Would anyone be so kind and explain what exactly has to be done to get the crystal flash to work in that Lower Norfair entrance?

He didnt use Crystal Flash, he manipulated a crumble block glitch to go up through it while standing inside it

...I did?

I don't really know what the "crumble block glitch" is, so I can't speak my mind at the moment.
That's a variation on the Spring Ball Without Grapple Beam "trick" where Samus can stand up through a platform and then jump up through it. Or like in the Wrecked Ship in that one spot where you can shoot the top 2 (out of 4 high) blocks out of the way, jump on top of them, stand and jump through from there.
I am aware of that, but there is some kind of restriction in Redesign which makes it impossible to unmorph (and Crystal Flash) in most Morph ball tunnels and the Lower Norfair one is one of those (at least it was in some versions before 2.1).

Sorry, didn't mean to ignore you. Yes. I guess you could call it a restriction. DrewSeph made it so you couldn't stand in most morphball tunnels. Why? aiwebs_016

Because it's just harder that way. Twisted Evil

laugh new

But seriously. I dunno. :|
I restricted nearly all morphball tunnels because I didn't want people crystal flashing and using a super missile to enter places early, or space jumping up places I wanted you to ibj
Plus thinking with common sense, if I was Samus I couldn't get up from morph ball in 1 block narrow space, I'd hit my head on the wall. :P

But what about when the pipe turns upward? Very Happy

This is a tad off topic but, I've been playing Golden Dawn here and doing the IBJs has gotten easier for me (with plenty of practice). I can say 2 words in a rythm for when to lay the bombs. I don't even have to watch the screen (for fear of getting "hypnotized" :P ) and I can still do it.

Exclamation However in SMR I still haven't figured the pattern for IBJing. Embarassed Which is important for getting those extra items tucked away in some morphball tunnels. The gravity makes it much more difficult.

Then again, I do that from a standing jump (in reg. SM) and not as the morphball from the surface of the ground/floor. :| I can also usaully invoke slo-mo to stand and jump if it's too low too high to bomb jump up to from the ball form easily.

Hello I am new here and I was wondering how I can view the speedrun by Drewseph Without it going nuts on me.

This is what happens: Everything is going fine until he dies, and when he respawns, he just moves around like a maniac, as if something was wrong with the movie... Any one know what's going on?

P.S. The crc32 of the movie and ROM do not match, would that couse any significant problems? P.S.S. The crc32 of the ROM is: 520C3EB2; and the movie's crc32 is: 4D961AFO. Also I am using Version 2.1 of the Patch. Lastly, is the Speedrun of the game a complete speedrun, or an experimental one? Thanks in Advance :)
well, you know somethinges wrong when I die, cause in my run, I don't. you can DL my speed run, first result in a google search for "Metroid Redesign"

the problem is your SMV is de-syncing

Finally done with this hack. Clear time 14:15, 84,4 % items. Felt like I scanned all possible rooms but still those poor results =(.

Kudos on making an awesome hack, or rather, completely new game. Even though it shared the same sprites, it had a completely different feeling to it than playing Super Metroid.

Only thing I noticed was during the final escape; I successfully unmorphed in a morphtunnel and then I was stuck, unable to jump or morph. Funsies.
what would have really helped, is if you got a screenshot of that tunnel =)

Ah, I got no states close to that tunnel =/. Although the tunnel is kinda unique and easily recognized on description:

-It's a vertical morph ball tunnel, its entrance being a very small dent in a pipeline, opened by a morphballbomb.
-To the left of that tunnel is a snakelike formed morphballmaze leading somewhere down.
-In the very bottom of this tunnel is a tunnel leading to the right with a crumble block.

As I returned from that crumble block I somehow managed to unmorph.
yeah the description isn't working, can I see a screenshot

Is there a way that I can stop it from de-syncing? If it can't be prevented then, could you please tell me where I can download one that does not de-sync? Thanks in Advance
"Combustion Hands"
Ok... My friend turned me on to this not long ago. As soon as I got to Zebes, I realized I had to go and buy a controller. I went and bought one that day. Ever since, I have been transfixed. This redesign is fantastic! I would have never imagined redesigning a game. Super Metroid is one of my favorites. But as everyone knows, the game doesn't have the same effect, because you know where most everything is. So here I am, playing Super Metroid, for the first time again. Absolutely amazing layout. I came across this forum and had to join just to say thank you. I know alot of effort went into this, and I am very appreciative. And while looking around here, I see other hacks as well. So perhaps ill give impossible a try... It should force me to get better. But ... From one artist to another, (layout is a form of art) Redesign was done marvelously. I wont assume who is who here (name differences) But Drewsef's design, is top of the line. Intricate, Massive, Balanced, ... Beautiful.

Many thanks.... many many.
Woot! Many thanks my friend! I'm glad you appreciate the time I put into designing this!

how far along are you?
"Combustion Hands"
Well, 15:45 into it...... and I just beat Draygon. I take my time to look around, backtrack often, and try to figure certain things out. I'm having a blast though. I spoke with the guy who told me about redesign, and he only got to Spore Spawn. He plays alot of other games, and gets easily distracted from games he tries.

So I've spent alot of time playing, going back and forth. So I have a feel for the layout already. I have seen samples of other hacks, no offense to them, but, you really know what you are doing. I remember reading that you used to draw levels to games when you were a kid. I did the same exact thing. I remember drawing stages and such, back when Nes first came out, I was only 8 and alot of things have changed, except my wonderment and fascination with video games. I'm 29 now, And I am an artist. I see alot of games that just don't cut it from an artists standpoint. Like they try too hard, or not hard enough. Sometimes the most simple things work the best. And I always wish they could do a throwback to the good 'ole days when games were simply fun... Thats why I like the new handhelds, there kinda forced into keeping it similar to the old ways. Like Castlevania games on the GBA abd DS, or that Ultimate Ghost and Goblins for the PSP. Too bad the jump "physics" sucks in that game. But I digress.

So to see this game, is a dream come true. It wouldn't be so if it wasn't done as good as it is. I am an artist, and like you, I drew levels when I was younger. From an artistic standpoint, (layout) this is phenomenal. I don't really think I could do a better job. And trust me, thats saying alot. I would not rave this much about a game, unless it deserves it. I know there are others to give credit, programming and all, so let me thank everyone....

Id like to either be an art lead, designer, or project lead for my career. Perhaps in that order too. I focus on details. Details details details. Even the smallest most inconspicuous things don't get overlooked by me. So that is to say, I'm kinda in the know. And when I play Redesign, it's like were on the same page. It's great to see someone who gets it. You sir, get it. It is very fresh. At first I didn't know if I liked the jump physics, but I like it. It works. Seeing save spots not in there own little room was cool too. I also see that you kept true, with secret spots that don't get picked up with the X-ray Scope, so now that I'm pretty far in, It's gonna be time to SCOUR every nook and cranny. I never got 100% in the original, I wonder how close I will come in Redesign.... I'll let you know, but that will be some time.

Ah, I'll tell you one thing I really liked.
After I beat Kraid, I found that there was no Viria suit. ok..... I saw that there was a room that I couldn't get to, I can't IBJ in you game yet...... I go back... and forth... I got the third energy tank, after my second or third pass, And when I got it, I was like Oh, thats what that dot was, why didn't I scour the room the first time? I saw the dot....... anyway. A few times I ran through Norfair, and died. (yea, I ran the correct way.) Id musta wasted 2 hours checking every room multiple times. So I tried Norfair again, this time, I save stated just before I touched ground off the elevator. Then I quickly shaved off enough time to receive the energy from the whatever those things are...... did all of this which is required to get the Ice beam. It was GREAT!!!!!! It had me stumped for a bit. I thought I missed something, and I was stuck..... I had got to the energy resupply enemies before this, but died just before them, I thought going through Norfair was not the way to go...... but I was pleasantly surprised! Good job, That was a blast. Id say that was my favorite moment in Redesign.
I can't wait to get my buddy, the friend who had Super Metroid when we were young, on this....

Now there are other things that illude me. These Speed Booster blocks that are seemingly NO WHERE NEAR a running stretch, or that one that is slim as a morph ball.... WTF???? I see that spring ball is coupled with high jump boots, which leaves a open space under misc. Hmmmmm whats next.... perhaps the secret to this speed booster problem. I don't think it would be Sticky Ball, from Metroid II, your design doesn't seem to require it. Can't wait to find out.

There is one thing I didn't understand. How the hell was I to figure out the path through the Lost Caverns?!?!?!?! Did it mirror something in the game? Was there any clue to its path? I unfortunately had to cheat to pass it. Oh well......

I know you scrapped 2 previous versions, the second because you learned you could make the rooms bigger or smaller. Whatever you wanted. So it took a great deal of time. It was worth it. I don't believe in half assing a game. You had a vision, and you didn't make exceptions. Well maybe you did, perhaps you were forced to, but you and your buddies did a hell of a job. This is what it's about. And again... Thanks.

Too bad you cheated through Lost Caverns. That area was my #2 moment in the game(after Hell's Run). It was very exciting when I finally figured out the pattern. I'm the sort of person who likes those "puzzles." YARNEY! WHO WILL FIND THIS EDIT?

Where do I go from here? I know that
grapple is next room
, but how do I get there? I'm in this room BTW.

"Combustion Hands"
It is too bad. But on the other hand, I did not want to go through figuring it out. It would have taken me forever. So I'm totally ok with that. I mean, how was I to know, after the first left, where to go? It doesn't matter. Perhaps there was an indication, Perhaps I should have actually given it some time. I'm the type who doesn't like strategy guides, until I already beat a game. And then, only if the game has something I would have never thought to get. Like in Star Ocean 2, with the whole pickpocketing thing real early on.

Fano7, keep thinking about it, here is a hint, its kinda "obvious" Listen to my words.....

What words? Anyways, I found it.

Edit: I think I plaid too much of this today. Really nice hack Drewseph. =D> This has given me hours of fun. It doesn't even fell like I'm playing Super Metroid (except for Kraid).
"Combustion Hands"
ok..... word, obvious.... Now do you see what I meant? Obvious huh?
Super Metroid Redesign is the best thing I have ever seen. I watched the video from Drewseph and I thought it hard to believe, so I thought I was good in Super Metroid Original, but Redesign is harder.

I have difficult in using bombs to reach higher places.

I was wondering if there is a tutorial who shows how we can use Smile SM editor. I didn't get it straight, I don't even put an item there. it does not work at all.

Drewseph, give me any help, please.

My e-mail is: gustavo.mecatronica@hotmail.com

Thank you

I don't think Drewseph used Smile. I think he used a hex editor. Where he got it from and how he used it are beyond me.
