When a game company I've never heard of is making a game for one of my favourite series, I like to find out something about them.  So far, Team Ninja seems to have worked only on Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden games (starting with the big '04 reboot in the latter case).

Who here has played some of those?  How are they for play control, story, and so forth?

As far as I know, Ninja Gaiden is known for being ridiculously hard, but otherwise pretty tight in terms of gameplay and production values.

They're also known for boobs.

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
Ninja Gaiden had spectacular gameplay and physics, so there's your answer.
To allay difficulty worries, the developers came out and said that they were not aiming for a Ninja Gaiden difficulty, instead opting for one that's normal and accessible to most people.  As for boobies worries like some people I know are worried about, they seem to definitely be showing restraint.  Samus is not sized like a DoA chick. (Not that I think it would honestly matter considering she's in the freaking power suit all the time except maybe cutscenes.)

I will never be able to take your post seriously when you're using that avatar.

Hell, I don't even know what you just said.

I was honestly a bit disappointed when I read that. Accessible to most people tends to mean piss easy these days.
Almost happy
The only game I have played for an extended amount of time is Ninja Gaiden. And that is one of the greatest, and best looking, games from the last generation. All DoA games (save for the volleyball games, which are just stupid) have received good to great reviews, and all of them have an average over 80%, as does Ninja Gaiden 2. So they are definitely competent developers.

I'm a little let down that the game won't be hard as shit though...

Heh, the hardest Metroid is probably the first, and that's really not that difficult. I'm sure it's gonna have some mode of play that makes it much harder, a la minimalist runs. I just hope they can make getting things out of order difficult, yet certainly possible. Things like Zero Mission's Kraid first, instead of things like ZM's Ridley first. Despite being entirely fan created, I think they probably visit m2k2/sda at the very least, so they had probably seen the begging for a SM type of game, and all the complaints about ZM.

Heh, Super Metroid Volleyball Extreme, thankfully that dude left Team Ninja right?
I've only played Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, but I enjoyed both of them.  I know some people did get upset about their difficulty, but they had a perfectly acceptable low level too (though you did have to die repeatedly to unlock it).  Somewhere buried in the Metroid 5 thread is a post by me saying I want a 3-d action game like the new ninja gaiden games, so I'm pretty giddy about all this.

I really despise nintendo's controllers by comparison with a ps3 or 360s.  I can't help but think that conforming to them will hurt the game.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Regarding the difficulty: I felt that Ninja Gaiden's difficulty was a breath of fresh air, and a throwback to how games used to be, before they started trying to make everything mainstream.  Games where you fell in love with it, died repeatedly, and wanted to carry on playing regardless.  I think recent generations of players have had it way too easy, almost as if it seems they want you to complete it in one sitting, stopping you getting your money's worth.

Oh, that had been a single guy that did that? I assumed it had been at least part of the team, and I doubt they got rid of someone over it if they released the clips, not to mention the game itself after having gotten the feedback. It seems they've contained themselves for this project, though.
once GameFAQs, now Twitch
There'd better be difficulty settings (and I doubt there wouldn't), though it'd be great if they made them all available from the start (easy, normal, hard), with that maybe topped with a bulkier difficulty (what all did MP3:C have?).  A challenging game is great to have out, but someone like me who [semi-]sucks at things not menu-based (and some that are), may want to relax with a Metroid game than be on alert of spankage therefrom.  Metroid's got an aesthetic that appeals to a wider range than its gameplay, and allowing those not-so-compatible folk to enjoy it is a good thing.

i'm stoked.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
I just saw a little bit of the game action and I could definitely dig that kind of gameplay in the Metroid universe.  Also noticed the "lock on the door, beat enemies to advance" sections.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
don't worry about itagaki (the dude behind the xtreme volleyball idea), he left the company after NG2 was completed.

well obviously a team made it but it was his pet project, and after the shitstorm that ensued, and also the fact that they are under the watchful eye of the Nintendo Metroid team I don't think anyone has to worry. Plus, she's already sexy so it's not like that is anything new.
Keep this in mind. Nintendo R&D 1 is on board just as much as Team Ninja is.
Jagger ftw
I've always dreamed about a 2.5 D metroid, (like playing zm except you could rotate, but prime... wasn't what I've expected..
from the trailer, it seems like there ARE first person views, I hope its not going to be like soul caliber 3 (its not bad game, but I just can't imagine metroid being like that)
“Well done is better than well said”
There's some pretty interesting Glitches listed on youtube for ninja gaiden if anybody is interested in that sort of thing.  I can't wait to Play this new Metroid: other M (tentative name?).
Itagaki leaving Team Ninja may not be considered a good thing by some.  While he was behind some of the DoA aesthetics that have been laughed at, he was also considered to be the creative driving force behind the Ninja Gaiden games, which are fairly well-loved.  I'm fairly certain I also remember reading that a significant portion of Team Ninja left with him when he left the company.  So of the folks who are left, I'm not sure we can guess at the quality of work they do.  I think optimally, we'd see R&D1 handling design and planning, and Team Ninja simply handling the implementation, though considering the trailer shows an emphasis on melee combat, I'm not sure how probable that is.

Personally, while I wouldn't say I'm a fan of Team Ninja, I can appreciate their approach to game design and their (mostly) consistent quality.  They aren't what I would pick to work on a Metroid game, but hey, if it turns out good I'll be as happy as anyone.
Indie Lover
the last trailer from ninja gaiden sigma 2 gave the impression they are better without these guys, they tones the blood down, with i think it's good as blood don't add to the experience, and gave the game a more strategic feel, not just dismenber, and dismember, and a little more dismembering...

i hope they make a very good game with Other M, cuz i will not be satisfied with only one of these action oriented metroid games...
Modifying existing content isn't nearly the same as building from the ground up, though.  I'm definitely not prepared to say they're better off without the folks who left until I see original work out of the team, which looks like it's going to be Other M.

Then thank god epic games is not involved.
I'll admit that I don't like the different developers making metroid

on other forums people talked about ninja gaiden all they said was that it was hard , fun to play and the harder the difficulty the easier it got Wink
