I am going to go with individuals. Smart, tecno-advance, skilled and deadly. All that is themselves just Ridley or whomever is using that from them.

That would involve me -not- being lazy wouldn't it? Anyways the chances of Space Pirates having hive minds is very slim due to their technology which one of them had to invent or come up with.
