Hola, I'm new!

I haven't even thought about my avatar or sig yet. Anyways, had to register

A: Because this is a great site, I didn't even know things like the Crystal Spark existed, and that's the one the developers put in!

B: Drewseph's hack really blows my mind. This is like Christmas and Hanukkah and Kwanzaa rolled into one! My only complaint (granted I've been playing it 2 secs) was the less-cinematic way we're introduced into Crateria. I liked the idea of travelling through the old Mother Brain chamber and into tourian to get the morph ball, without seeing enemies, then having that eye scan you once you got the powerup. It creeped me out the first time I played it. Oh well, I'm sure he outdid himself on moments like those, I just don't know what I'm in for yet.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot one of the main reasons I wanted to post. I hate ZSNES with a passion, but the hacked ROM doesn't appear to work on Snes9xW1.51 or 1.502. Thoughts?

This hack doesn't work with any official version of ZSNES above 1.36. The "Work In Progress" versions might but I've not tested them. Snes9x isn't that great[and the Win32 version isn't being updated]. Because of sound sync issues it makes most games, including this one, unplayable. If you have to use Snes9x, version 1.43 seems to work ok, but again sound sync issues... And make sure you use a headered image.

BTW!! The "Justin Bailey" hack works perfectly with "SMR" as well as "Legacy". Just a little FYI...

ZSNES 1.5+ works

Maybe I'm doing something wrong[not likely] but ZSNES version 1.51[win32] is not running the headered or unheadered version. Are you running 1.51 on Linux? I'm using 1.36 just to run SMR. I run everything else on ZSNES 1.51 exept Top Gear 3000 which will only run on Snes9x 1.51.

I'm running just fine for the unheadered(?) version on win32
Armor Guardian
This hack can't run on ZSNES 1.51 unless you don't patch the ROM beforehand. You must have the original rom renamed to the name of the patch if you want it to work.

You mixed the emulators up.

BOMBJUMPING IN THE ACID PART OF CRATERIA!!!! HOW THE F*** DOES HE EXPECT ME TO DO THIS SH** WITH ONLY THREE OF THEM!

It's in the beginning of the game so I'm sure it's not spoiling anything.

EDIT: Phew I actually did it! It's so rewarding. Drew's still a cock, though.

...I don't seem to recall having to bomb jump in early crateria. O_o Do you mean the morph tunnels at jumping height? Because you're supposed to jump/morph into those. Just hold jump as you're morphing and you shouldn't lose speed.

Funny that people have to resort to complicated tricks to pass obstacles because they didn't find the "correct" method the first time, like those three or so people in the universe that found Fusion's secret message because they didn't realize you can freeze unpuffed puffers.

I have no idea what you're talking about.  you never need to ibj in my hack to complete the game.  let alone bomb jump over acid.  what were you talking about?
You sometimes need to double bj from the ground one repeat though, but that is pretty easy to do.
No need to freak out either, jeez.
he must be in the room just before the bombs? there was acid in that room / high morph ball tracks.

Does the lava before Crocomire count as acid?
If it burns you through Gravity Suit and has water physics, then yes, it's counted as acid.
I was speaking of a high morph in Crateria, I didn't know I didn't have to bomb jump, that takes a huge load off of my mind. Do you have any tips for high ball morphing? I believe I have to do it again and am far from perfecting the timing. Excellent hack, Drewseph! I didn't know you were still perusing this forum. I still think you're  a bit evil for making such a tough game but I'm sure it will be all the more satisfying when I beat it. The concept of hacks like these that basically reinvent a classic are so satisfying, especially because I believe this era is the best in gaming. Thank you so much, I was so happy when I found out this exists. Do you have any idea why the hack won't work in Snes9x Windows versions above 1.4, though?

Press jump, then immediately tap down twice. Not that you can do it in any other way...

Hmm? I know it doesn't work in ZSNES 1.4x, but I've never heard about it not working in any version of Snes9x. Are you sure you haven't confused them? SMR works perfectly in Snes9x 1.43 and 1.51 here.

Well, duh. I meant anything useful, that's like asking for tips on not dying while fighting mother brain and someone saying "Make sure your health never reaches zero" Thank you for replying so quickly, though!
Well there's just nothing more to it, really. As I said, there's only one way you could possibly do that.

The reason I'm replying so quickly is that I'm getting e-mail notofications for this topic.
Don't forget to hold jump while you press down laugh new
That's the kind of tip I was talking about. Thank you so much!
I need some help.

I'm near the beginning of the game. I've been to Brinstar but I'm back in Crateria, moving right. I can't seem to find the bomb, and it seems like I need it before I can continue/go back. I've gone through areas multiple times checking tiles that could lead to secrets and other stuff... but I just can't seem to advance.

Other than this, I cannot seem to find a working link to the FAQ. It doesn't seem to be on gamefaqs.com anymore, I don't know why, probably because it is just a hack. So if someone could post a working link to the FAQ that'd be great for me and the ones like me who are lost/frustrated with the same areas.

I usually don't resort to FAQs to get through games but this is ridiculous. I can't go anywhere.

Thank you

If I had realized it's not a spoiler enough subject, I might not have used spoiler tags to respond to your spoiler tagged question and I could have been of some use. Sorry. >_<

I don't remember if that part is mentioned in the readme.txt (I hope you read it). There's this, though.
Just posting to say I just found the bombs.

It really does give the same feeling of accomplishment as discovering where to go next in the original Super Metroid.

Thanks Drewseph for such a great hack.
