error, I seem to have broken a few rooms, I saved the clean ROM data to the hacked one and it still won't work, I believe I broke a part of the room data, can anyone help?
I'm not saying that it IS the reason, but I believe some enemies cannot have other enemies in the room with them. I seem to recall that Kraid is another that it won't work with, but don't quote me on it.
Alright, I'm having issues (I thought I got past the noob stage where I would make errors!)
When I test my ROM through SMILE, it works perfectly fine. When I load my ROM through the emulator and start a new game, it spawns me in garbage and the game freezes. I tried adding Ceres to see if that would help, it didn't show the ship touching down, instead, it just spawned me in a wall and the game froze.
The only hex related thing I have done is repointing rooms, which I know how to do correctly so I seriously doubt that would be the cause. I have my area load station set correctly for the ship.
At this point, I'm clueless, anyone know what may be the cause? Or would be willing to take a look at it for me?
EDIT: I found when it happened, sometime between 10/19/10 and 10/20/10 as I have my backups labeled by date. The only possible thing I could think that I might have done would be me adding Sadi's spinjump restart patch (ASM) but considering her ASM knowledge, I seriously doubt she would make a mistake.
This error is all that is preventing me from releasing a public demo....
This happened to me once, I placed a maridain room in Crateria and it spawned me in that room, only it was garbage and glitched. Did you remove or change anything when you went for a test?
Check DChronos's guides here. The status screen stuff is going to be just like editing normal tiles. i.e. use Tile Layer Pro. The message boxes are done using hex work for the most part.
I am using xvi11 for a hex editor, and i cant find any of the hex strings for things like varia suit item text when i type into the find box.... And yeah I know im sounding pretty noobish.
Do you have any idea what the black and white enemy pallets are so I can make every enemy black and white? I need it for a Black and White ROM hack. Please answer, It's a lot of hard work to even make the graphics black and white.
My guess is it'd be to do with the introduction sequences. I know you only actually see Mother Brain and a small Metroid (is it a mocktroid in that scene?) in monochrome, , but I'd guess it was just a generic palette created just in case.

>:(, I WAS GONNA MAKE A B&W HACK, STEALER OF IDEAS! I'm joking, all you need to do is change the palettes to your style of black and white and if you want to or are lazy to keep doing that, make one palette and copy and paste it onto every enemy.
Im very new to SMILE in fact a week of experience, this may sound like a noob question but how do you register it so if place a missile tile it registers as an actual missile pick up... Im very glad the forums for this program are still active I'm determined to make a hack ive been wanting to do it for years
You have to find a PLM, which could be the colored door caps, item expansions or those red arrows/balls. You right click it and find the item you want, then you change the low value to one that is unused. I suggest you write down and record all the low value you use.

As far as the low values are concerned, it's much easier to just ignore them, and go through your hack room by room at the end. You then just put all of the low values in sequence. Much less work.
Woah nice one guys this answers a lot, its hard to find help most other places. So theres going to be many more questions coming but in the meantime I'm going to work on a Super Metroid: Master Quest
I've just started to do my Super metroid hack and I want to know... is there better tile layer program than the tile layer pro? Its really hard to combine all sprites together example enemy and boss sprites.
Here is the first taste of my future project ... I thought I'd do all the graphics by myself.
You could try Fatilety or yy-chr, but the problem with the tiles not lining up will still exist, as it's just the order they're in in the ROM. Check the Tools section on MetConst.
