Thanks. What is the proper sequence?  Am I meant to get screw attack before or after space jump?  Is the way I am trying to to it a sequence break?
It's intended after space jump. I've always gotten space jump first.  I've seen TAS's of people getting it early with a shinespark, but I can't remember if anyone actually does it as non-TAS.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Yes, some of us do.  It is a sequence break.  Which part are you struggling with?  Is it sparking in mid-air?  Is it sparking in the right place?  Or is it sparking back out?
Sparking in mid air is my problem.  I am able to charge the shine by holding run, pressing jump, and the direction but this button sequence is not working for me while in the air.  Can a shine be performed in both a straight fall/jump or do you need to somersault....appreciate the help.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
For mid-air sparking, a somersault is required, but the run button is not, so remove that from the equation to simplify it for a bit.  To mid-air spark, you need to be somersaulting, then break the spin (by pressing up or one of the shoulder buttons), then press AND HOLD (hold is for ease) jump, then press the direction you need.  In order, I somersault, press up, press and hold jump, press left / right.

Only once you're sparking do you need to hold run to continue chaining it on slopes.
What'd you say?
Wait, wait, wait:

Yay for putting rom-hacks on cartridges!  I'd never seen people selling them openly before.  Talk about indiscretion.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I hope they don't, but I can see them getting the usual Cease and Decist.  It says at the bottom that they've only been going since some point in 2012.  Fingers crossed.
Is there a patch out there that makes CF work for Redesign? I saw earlier in the thread that the controls don't work very well for it anyways.
Can anyone confirm that the cartridge linked above works?
I'm sure it does, but I still don't know why anyone would pay for a game that's already free.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
It's usually to be able to play it on the original hardware, and is for the purists out there.

As for whether it works: Yes, it does, though you may wish to wait for Axeil Edition, which irons out some of the harder bits that put players off.
I just really enjoyed playing this and appreciate the work that went in.  Even if he doesnt see a dime I am buying it to support the cause.  Also, I am looking forward to playing it on SNES.  Quietus, cool that Axeil will address some of the issues but I enjoyed how hard the grapple parts were.  I will re-visit just to see how it was adjusted but the difficulty level is what drew me to this hack in the first place. Thanks for the info.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Oh, don't worry.  It's still a while away yet, so feel free to crack on with the original. aiwebs_004
What'd you say?
I finally decided to invest the 67$ (after shipping) on the cartridge I linked. Their site said they have to make every one from scratch so it'll take 4-6 weeks, which sucks, but oh well. I'll let you guys know how well it works when it arrives. I can't wait! Too bad I have to though. Brick wall

I'm also curious if Time Walk Games pays royalties to Drewseph or if they just use his hack for their own gains.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I very much doubt there are any payments for hack creators.  For starters, lots of them from way back would be impossible to contact.
What'd you say?
Good point. Besides, a hack isn't technically original content anyway so I don't feel they would even by entitled to acquire payments.

Finally beat this hack 100% and animals saved. One of the best fucking accomplishments I've ever did!! Many thanks to danidub for the map and Quietus for the IBJ video!!

Sadly the cost of doing this damage my gold wii classic controller due to anger and frustration of collecting pickups. =(

I really enjoyed this hack a lot drewseph. As I can see a lot of effort was put into this to make this unique, challenging, and enjoyable for everyone who thought the original version was too easy. The items were very well hidden and I like how you improved the Space Jump controls a lot from the original and the new Speed Booster moves from Fusion and Zero Mission.  The escape sequence at the end was soo intense. Enough to keep people's faces closer to the screen.

Likes:
- The enormous redesigned environments in every new area and new puzzles.
- More shots can be shot at a time just like Zero Mission.
- The scavenger hunt for chozo guardians.

Dislikes:
- Some of the optional pickups in this game are just too hard to collect for its own good... For example: There are 2 areas that had me screaming with frustration because of required IBJ.

There is a power bomb in this area where you have to shoot a super missile where the arrow is pointing at. It took like an hour to collect due to a background that covered up Samus while bomb jumping and its a looong way up. Its probably not that I just wish IBJ was a little easier.

I'm not sure this was intended but if you touch this ceiling of this block right here it will allow you to stand up between the tunnels. (Glitch perhaps?)

I haven't tried it but from I've seen from another video it looks like you have to plant a bomb near that upper ledge up there to make it which looks like a pain to me which I would stick to the glitch I've discovered.

Next the speed boost segments to get pickups are frustrating. This isn't the fact how slopes are to keep your shinespark but the fact that Samus runs so fast in this game it give me a lot of less reaction to stop so I suggest some of the slopes should be longer. There are 2 pickups are examples of this.
1.There is a super missile near the elevator that goes to Brinstar in Crateria. Well some of the slopes are not that small but it can be still a hand full since it the route while speed boosting is long.

2.(The one that damaged my controller due to anger) There is a power bomb in an area near where you have to fight Botwoon to get Space Jump. The some of the slopes like I said before are too small and gives you less reaction time to stop.

- The X-Ray Scope is nearly useless. A lot of hidden passages to go through areas that are required to find to progress through the game cannot be seen with X-Ray Scope therefore you have to touch every wall, ceiling, etc. to find out if its something you can go through which took a lot of time.

- I didn't like how Plasma Beam was the last upgrade to get in the game after you beat every boss. After you have literally been through everything without it why would we need this now??

I would also like to report another glitch

If you put your morph ball right at this area you will be permanatly stuck. I know there is nothing here but you may never know if some wandering like me is going to be suspicious about stuff!

Anyways that's it thank you for making this hack Drew. Like I said before I've enjoyed this and hopefully will make a 100% video play through of this sometime. 9/10
Hi there,

first of all I have to say that I really love this hack - this is probably the best user designed modification of a game I've ever seen.

Unfortunately I dont't have enough time to play regulary so I will never be that good at it. Because of that and definitely because of some lack of skill I never could manage to do some special techniques, such as ibj or recharge the shinespark.

Maybe somebody can give me a link to a thread/webpage where the speedbooster usage is explained. I already read that you can use slopes to recharge it but I was never able to do it as described. Also the short charge would be very interesting because I really try to beat this game with 100% items, not caring about the time.

Does anybody have a video of a LP or speedrun with 100%? I can only find runs with any% on the video platforms. That would be very useful.

Thx in advance,
Michael

Here's a vid to know how to IBJ.

As far as speed boosting, are you holding the run button? You still have to hold the run button and the d-pad left or right of which direction you a facing when you hit a slope to keep your charge.

Well currently I'm posting my 100% run vids of this game here http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL26sGnuKr5mwHzQ7DfBD0_UCEOPcjoWAq
I finished it but I just need time to post the rest of these vids.
Thank you for your reply Super KB,

unfortunatelly the video how to IBJ does not help me hat much. I've watched a couple of videos about IBJ now but I cannot get the right timing. I think that I'm doing something basically wrong: There are so many videos of speedruns where bored ppl do a IFB or even vertical IFB to waste time, e.g. while they are waiting for a boss to die. So if ppl can do it that easily there has to be a certain trick I miss...

My problem concerning speed boosting is the following: 1 out of 5 times I can get from the shinespark back to running by keeping the charge. The other 4 times I can manage to interrupt the flight and get back to normal but I loose my charge on that. I guess it is because I dont press down fast enough to safe the charge after I got back to run mode. Another problem is that I am not sure when to press which key for shinesparking. What do you have to press while you are charged to do a regular jump in one direction and what to press for a shinespark in that direction? It seems to be quiet random for me...

Thanks so much for the link to your videos on youtube. I will carefully watch all of them when you are finished with uploading. I do like that style that you don't cut off all these small mistakes you make while playing. This way I feel much more comfortable watching you and trying to get 100% by myself because all that overoptimized speedruns seem to be much too far away from what I will ever be able to achieve in this game.

Thx & regards,
Michael

First let go of the d-pad and tap the jump button. You'll notice that Samus's animation is get ready to set off. Then hold either left or right and then press the jump button to take off in that direction. To go diagonal, press L or R or whatever button you have set for Samus to aim diagonally. If you are trying to boost in the air make sure you do a flip first to do it. I had the same trouble with this on the original SM.

As far a IBJ I can't tell much because I suck at explaining things. Just watch the video carefully and pay attention of how he lays his bombs. Its not easy as it may seem but with a little paticence and practice it should be a breeze.

And thanks for taking the time to watch my vids. =) However the future videos  I will be posting will show how to get the Screw Attack early. Just please keep in note that its not required the next thing until
Space Jump.
The route I take after getting Screw Attack will not be required until later on in Maridia. I only collected it to get more advantage of collecting items.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
For doing the IBJ, check my original video for it.  The one SKB linked was the second one I did, which was more to show the placement of the bombs without the screen scrolling upward than for the technique itself.

Regarding shinesparking, it's much easier to spark horizontally by just holding the jump button.  In short, run, press down, press and hold jump, press the direction you're facing.  Done.
For diagonal, just hold aim up, and press jump.
To do so in mid-air, somersault, break the spin by pressing up, aim up, or aim down (I find pressing up to be easier), then do the above.
To maintain your spark's charge, the key thing to remember is to always hold run.  Run, press down, horizontal spark, then just keep hold of both run and the direction you're heading.  When you hit the ramp, you should still be holding forward and run.  Now you can sprint for as long as you like until you press down to charge again.  Then just repeat.

On a slightly different note regarding shinesparking, it may also depend on which emulator you're using.  Are you using snes9x?  If so, you may have to set your controller up to include the diagonals.  I had a nightmare shinesparking in snes9x until I did so, and now it works fine.  I can't see why this should have made a difference, but it did.
@Super KB:
Kk, I'll try that. What would I have to do to move "normally" while charged (not to activate shinespark)? You know, there are a lot of items in that game you can only get if you "save" your charge while moving around until you reach a certain place.

I am really looking forward to watching your other videos. I read in the comments of a different speedrun video that the early Screw Attack is one of the hardest things in this game because you only have like 0.15 seconds left in the whole sequence even if perfectly timed.

@Quietus:
My emulator is zsnes. One interesting thing about it is that I have problems with walljumps using my gamepad (Logitech F510, diagonals included in the emu setup). With the pad I miss like every third walljump, with my keyboard I can easily do 10 in a row. Maybe i should try to do the other stuff also by keyboard...

Thx & regards,
Michael

Just make sure you don't accidentaly press jump button while moving. If you need to reach somewhere if it requires for you to jump, do a flip by pressing left or right then the jump button to keep yourself from boosting off. I hope all this helps!
