I just didn't get it.  And I just couldn't figure out the controls, esp the wall jumping.  No matter how much I tried to figure it out, it just seemed to behave differently each time.  Sometimes she would run on the wall, sometimes not, sometimes pressing jump made her jump away from the wall, sometimes it made her jump up the wall.  I bought badges, had different hats.  The boss battle was a total chore because I just fought so hard with the controls! I had spent hours experimenting with the controls by that point so if I still didn't understand them then I probably never will.  It would be nice if there was any kind of digital manual, or even a simple button map.  For all I know, there was a button I was supposed to push that would have made it all click but there's no way for me to know about it.

opium for what it's worth, you seem to struggle with the controls of like every game

maybe it's not the games that have the problem ;)
How does this always happen lol
And I wouldn't even know how to help because I don't know what the problem could be

That's not true.  There are plenty of games where the controls feel completely perfect for me.  Like the last platformer I played: Odyssey.  They were perfect for me.  Felt natural from the start.

well, yeah, that's a platformer. sometimes with more complicated games you have to spend a few minutes figuring out the controls
It's hard to distinguish between when you have trouble getting the controls and when you just don't like them the way they are
I don't think there's much of a difference
I should start buying games on xbox because you can get a refund within 2 hours if you don't like it
HiT physics can be a bit finnicky I guess, but that's not really a matter of "not getting it"

You just can't expect Mario here

This recent 3D platformer wave is brand new and basically no one has any experience doing it except Nintendo

And they're really hard to get right

Yeah, I thought AHiT got it more "right" than many but it's almost not fair to compare it to SMO. The controls are great because they're the culmination of several console generations' efforts at advancing the genre.

After finding an instruction manual on the internet, I see that there are moves that I had NO idea even existed that would have made the game infinitely more playable.  The way I ended up having to kill some of the guys in the game was ridiculous and time consuming - but I knew no other way and wouldn't know without a manual or at least an in-game tutorial.  I had no idea you could jump over them and do a 'homing attack'.  None.  Zero.  And why would I?

Because a huge flashy icon of the attack button shows up above their heads when you're in range?

Where is 'in range'?  When you're over their heads?  I never was after getting the umbrella.  Had no reason to get right over their heads if I had no idea that there was a benefit for doing so.  I tried to jump on a few enemies early in the game and found that it only hurts you, and never tried again.
LOL one of the bosses took SOOOOO long for me to beat because I waited and waited for a certain point to be able to hurt him without even knowing that the fight only has to last a couple of minutes as he is vulnerable to that attack nearly the entire time. A clue that I was able to do that would have been real nice.
Maybe it helped that I found SM64 dive traveling 5 seconds into the game

If you're bouncing all over the place it's pretty hard to not accidentally see that prompt a bunch of times

Which boss are you talking about btw?
He's a guy near a casino.  He drops lots of bags from the ceiling.
I beat his ball phase and then just turned it off I was so frstrated at that point

Another thing that pissed me off is in the beginning it said to press L2 to be shown your goal, so I immediately did just that.  It showed me a wall.  I did everything I could think of to that wall for a long ass time before realizing that the goal wasn't even in that room, it was far BEYOND the wall.  Why even prompt me to use that feature when the goal is not in sight?

They also make you think that doors you can go through have an action icon in front of them.  Not true. Some doors open when you walk into them, some don't.  Another 10 mins of wasted time.

I mean, if the goal is already in sight, you don't really need to be shown where it is. I guess the "show your goal" thing never bothered me because it's tied to the default hat (as opposed to more useful abilities from other hats) and I used it maybe twice over the course of the whole game.

I'm not complaining about the feature itself.  I'm complaining about how they went about showing me the feature.  They shouldn't have taught me how to use the feature while I was in a closed room far away from the goal.  That was confusing af.

So, I'm thinking about doing RBO in Super Metroid. How hard is it? Does Gravity-less Maridia require any crazy tricks or is it mainly molasses platforming?

I've never attempted reverse boss order. mainly cause i haven't been able to do any of the bosses out of order XD

I've done Phantoon first (before Norfair), but other than that, I haven't tried many weird things route-wise. RBO looks really fun (and tough).

Isn't the hardest part the hell run near the start?
