Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!

I LOVE this hack, so much that I am thinking about planning speed run for it.
I'm currently doing a 100% run, but I'd be interested in any suggestions you may have, unless you're going for an any% run.

I hope Damski is playing this and is going to make a map for it.

OK I found space jump but I can't figure out how to get to it. Hint, please?

EDIT:  NVM, sheesh.

It's funny how something so simple can throw us off that much, isn't it? I got stuck there too for a few minutes and felt the same way once I realized what you need to do to get it.

Haha, I got al the way to the farther point and just noticed you had to shot through fool x-ray blocks.
3:24, 91%.  It took me a while to find draygon, found all items except for ice-beam.  I decided against noob-bridging the x-ray early and picked it up before tourian.  I believe I was nearly permastuck when getting speedbooster.  I was very low energy and used the last of my ammo to reach it.  Luckily I had some reserve tanks full.

Aside from a few tile errors here and there the rooms look great.  I like the idea of going through original rooms backwards, they felt different, but familiar.  I personally lost my flow and got thoroughly lost in norfair, a few gray door were opened when the rooms were cleared and I got back on track.  Not having ice made tourian irritating from the lack of power bombs.  I had to return to the ship 3 or 4 times to clear all the metroids.  I did like the little changes to the escape, I must have hit every dead end possible and made it out with <10 seconds left.  Though ammo tanks gave less, I was never strapped for ammo except maybe on ridley and the tourian.  I felt like I had an abundance of energy tanks in relation to missiles which seemed weird.

Overall, a solid hack, more evidence you don't need new graphics and tweaks to make something enjoyable.

So you must have done a pretty fancy wall-jump to get by the part that should have required Ice Beam??

I had to do a tall ibj to get space jump, but that was the only thing that looked like it might have required it.

IBJ, indeed. aiwebs_004

All I did to get Space jump was freeze the flying enemies with Ice beam.

I think I found Ice in like...after Draygon? No thats Wave :L I forget but I got the Ice after it. Trying to remember.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
The Ice Beam is:
In GT's room, which you need the Wave Beam to access.  The entrance is just to the right of the entrance to Lower Norfair / Ridley.
I didnt even think of doing an IBJ there, but I did attempt the wall jump.  There was another place in maridia where there was a pretty tricky wall jump that I actually did pull off, only to find out that that same area is accessible without having to do the walljump in the first place.
I want to do a 100% run after I finish this game today.  Does anyone know what the max missiles, supers, etc is for 100%?
Yoshi is back
OHHHH right, Golden Torizo. Forgot about him. Thinking of doing a :03 run 11% on my hack.
I also have to say that I love the way that screw attack works a little differently in this hack.  In the original, it's pretty much the 'fuck you' of all weapons and completely wastes everything.  This one seems to do less damage, so you can use it like evasion in Eris sometimes.  I like it.

At work at the moment - I'll check later.  Off the top of my head it's:
100, 15, 05

The only one I'm really iffy on is the Missiles, but I'll update this post as soon as I'm home.

Well I finally finished it.  6:25 95%.  I spent alot of time scanning with x-ray, which could have easily added an hour or more.  Now I know a little better than to rely on it so much, since this hack definitely has places where x-ray is ineffective anyways.  I'm going to start a new playthrough, this time being careful not to fill in places in the map which show items that I haven't obtained, since pouring over the map for such places was my main way of trying to clean up missed items.  I wasn't about to revisit every single dot on the map that was covered in pink just to see if I really got it or not.  I still maintain that this map seems to be at least twice the size of the original, does anyone agree?  I think I had 90 missiles, 14 supers, 5 PB's, and was missing one e-tank.  This accounts for 4 missing items, so I;m either incorrect about what I actually had or the last item counts as 2%.
Does anyone have regular contact with Danidub who could ask him if he has tried this hack yet and/or if he plans on making a map?  His are the best, would love to have one for this game.

OK, so now on to my mini-review:

PROS:

The map layout of this game seemed well thought out, even as well as the original ROM.  I thoroughly enjoyed playing this hack.  There were no rooms where I had any trouble distinguishing foreground from background, nor were there any parts where I scratched my head wondering WTF to do next.  There was always at least one path open, which made the game flow nicely.  6+ hours is a long time to play a hack, and I never got bored!  The game flowed at at even pace as well, which I again attribute to a well-thought out layout.  The backtracking never seemed like a chore.  The designer knew which areas you would have to revisit, and placed goodies along the way that he knew you wouldn't be able to get the first time you went through that area, giving you a sense of progress even though you were backtracking.  The changes to screw attack were great.  The map data rooms were so helpful, and were never placed too close to the entrance of a new area, and they also didn't show EVERYTHING, so you got the thrill of discovery when finding new areas even after you had uploaded the map data.  There were just so many things that MADE SENSE, as if the designer was able to get into the head of the general player, and not just his own head and his own way of thinking.  The less-is-more simplicity of the room design was spot-on, just like the original.

CONS:

There were a few bugs, most notably in the escape sequence.  The first time I entered Crateria and went to the right, I ended up doing a wrap around and re-emerging through the left side of the screen, getting stuck in midair and having to reload a save state. There were also some map glitches when I re-entered wrecked ship, even though I never reloaded from a save station or the ship - I always used save states. Other than that, I really don't have any major gripes here.  Excited to play it all over again, which I plan to do right now.  Thanks Nevyn193!  Hope to see more from you.

EDIT: Actually planning a low% run.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
That's my first planned 100%, Dave, so I may better it yet.  Nothing wrong with a little competition, though. aiwebs_004

Opium: Final percentage has not been altered to reflect new expansion numbers, so
46 Missile tanks = 92 Missiles, 15 Supers, and 5 Power Bombs.  All the rest of the stuff is the standard amounts.

DAMNIT! I missed 10 missiles and 3 E-tanks. T.T. I just got my REAL results cuz I actually found out through LN, and I got 3:50 and 87%. T.T.

Oh right, wheres Plasma?
What's T.T. ?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I think it's a text style emoticon, representing crying.

Dave: Plasma is
In the top left-hand corner of Maridia, in the Turtle room.  Defeating Draygon opens the door, so you can get it straight after getting the Wave Beam.

Go to the cheats menu in your emu, and add the Action Replay code 7E09CE01.  It'll put your Power Bombs at 1.  Just remember to remove / disable it afterward.

No thanks, I just died and re-beat Phantoon (In progress as he is almost dead) and I'll get Speed booster and savestate BEFORE I go through Grapple beam death.

EDIT: BOOM! and a Super to end Phantoons life. 2 more bosses left, Ridley and Draygon. Ridley will be hard to beat in a low% run. I'm hoping to only have 4-6 E-tanks by then.

EDIT2: Got the Speedbooster, finally successful, I have 255 energy left :)

EDIT3: This is pissing me off, Botwoon is demolishing me. I have 3 E-tanks and everytime I take a step he runs into me and kills me, this is fuckin Impossible.

EDIT4: I take that back, I just fucked him over ;) Beat him and claimed Varia.

EDIT5: About to enter Ridley's lair with 3 E-tanks, wish me luck :P (I have Plasma)

EDIT6: I'm at ridley with 3 E-Tanks with plasma and I'm still getting my ass tossed. I'll have to give 'er a go later on.
