I think I'll just go kill the slave guy and be done with it.  I came very close to killing him on my last try.  Three attempts on midir and I haven't made a scratch.
I mean he wouldn't be the first Souls overworld dragon that doesn't become a boss, and if you play through it blindly you woudn't know

Melee isn't useless, he just has very narrow windows of opportunity to hit him. He's the kind of boss that's annoying before you completely figure him out and becomes pretty tame after you do.
Also yes, your build is pretty ideal for Midir. It'd be pretty hard to find something more damaging than Sunlight Straight Sword + Lightning Weapon on a quality/faith build
meh...I think I'm just over it at this point.  I don't feel like fighting him a million times until I get that one lucky fight where he inexplicably decides to just let me hit him in the head a few times, then runs away, then actually lets me approach to hit him in the head a few more times, repeat.  I just watched a melee fight where that's what happens, and unless there's something the player can do to make the dragon behave that way then it seems like pure luck to me.  The dragon's tail goes right through him without hitting him, hardly moves around at all, and basically just gives himself to the guy.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Midir will cooperate with you if you stay in front of him, dodge backwards. His attacks, once you know his combos will all leave his head open for a hit after he's done. His AOE where he breathes straight down is easier to escape if you just run back instead of to the side or under him, but do move to the side after a bit in case it turns into the laser. That's largely it. Stay in his face, he'll be less annoying. He still kinda sucks no matter what you're doing, but your build is pretty much ideal for this fight.

Someone made an item randomizer mod for Dark Souls I.

Too bad I don't have time to play this. I've wanted to play Dark Souls randomized for a long time.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I'd mess wit hit but it pushes a bit beyond what I am comfortable doing as far as installing a thing that would make me have to consider caring about items in Crystal Cave. :v
Crystal Cave isn't that bad if you know what you're doing.

Your opportunity to get familiar with the place!
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I have collected every item in that place exactly once. The invisible path to the Blue Titanite Slab can go fuck itself!
I picked up a ps3 disc of DkS.  It feels weird to play this game on PS3 because I've only played it on xbox.

I decided to play through it without the DLC.  This is my third time playing it and I'm actually starting to remember the NPC's names and stories.  Kind of.  I'm sure I'll mess up all the questlines again.
Are you playing unpatched? I hear the original DkS without patches is really different.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
King of the Storm remains obnoxious and Nameless Kin remains a cool boss that makes me wish I was capable of being good at video games because it never looks as good as it should when I'm playing. Just me getting my ass kicked for an hour until I bumble through to victory. :/

I also had Champ Grundy dead on my second try this time but got the "You don't have the license for this DLC" pop up, kick to title screen bug. Then I ended up spending around an hour trying to remember how to fight him because I'm the sort of doofus that forgets how to play a video game while playing it somehow lol. Makes no damn sense but I do it all the time did against Nameless King as well. Confused

I'm running out of Not Pontiff bosses to fight. There's still the Ringed City bosses, but I don't like them much either outside the last one. I'm in quite a pickle. Hmmmmm.

No, definitely patched.

Did they change the covenant reward requirements in DS1?  I could have sworn that you needed to get 30 sunlight medals to get great lightning spear.  According to the wiki, it's just 10.  Same with the rewards for gravelord & darkmoon.  You only need 10.  Am I insane?
might be correct. you're probably confusing great lightning spear with sunlight spear, which is a higher tiered reward. gravelord reards are cheap as far as I can remember. dunno about darkmoon
sunlight spear requires a boss soul, I believe.

The only rewards for 30 trade ins I think are the pyromancy you get from quelaag sister and the dark sword from darkwraith cov.
For some reason I was sure that you needed 30 sunlight medals to get great lightning spear in dks1
It's interesting to go from ds3 to ds1 because you can really get a good sense for how much they improved things.  The flaws in ds1 aren't apparent when you play it for the first time, but they're def there.  The thing that's pissing me off right now is the direction of rolling is crazy in ds1.  In ds3, you just pushed the direction you want to roll and press the roll button.  In ds1, I find myself rolling in directions that I don't want to go in, esp when I'm locked onto a target.  It almost feels like you can only roll in 4 directions.  So frustrating.  The controls feel so much less responsive, too.
There are only 4 directions. One more reason to play unlocked!
Well that explains why it feels like there are only 4 directions to roll in when I'm locked lol.

Right now I can't figure out where to go after the hellkite dragon.  I got the mystery key, and can't figure out where to go next.  This also happened to me every other time I played.
>It almost feels like you can only roll in 4 directions.

I think that's how it works in DkS1
lol, sorry I thought serries was talking about directions as in paths towards somewhere
There are many options because it's not DS3! How about Catacombs first? That's always fun.
One shall stand, one shall ball.

And yet exactly one makes any kind of progress!
"Progress"? That's a weird way to spell fun
