I can't see that video.
It's in divx format. if you can watch SDA speedruns you should be able to watch this too.
I can get it fine but it won't open. And btw, although I have DivX on this computer I watch all the runs on a different one.

I've been trying a speed run, and I'm having trouble with Boost Guardian. I have two e-tanks and no dark suit and just can't beat Boosty. The one-round method just doesn't seem to work. Boosty comes out of morph ball mode regardless of where I'm standing. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

2tanks, no dark suit, one round boost guardian is insanely difficult. It was the most frusterating part of my run with the robot. I spent 6 hours or something like that before killing him.

I don't know if killing him in the regular way is easier but I've never done it. Sparky and Graveworm did it I think.

Good luck!

Quote from silent (((((echo))))):
I'm sorry Mr Potter but this trick was found by me :(

It was found very recently (after I finished the any% run.)
...

I'm surprised it wasn't found sooner.  That's the first thing I discovered when I first did that trick.
Two questions about Boosty:

1) Is it quicker to bomb the door to Dark Arena, or get an instant unmorph and shoot the door?

2) Should I wait in the Safe Zone to regain health for a period of time?
I run this here hotel of an evening
1. the instant unmorph seems to be faster

2. that depends on your skill on boosty, and how many tanks you have, and how much energy you lost between the save and here. i usually do when going for the one round boosty, but if i'm doing a speed run i don't
You shouldn't wait in the safe zone.
I finally beat Boosty. I'm not exactly going for the world record, so I just took the first segment where I beat him. (actually, it was the second, because after the first I died in the hallway due to dark atmosphere.) So now I'm in the extremely difficult part of the run where I roll jump across Grand Abyss... anything special I should know about that that isn't on the site?
I can't get the screw attack early and DON'T have the grapple beam. How do I fix it? I'm stuck.Oh yeah...no ar :(

Just a quick note...

Mr. Potter has JUST solved Vault without space jump!!!!

It involves, using a dash from platform 2 to the 2nd spinner and a blind unmorph onto the ledge.  You have to make sure that the rezbit on that platform is still alive and he has to hit you as you dash.

Oh, and one more thing....

Mr. Green
Congrats on solving Vault!

And congrats on beating Boosty, Mr. Potter. The two round trick works fine for me in hard mode. Surprisingly, I've never tried one round in normal.
It was multi-round, though...

And although it's true that Vault is solved, it doesn't really fit in the Speed Tricks topic... >_> <_< *runs*

Mr. Potter, you can thank me for that one (2 posts up).  I was just excited. :)
Everyone go look at part 15 of my no-SJ run, located here:

http://zeromission.co.uk/mr_potter/no_space_jump/part15.avi

Notice when I'm fighting Spider Guardian, something happens and I end up getting Spider Guardian to hit the second electric thing first and the first electric thing second. Not sure how I did this, but I thought maybe we could get SG to hit the third electric thingy first and trick the game into thinking SG is dead. Or maybe we could just do what I did in the video and save time by not going up to the second slot. Anyway, this could definitely save time on Spidey in a speed run.
I think I know what happened. If you are behind the gate that goes down when you hit the bomb slot and you roll into it from behind, it goes up to let you out, terminating the "you hit the bomb slot" sequence. For some reason, this confused the game into "lowering" the gate on level 2 right when SG hit it, so even though it appeared up, it was down, and SG went up it and ran into the second electric thing. However, the camera zoomed in on the first electric thing which leads me to believe that the order in which the electric things are hit is irrelevant, as the game will count them in order. It only reads "electric thing hit, that's the third time, SG dies", not "electric thing on the top level hit, SG dies" (ie, it doesn't keep track of which is which, just the total, and it zooms in on the electric things in the programmed order, the order you're supposed to do it in).

Therefore it probably doesn't kill him faster to hit the 3rd one early, but you never know. It's worth a shot, as stranger things have
happened.

EDIT: Looks like you didn't run into the gate to make it go up, it's time just ran out at the exactly right moment. I'd think that to repeat this, hit the bomb slot when Green SG is in the exact same spot.

EDIT: Now that I remember, you can't push the gate up from behind. I was thinking of when SG runs into the gate from behind it pushes it up. SG went through the gate as it was lowering, so this may have screwed up the game. All I can say is to try it again with various different things.
What I think is that since the game assumes you get SG to hit the electric generators in a specific order, when you hit the third one it will kill him, no matter what the health bar reads. The health bar may be there just to let the player know when he/she is getting close to the end of the fight. If we're able to do this, it would really improve speed runs.
100% speed trick located in Hall of Combat Mastery. If anyone here has ever tried to get the room's missile expansion from the exit of the puzzle, you'll have found a 3BJ just barely doesn't get the height to make it up. Well, I've found on an attempt at the next segment on my no-SJ run that if you use a 3BJ at just the right time, one of the room's Ingsmashers can smash the floor at the exact instant you reach the peak of your height. Ingsmashers suffer from the same glitch as Flaaghra, where it does knock the morph ball into the air, but will still knock it into the air even if the morph ball is already in the air. Using this extra boost you can make it up through the back, saving the time it costs to do the spiderball puzzle. Unfortunately, due to the random nature of Ingsmashers, the segment would be random as well, so a warning to anyone who wishes to attempt this in a 100% run: do not have a long segment before this. Try it at the beginning of a segment, where you don't have to do much over if you mess up. Alternately, I think it's possible to SA into the morph ball hole and get it that way. This is just another way to do that.
Speed Trick: Transport B Access (Great Temple) Missile Expansion.  One can ghetto off either side and up into the hole (requires SJ).  A DBJ is enough to get an instant unmorph, but a BSJ has yet to be attained.

Future edit: Found by Sparky as silent ((((echo)))) says below http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=84129#84129  Oh well.  (I did check his 100% run, the wiki, and ran some searches before posting though.)
Unfortunately, this trick has already been found by Sparky.
can see why you people want speed tricks on the site. ;P
Agon Temple: When you beat Bomb Guardian, the game creates the morph ball bombs, then moves you. So if you're standing where the morph ball bombs will be, you will get them without having to go forward for them. Saves about one second.
It also works with boost ball and grapple beam, never been able to do it with SJ boots.
turns out you can boost onto the ring in main gyro chamber instead of unmorphing and remorphing:

http://www.metroid2002.com/grenola/mgc_boost_enc.avi
windchamber: it is possible to get the light burst faster. first enter the door (not the power bomb door) then walk forward, you have the windows on the right side. go out side and look at the roof it looks like it is impossible to jump up there but look at the left side, you see that it is a spot you can land on. do a 2bj-bs jump and then screw attack to light burst.
