Well that's an interesting idea, but its a laptop and I don't know how to open it =( I can get it all taken apart except for one part in the middle that doesn't want to separate.

Compaq if anyone cares, I'll see if I can get it taken care of later this week.

search their support site or the internet for a technical manual to help take it apart (and put it back together again). Most major brands have tech manuals available.
YES, I found the power bombs!  I suppose next item now is speed booster.

I asked this question before but no one answered so I need to ask again- well it isn't really a question but sue me -.-

Periodically my snes9x freezes... no idea why. It just does. I'll just be jumping or running or speed boosting or whatever in some random place and I just suddenly lose everything. With the scarcity of save points I can lose a lot of data so I've been trying to use savestates to backup my data, but often when I use them I get an error message and the game shuts down (much more often then otherwise). I suppose the best thing to do at this point would be to not use them at all, but this is seriously pissing me off, so does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong with my game and how to fix it? I'm thinking it could be my computer itself going bad as its having memory problems and completely shuts down whenever I try to load a game that stresses it- like pretty much any cd-rom based game. I really can't move forward much at all right now because the problem is getting worse, so for now I'm stuck somewhere in norfair with the speed booster.

oh and here's a couple random things I did for fun

Yeah, that happens to me after playing a vbm then playing another vbm within like 1 minute of the 1st ending

try not save stating to quickly is what i;m saying
I'm missing 5 Chozo Guardians.
2 in Brinstar (West and Central Sector)
1 in Maridia (Central Sector)
1 in Norfair (West Sector)
1 in Crateria (Central Sector)

Where can I find them? (Rooms please.)
Well I took out my fan and cleaned it, and it seems to work fine now so that's a huge relief *knock on wood*. I got it working a bit last night so I did some exploring around, found

wave beam :)

also decided to make a couple movies of a sweet trick I found, I bet some/many/most of you have found it, but I made a movie anyway, just because I can. And because I figured out how rerecords work ^.^

So I present now:

Screw attack without space jump, TAS'd to make it look sweet: http://media.putfile.com/ TAS-clip-of-early-screw-in-SMR

and

A realistic method of the above, again TAS but I did it to stretch the timing about as much as I could to show you about how much time you have to pull it off- its really not as intimidating as it sounds- but charging the 2nd to last shinespark is a must- there really is no way to get back if you mess up, but lucky for you there's a save station reasonably close- just grapple across the lava pit- you can't ibj up and go the other way because the door is greyed out :( but anyway here's the vid:

copy/paste both- I had to take out the hyperlink because the url gives away the spoiler.
Cool.  I found the same thing a few minutes ago myself, but didn't charge the spark again before getting the SA.  So, I couldn't get out.

Also, mine appears to be broken, as the SA won't work for me.  Either that, or I'm missing something.  Doesn't really matter though, as I had to reset.  I just hope it works next time I get it.
You can only use it while you run and jump. That fooled me for awhile too.

My items  (minor spoilers)

Nah it's not that.  Still doesn't work.  Even if I build up to the speed to see echoes, no SA.  Maybe it depends on items.  I'll just leave it for now and hope it works when I come back to it.

EDIT:  I think it's the way my buttons are mapped, because I can get it to work sometimes.  The 'you can only press so many buttons at once' feature.
you do NOT need to be running to Screw Attack, you simply need to be pressing the run button, and from a stand still or a run, just go into a spin jump, and the Screw Attack will turn on
The "too many buttons" thing is easy to avoid (at least for me).  I just moved ZSNES's default key pattern of A-D and Z-C over one to S-F and X-V since it seemed that Z and A were the culprits.
People are actually playing this without a controller?  Shocked
I find it easiest to controll on a keyboard, I can hit up then down faster than on a D-pad
Loving the game so far, although it can get frustrating at times (especially all the instant death at the beginning).  Thank god for save states.  A question...

I'm in a room in western Norfair directly to the northeast of a vertical room with a dot at the top on the map, and the room to the right has a blue gate in it.  Bombing the blocks on the right side of the room reveals speed blocks.  There are also speed blocks in the room to the right, at the top of the shaft on the left, near a secret passage that leads to a dead end, and also at the very bottom of the shaft on the left.  Research tells me that the Wave Beam is in this area, and that I need to use the Speed Booster to get it.  How would I go about breaking these speed blocks?  I've tried doing a quick charge in the room to the left and shinesparking the ceiling in the center of the room with the speed blocks, but it won't break, and I can't reach the speed blocks before my charge wears out.  I'm totally lost.  I've scoured every room surrounding the area.  I'm playing on ZSNES if that helps.  Thanks.

Thanks a lot!  All fixed!
I am completely lost in the Lost Caverns  :?
Mister ...
I downloaded the unheadered version (?) and I'm not sure how to run it.  DO I need to apply it to the Old SM ROM and if so, how do I do that?  Otherwise, do I need the other version of SMRemake?
I finally made it through the Lost Caverns but still didn't find the Gravity Suit.

I'm pretty ticked off though... it was something extremely simple that was keeping me from finding the right way.  Evil or Very Mad

edit: nevermind.  Embarassed
I did not find that something simple, I've come to a really long path and now I still haven't been able to find the exit... I KNOW that it's endless if you head to the right, but when I get x times up (x being random) then left I come back to the 4-way path again... can anyone help me or say if my path is correct? I've done that over 10 times...
Ridley!
How do I download it?

Are you talking about the Lost Caverns? I nearly gave up for a bit, but I eventually got it. Unfortuantely, it's tough to give an exact path through it. My advice is this:

At each crossroad, if the large stalacite/stalagmite is on the top, right, or left, go that way. If there is a large one for both the left and right, go down. Make sure if you go right that you jump from the left edge onto the right platform and dont drop down onto the ledge below and then go right: this will screw it up. I didn't even realize I was hosing myself with that for quite awhile. Hope that helps.

And when you finally reach the point where you can't go up anymore, make sure you go right or you will REALLY kick yourself.
Hey guys, I registered on this forum just so I could possibly get a little bit of help.  I've been loving SMR a whole bunch - it's truly the sequel we've always wanted - however it is almost *too* hard at times.

Right now I'm just stuck.  Absolutely stuck.  I have 2 energy tanks, 3 SM's, 9 regulars, bombs, and wall jump boots.  I have just beaten Kraid, and I'm right at the elevator that goes down to Norfair.  Norfair gives the powersuit constant damage so I start running to the right, then there's another room that still gives you damage, and then when I make it through THAT room (just barely) it still gives me damage, so I die, every time.  And I don't seem to be able to backtrack my steps back in "red" Brinstar.  So, any helpful tips from you guys?  Is the Varia suit still in Brinstar?  And should I be able to find it?  Thanks in advance.
you're doing it right, but you need to get the third tank in brinstar, its within the point of no return, so you can get it, there should be a green door on the left side of the big red room before kraid, the etank is in there.

The difficuly of the hack gets easier as you get stronger, but if you consider "difficuly" as in not being able to find the path, then yes this is hard, because the theme of the hack is exploration
