In my humble opinion they were very wise in skipping the N64, as far as Metroid is concerned.
I would have to agree: Even though it was a pain having to wait as long as we did, I feel that the wait was well worth it. I think it was what Metroid needed, gameplay wise. I wonder how they would've pulled off some of the things that have been included if we had only waited about 3-4 years after Super.
Also, by remembering how Samus looked in Super Smash Bros for the N64 (Not very good in my opinion), this adds to my approval for waiting until the cube for another Metroid.
For those who are interested, here's a shot of the german package, where you can clearly see the "Nur PAL 60Hz" ("PAL 60Hz only") warning. German packshot
IMO, this 60Hz release will be the initial release but a couple or few months down the track a 50Hz version will be released like it would've if things were done the old way. I think it's just the fact that Nintendo and Retro recognise the fact that gamers want it NOW not 5 months after the folks in the US get it. Those few who don't have a 60Hz TV available will have to wait I guess... doesn't sound very fair in one way but in another way it's great cause it's cutting that gap between release dates.
seeing as it means we wont have to wait until next year for the pal release, i'm all for it.
the 3 tvs i have access to, all support 60hz. hopefully ninty will continue to do this. it eradicates any shitty excuses for delayed pal conversions (animal crossing was a goddamned joke)
Going from importing from Japan to waiting like 2 years later for PAL would probably make me say screw gaming. I know you can buy converter crap, but that's a lot of converter crap, and not many places sell to EU I don't think.
I still believe that Metroid Prime 2 Echoes will also get an 50 herz version. Not in the first release but i think that at least the Players choice version will have a 50 hz.
I really hope that, so everyone can play this amazing game
