Yeah, it's basically impossible in SMILE, but you actually can sorta make new enemies by copy-pasting different graphics and AI files from different species into one 'waste' file for an enemy nobody uses like those scattering bugs. Look at Metroid Limit in SMILE, specifically Tourian, to see what I'm talking about; some of those metroids aren't!
Yes a tile editor. Link for lazy pep Get one that support Snes,Nes and GB and you are good to go.
All of the graphics editors I have downloaded obfuscate most of the super metroid tiles, some tiles I can recognize, but they are in weird colors. It appears the graphics aren't being read properly. Is there something I'm missing?

You load a rom with all the GFX. How ever you can't load a pallet with it why? since it is not in the same place in all games. -.-' If you want the right pallet save stat a place with the pallet you need and load it.
What bank are the species in or are they just scattered about..? Since SMILE only has 4 numbers of hex for each specie how do I locate them, unless maybe someone has the bank to share? =]
Also the other day, I tried adding in more doors so I changed the Door Out pointer to some empty data, SMILE crashed and I opened it back up and it had given me 100 fresh doors(That's a bit excessive lol..). That would'nt have been too bad I guess but everytime I change a door to point to another room it won't remember it, having soo many must have screwed stuff up or I just completely did that wrong. Any way to limit it to only add a fixed amount or pretty much just one more?
Actually bank A0 is the Enemy population bank. which is entirely different from the Species bank. The population bank calls out pointers that reffer to the Species (or DNA) bank which I forget where it is, but a quick hex search for values seen in the DNA menu in smile will find it for you.
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
A0 is indeed the enemy species bank. I haven't messed with room population in hex at all, but according to a few of the documents, the room population is at bank A1.
Well, I really wanted to learn how SMILE works and so I can try my hand at editing Super Metroid, but I can't even get SMILE to load. Everytime I click on SMILE.exe it doesn't even load. Instead i get a message saying Run Time Error 76 - Path Not Found. Am i not doing something completely obvious?
Assuming you have v1.0 from Jathys' site and not .30 from romhacking.net it should work fine right? Sorry I know nothing about that stuff but maybe that helps.. somehow..
Oops, it's Zophar's Domain that has the .30 version.
