to clarify, el padino edited those posts to consist of single periods; it's not an error from the forum conversion.

:-/ Sorry about making a fuss.

That makes me wonder a couple of things... Will it be re-implemented to display any info like 'Edited by _______'?

It could be useful, like to see if a mod has edited a post, or (in my case) to see if a post has been edited at all.

I know it's a small thing.

--------

Being able to do anything seems sporadic at times and next to impossible if editing. Firefox 2 on a Win ME.

But that's just on this POS computer. :-]

Edit: There is a 'unread [25] [tabs]' floating on the side. As in; it's over the far right side of some of the posts.

It's at the top of the post, next to the profile and message icons.
Ah. I see now. The little paper and pencil thing.

not that i know of, but i'm sure we can dredge one up from somewhere.

not sure if this is what you meant but there are still some bugs with editing - namely if any users enter/leave a topic or post while you're editing, your edit content will be lost. this will be fixed very shortly.

taiga forum does not support firefox 2 and will never support firefox 2. luckily for you, there's not a single good reason to keep using firefox 2, even on an old machine, so it might be time to upgrade. taiga forum will look much better too. ;)
just pushed out a new version. new things tonight are the promised fix for the stability issues and the beginning of rewritten unread posts. once i get the time i'll change unread post view so that when you click on the last post icons there, it takes you to the first unread post in the topic instead of the last post in the topic. i spent probably over a week on the old version of unread posts so it's a little weird to rewrite it and have it have more potential in just one evening. hopefully it will have the same or better performance as the old too. only time will tell on that.

Weird, I clicked on my profile and "Hide my online status" was ticked again.

that's wild. i'll have to think about what might be causing that ... has anyone else seen this and if so under what conditions?

Quote from Poision Envy:
Also, now in the Viewing/Online box my name has some random characters after it. It comes up as "Poision{00A" then gets cut off.

yeah, fork had me put in conversion of spaces to nonbreaking spaces (which then should get converted to ) in the userlist but probably what happened is that character doesn't exist in a particular font (probably the replacement for courier under windows). were you using miikii?

I visited the forum this morning to find that everything was marked as read, with apparently no new replies. Possibly to do with the restart?
yep, sorry, forgot to mention that. unread posts are restarted as of now.

No I'm pretty sure there is.

Nooot what I was talking about. I have trouble getting what I mean across.
Every other forum I view, outside of GameFAQS, has a "button" that will link you to the oldest "unviewed" page in that topic.
If all I wanted was the last page, then sure you'd be right.
But if I leave for a week, while following a topic, I'll either have to remember the specific page I was on when I left or just skip all the posts in between.

As another attempt to explain it: Where is it on this forum that it will say "You've missed 5 pages worth of posts in this topic. Here's a link to the oldest of those posts"?
For example, this topic. Say I stopped at page 7. Now I come back and it's page 10. Where's the button to say "Oh this is the oldest post you have yet to read in this thread."

I'm gonna say this other complaint again, cause now it's starting to really annoy.
Please put some buffer room below the New Post text area. I hate seeing it at the bottom of the screen and I instinctively start trying to scroll down so it's in the middle of the page.
Hell just have the buffer appear when the command to insert a new post arrives. You do it already with the text area.

right, that's coming soon.

Any ideas as to the delay before new posts being highlighted?

I checked the forum regularly this morning, and then three +'s appeared, denoting new replies, but when I looked, they were from half an hour ago, despite me having visited between the two times.

Also, it appears that it's just Firefox displaying the months as 'B' for me, as IE7 displays it fine (despite the warning of non support).

the reason there's no "buffer" is so that you can see the other posts in the topic while you're typing replies.
looks like i'm definitely going to need to make an alternate new post mode, where the box is both larger and farther from the bottom of the screen.

Awesome. Those two things are the two bits of functionality I use most.

Good luck with your plans and stuff guys.

no idea about this. it may have been a glitch in the switchover to the new unread posts system. did the number of unread posts (in the main bar at the top) change during that time? it should update once every 60 seconds. the unread posts page should show all unread posts every time you load it.

i finally figured out what this was. some people had %B in their custom date format from phpbb or smf (the m2k2 forum used phpbb 2.0.x before november 2007). the mysql documentation that i used to translate those custom date formats was incorrect; it showed %b for the month name instead of %B. apparently, you can also use uppercase versions of many other symbols, but that wasn't mentioned in the documentation. so what i did was add those uppercase versions and run the date format converter again. let me know if that fixed it. (it's complex because sometimes the uppercase versions refer to entirely different things, so i can't just make uppercase equivalent to lowercase).

btw, i'd like to mention that this date format thing is an excellent example of why i need everyone to help me test this thing. there is just no way i can know all these things, especially when the freaking mysql documentation doesn't tell me. i'm thinking - a B? in the date format? why the hell would it do that? but then i checked quietus's custom date format from smf after jaggerg also reported it and sure enough there was %B in there. so that made me draw the conclusion that the mysql documentation was wrong and that you can put %B and have it print the month name.

So far my only problem have been choppiness when scrolling (in topics), and posts being rendered in the pagination/reply area while scrolling in topics (for about a frame or two). I suspect the root of both problems is my laughingstock of a computer.

it seems like people running firefox on windows have this problem a lot - are you, and if so, how much memory does your computer have?

Running Fx 3 and Vista (still haven't bothered upgrading to 7 >_>) with 2 GB of RAM.

Also, the problem persists regardless of the size of the window.

hmm, that's really weird. unfortunately i think it's a problem with how doze firefox displays fixed content when scrolling; if so there's nothing i can do about that. i'll look at it some more later.

Not that I'm aware of, but in fairness I wasn't looking for it, as I've always just gone through threads manually.

Appears to be sorted, thanks. =D

Regarding this scrolling thing, I am running similar specs to RT-55J, and have experienced the same issue. I can't say that it happens every time, but my guess as to what it's doing is: I enter a thread, start scrolling with the mousewheel, and a split second later it jumps back to the top of the page, so I have to scroll down again.
Found a minor bug. When you go over a username on the topic list, the name doesn't always light up. You have to put your cursor in a certain position so you can click on it. Oddly enough, everything works fine in IE8.

search should work fine (much better than smf's in fact), though it only displays topics atm, not posts. what do you think is wrong with it?

I was referring to the old search; I wasn't aware there was a new one. Where is it?

I'm hearing that banned members are unable to view/download attachments any more. Is that intended functionality?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I can't see that the forum would know they were banned members, as they probably wouldn't be able to log in, so they'd just be Joe Bloggs. It may be that non-members aren't allowed, but that would seem odd.
The link from the main page needs to be updated.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
It only just occured to me to check this out in wiiOpera's single column mode. The top bar displays in full, though broken up, including the user list.

The bottom bar doesn't display at all, though.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I just noticed that all Banned members have the text "(user is banned)" next to their name, and it bleeds over into the main reply / post area.
