I just noticed that all Banned members have the text "(user is banned)" next to their name, and it bleeds over into the main reply / post area.

Same thing happens with people with long names. This isn't a problem though since the text doesn't appear on top of the post.

Dunno what could cause this but for some reason a discrepancy occurs between "unread
  • " and "view unread posts
  • "

The second you refresh the page it fixes it, but I'm curious as to what causes it in the first place. I leave the pages open often and hardly refresh them unless I'm just about to look at them. So those numbers shouldn't be changing past the first load, right?

Odd, now it's messing up even between page changes.
It currently shows 6 in both places, but when I click the Metroid Prime link at the top of the page, they BOTH shift to 9.
If I click the 6 then I see 6 in both again.
There was even one time when I saw the disjunction I mentioned above, with 6 in the top and 9 in the bottom.

I'm hearing that banned members are unable to view/download attachments any more. Is that intended functionality?

yep. banned members have the same permissions as guests, and guests cannot download attachments.

correct. think of the top line of each post as not part of the actual post. it's for the username, buttons, and other stuff.

ah, very good catch. we'll get that fixed, don't worry.

  • no, those numbers (as well as the number of new messages and users in the userlist) are supposed to update without you having to reload the page. the discrepancy you mentioned is due to several problems with the unread system, all of which are going to be fixed.

At the top for the 'goto:' it has the Index, Boardwalk, Gaming, and General Metroid.  The index I can understand, but why the others?  Is it because they're more popular?

Edit: After looking at the main index - I would guess that's the reason.  Hmmm...  That makes me think of customizable favorites. Razz

for now the main bar just contains the index plus the four boards with the most posts. soon, that bar will be completely user-customizable so that you can choose what boards/topics to put up there, and it'll also show how many new posts each contains.

eventually we plan to make it so you can drag any link on the page up there and it'll become a "bookmark".
just pushed out a new version of taiga forum for everyone. worked hard today and got a lot done. i know fork will post in a bit but here's what i did:

    - no more interrupted edits
    - unread posts page automatically reloads on new posts
    - fix for inconsistent number of unread posts in mainbar and page
    - no more invisible users under viewing in the userlist
    - killed a bug whereby you wouldn't show up under viewing when you first arrive on the last page of a topic
    - no more "dancing posts"

    coming soon:
    - view most recent unread post in topic
Awesome.  I hope your software continues to get better, surpassing all others causing you to get rich and take me on a cruise.

biggest interface change for this version is the "+/- size" button at the bottom of the post entry box in post view. clicking it will make the post box significantly larger, giving you more room for paragraphs, quotes, etc. this is only for post view for now; it's not an option when making a new topic.

it's also pretty rough atm and is subject to change to make it easier to read against the background of the topic, but i wanted to get it in so yall could start using it.

there's a small bug with the large input box - if you submit a post while it's open, it won't auto-close. should be fixed by tomorrow.
toggling the larger input box will also get a keyboard shortcut very soon.

EDIT: lol, i really didn't plan that one out well. if you're in a topic long enough the paging appears as a dropdown, the +/- size button will be obscured by the paging. this will also be fixed tomorrow. ;)

I was just going to post about this, as in the larger topics, it's almost completely obscured.  I wondered what the hell was happening for a second, as the first topic I checked was the Social one. =D
What"s the use of clicking on the time/date of a post?
It's for individual posts, like for linking purposes.

It logs me out. Why would you want a log out button in every post?. I logged back in and I tried to post, but a message appeared, something like guests can't post. I had to log out, close my browser and visit this site again before I was recognized as a member. Not exactly useful...

It does not do this to me.

In fact, it does nothing except jump the page a bit.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Mine also just jumps that post to the top of the page.

Refreshing issues again: I visited the forum, and was looking at the index.  Within seconds the 'unread' markers had refreshed themselves to display 3, but none of the forum areas had any indication at all. (No circles with the +)

As far as I know, the index itself is not live. It's likely only the "unread" part of the header bar.

that's correct (well, unread, messages, and the active userlist all update live on every page). we definitely need to get a faq up so people can understand how taiga forum works.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
So, is there something that I need to do / change, as sometimes the new posts show up, and sometimes they don't, but I get the 'unread' change?  It means that at a quick glance, I do not know which toppics have had replies - unless it's an effort to force everybody to use the 'unread' option...

new posts will never show up on the index or board pages without reloading. if you're on the index and see the number beside "unread" increase, just click unread or reload the index.
    i noticed this too
every 5 mins the thread(or any thread) will refresh, even if no one is posting.
i find this really frustrating on the youtube forum. im watching a video and it  refreshes the page. i have to start from the beginning of the vid again and again.
    red chamber dream
just to be sure, it's not actually reloading the entire page, right? nate knows more about it than me, but it sounds like a problem with ajax or polling when users enter/leave a topic. what you're seeing will be fixed.
it also shouldn't be occurring unless you're on the last page of a topic - let me know if i'm wrong.
ya it only happenes on the last page.

I think this was already mentioned, but BBCode doesn't really work for Other Information on user profiles.
