Quote from Sadiztik Fish:
You can always tell if your ROM is actually a PAL ROM or if SMILE is only reading it a PAL by simply playing the game in an emulator. If the game runs slower than usual (about 30% slower, and it's noticable), than it's a PAL rom. If there's no difference, then SMILE only thinks it's a PAL rom.

I'll try figuring it out when I get home, I know iy's not a PAL rom because I've been nhacking with this rom for a few months now. It works just fine on emulators.

SMILE is crapping out on me when I try to use the test room function; even though I've changed the path to the correct one, I'm still getting a "path not found" crashing error. I can't remember what file I'm supposed to delete to reset those settings; anyone recall?

I have a problem...I redrew some tiles in TLP but when I save it and open it in SMILE they aren't in the spots they are supposed to be in. Also some are coming up half drawn. Any suggestions?  Eh?

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Editing the tiles in TLP is not exactlythe same as you'd think.  Each block in Super Metroid is 16x16 pixels, and each tile is 8x8 pixels.  Therefore, each block in Super Metroid is actually made up of four 8x8 tiles.

When you edit the tiles in TLP, the only way you can really replace tiles in the game, and have them already in place, would be to create tiles that are the same shape, orientation, and design as the originals.

I suspect that most people creating their own tiles / artwork just create all of the tiles they want to use, and redraw every room from scratch.

In short: Having (temporarily) screwed up tiles is perfectly normal.
Maan...i've been overlooking that the whole time?? I feel dumb  aiwebs_016 thanks Quietus! Hopes this helps you too Rolando  Very Happy

What's the fastest way to search for the item(s) with a given index?  If SMILE has a feature for that, I can't find it.
What'd you say?
Meant to be in a different thread, sorry.

I don't believe it does.  That's why anybody with SMILE experience raves (for good reason) about manually keeping track in some document or other.  I have a HUGE spreadsheet with all of mine.

Also, because you can change the index of any item to any other, you would never be searching for the same item in any hack.
OMG FLAN!!!!!!!
If I were you, I wouldn't worry about indexs until your hack is nearly finished, then just start at the first room, and number them all up from $00. Then you'll KNOW they're all different. Same with doors, but some people link doors and items.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Yeah, that sounds logical.  It just throws me when I'm play-testing, and there's no item there, because it shares an index. grin new
How do I make a door work within a room?  I just want the bubble part on the end of a tube to open when you shoot it.  I make it like all the others are made, and I can just run through it.  Shooting it doesn't do anything.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I believe you still need to apply the relevant BTS, depending on which way it's facing.  You should be able to just hover the mouse over the blocks and type the BTS, or you could just copy the door tiles from an existing door.
I copied it from an existing door, and it still doesn't work.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I just tested it, by copying the four blocks on the front of a door in the landing site, and it works fine, so I'm not sure what is happening. Eh?
The placement was the problem.  Apparently door bubbles don't work when they have scroll PLMs on the same tiles.

New question: How can I change the rain in Crateria to snow?

Scroll PLMs always count as air tiles, not just on bubbles.

For snow, I took spore spawn's spores FX effect and edited it in the layer 3 editor.
...And where might I find this Layer 3 editor?
and were is the layer 2 editor? i can only delete and create a orange door corner layer 2 thingy...

Edit > FX1 - to the left of the drop-down box. (Mine throws an error at me)

Tools > Background Editor > Edit BG
Hmm.  I'm getting an error, too.

Are you using the most recent SMILE?  I was on 2.30, and it's fine now I've upgraded to 2.50.

Make sure you have an editable layer 3 (rain, snow, lava, etc) selected before you try to edit it.
I'm having trouble getting the spores to show up in-game at all.
