eschew a competitive future rival just to avoid one?

Nintendo dropped the ball on avoiding disconnecters. There should be an immediate rank penalty for anyone who drops on purpose, so I never have to face scum like that again. Bleach DS, I've heard, causes the dropper to lose 40 or so fights worth of progress, a damn good idea.

Share your own uncool d/c experiences! Also, if you know any good sites to trade codes at, hook me up! Together, we can beat/ignore disconnecters.

This is actually supposed to happen (rank penalty) though the penalty isnt a fraction as severe as this sounds. needless to say, it is unlikely you'll ever run into the same disconnector twice, particularly if you limit searches to your rank.  If someone disconnects when they're not winning, it will still take them at least somewhat longer to rank up than someone who wins consistently.

One strategy that may help you win when lamers show up- Try to keep the game tied as long as possible, if you're confident you're better, and then try to kill them in the last 15 or 30 seconds of the game. I.e. Let them think they can win, then finish them at the last second. If you keep the match "interesting" people will be more likely to stay, than if you run up the score.

I've had my share of disconnectors, but interestingly, people usually only disconnect either A) after one finished game, win or lose or B) the map Oubliette is picked  XD
Good idea. It might just end up like the last battle I mentioned, though, d/cing after the match is over, just before the win is awarded. Still worth trying out, thanks.

its because of all the little kids who play the game. jeez, i hate how nintendo operates these things.

I can understand the idea of disconnecting. I disconnect all the time in Halo 2. The problem is that there doesn't need to be a rank-down for the person who disconnects. there needs to be a 2x experience for the person who stays in the game.

Nintendo doesnt know much about online. they need to learn a bit from Microsoft IMO.
Mister ...
Isn't there a thing where you can press a button during lobby time and chat to each other?  If so, what's wrong with communicating with each other than?
That's only with people on your friends's list. And so far, nobody from here has disconnected on me before. (You better hope it stays that way, or else we ALL will find out if you do it.... Twisted Evil Wink )

I've had my fair share of disconnectors, and each time I get just as angry at them, no matter who they are. (I managed to get into a random 3 player match against somebody from SCU the other day, who ended up disconnecting on me...) I hate it when there are four of us, I am in 2nd/3rd and the people below me disconnect, so that I am now in last place. I still lose, but now I don't get ANY points for beating somebody, since there's nobody else left...  Evil or Very Mad

I've heard that the matching system tries to match you up with people with the around same disconnect percentage. Of course, when you're just starting out you'd get up against a lot of people who have good disconnect percentages just because they haven't had a chance to wreck them yet.

I've had a few, but honestly I've never seemed to care much, probably because I'm just there to play, and because I'm constantly hovering between 1 and 2 stars so it isn't disconnecters holding me back; it's my crapiness.
While I hate disconnectors, there should not be a serious penalty for disconnecting. There are people who unintentionally disconnect from a bad signal, and then there are people who are forced to disconnect, although they may not want to. Here's something to tell the difference between an intentional disconnect and an unintentional one: if the disconnecter is winning, it's probably unintentional or a forced one.

When someone disconnects, they should lose points as if they had come in last place. Also, other people should gain points as if they had beaten the disconnecter.
I'm not sure, but i think you might gain points when someone disconnects on you. I was at 125 points before I played a string of around 12 or so battles, around 6 or 7 of which everyone disconnected from and I beat a one star on the last battle, and out of nowhere I changed to a 3 star. And I know I didn't get any extra points for beating any 3+ stars since it was mainly 1 stars with a few 2 stars mixed in. Someone really should test this out and figure out exactly how the point system works.
I've figured out parts of it at the moment, but I can't be 100% sure that I am correct on this. (It helps that I've pretty much been checking my points after every match to try and figure this out recently)

This is all based off of observations and being a Super Hunter (2 Stars)

- Defeat a 1 Star: Get 1 Point
- Defeat a 2 Star: Get 3 Points?
- Defeat a 3 Star: Get 5 Points?
* Haven't defeated any 4 or 5 stars  (Never seen a 5 star actually)

- Lose to a 1 Star: Lose 3+ Points?
- Lose to a 2 Star: Lose 2-3 Points?
- Lose to a 3 Star: Lose 1 Point?
- Lose to a 4-5 Star: Lose 1 Point?

None of this is 100% accurate, but as far as I can tell this is roughly how things work. The only one I am positive about is beating a 1 Star opponent and getting only 1 point from them.

I remember playing against two 1 Stars and a 2 Star one time: Came in third, behind one of the 1 stars and the 2 star. Still managed to gain 1 point out of it somehow if I remember. It doesn't make any logical sense unfortunately, based on everything else I've seen.

It's a start anyway, so you guys can base your observations off of this and let me know if I had anything else somewhat near the truth.  :D  (I'll, of course, try and find out as I am playing as well, but with more of us trying to figure it out we should get better results.)

Are you sure the point values don't change based on your rating?
They do. I'm at four stars now and if I lose a match I can lose a LOT of points (I think I lost 15 in one match once). Also, at four stars gaining points is lower. 1 and 2 star players only give you one point each. Not sure about the others. I beat a 5 star and a 2 star yesterday and got 10 points for it though...

I was matched with a person with 75% points but i have 99.2%...

That's not THAT big of a gap. If you were there for a while, it might have been having to resort to less strict conditions to get you a match.

Like I said, that is all based off of me being a 2 Star. I haven't gotten any higher to notice yet how much things change when you win or lose. I would expect things to be different later on, but since most of us are either 1 or 2 stars (We do have some 3-4 stars, but there's more 1-2 stars as far as I know) it would apply to most of us.
I checked my points today after I was disconnected on and I didn't get any points for it.  :x So you don't get any points when someone disconnects on you. Oh well.
