According to this Swedish gaming site called GAMECore.se Metroid Prime 2 PAL can't be played in the European standards 50Hz.

Quote from Gamecore.se:
Det marknadsföringsmaterial som Nintendo of Europe har skickat ut för Metroid Prime 2: Echoes varnar för att spelet endast stöder 60hz.

Varför de inte kan stödja båda 50- och 60hz verkar konstigt. Det känns lite som om Nintendo skjuter sig i foten här. Det är i och för sig på tiden att hela PAL-maknaden övergår till 60hz i väntan på nästa standard.

Uppdatering: Ja. Publicerade omslagsbilder visar en tydlig varning med texten "PAL 60hz only".

which basically translates into "blahblahblah 60Hz only".

Fuck off, Nintendo.

flickerbat off, Nintendo.
Hmmm... I wouldn't be affected by it. I've got a 60Hz enabled PAL TV.
However, I fully agree with you that if it is true it would be a very poor decision. Not everybody is on 60Hz yet. They're shooting themselves in the foot with this.
Is it just me or are all gaming companies making the most lousy of decisions lately?
Dude, where are you from?:

I'm Dutch, btw. I have no knowledge of any of the Scandinavian languages... ;)
pmg een nederlander :o

never mind me :P
It already freaked me of, that the Zelda bonus disk that came with Wind Waker didn't support 50Hz, but it was just a Bonus, so I could accept it. I seriously doubt, that this is a good thing to do with a game like MP2, even if it results in an earlier release in Europe, since not anyone has a 60Hz compatible TV. Luckily for me, I can play in 60Hz mode on my GameCube, which (for some reason) I can't do on my PS2.
i wish i could help somehow.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Isn't 60 better than 50?

Well, yes. Better. Easier on the eyes. The thing is, not everyone owns a 60Hz PAL TV yet. It would mean having to invest several hundred bucks at least on a new TV set. And not everybody has that kind of cash. Or is willing to spend hundreds of bucks just to be able to play MP2.
It's like having to buy a whole new monster PC just to play the latest PC games.
But yes, 60Hz is far better ofcourse. More stable image, just easier on the eyes.
It's like Valve forcing the internet in Half-Life 2, except not as bad. DIE VALVE!

Forcing the Internet? Haven't touched HL2, so... I don't know. Is it Net play only or something?
You have to like register on the internet or something like that. :x

I too was VERY annoyed with this when I first heard it, but then I realised the benefits it also carrys (for the speed running community). The PAL 60Hz release WILL be identical to the US release as the dates are SO short apart. This means that all speed runs can FINALLY be bloody compared at last, without any bendezium nonsence!

Granted, not EVERYONE has a 60Hz compatible TV (and I've had to buy a new 60Hz compatible capture card for the site because of it), but as my Nintendo UK contact says, most people these days SHOULD have a TV capable of PAL 60Hz. Granted, less TV's can take an NTSC 60Hz signal, but PAL 60Hz should be fine in this day and age for the majority. And really, why would you still want to use a TV that must be around 10 years old if it doesn't support it? Even cheap portables came with PAL 60Hz support years ago...

If it means getting the game before xmas WITHOUT any stupid friggin changes, then I'm all for it.
I have a 15 year old tv, which works perfectly, and I don't have the moulah for a new one. So now I'm stuck at playing MP2 at my little brothers room, or downstairs. Which sucks, because I am no good at all at remembering where to go and stuff, so I need a walktrough, and my room is the only one where a PC is close to a TV, and printing 50 pages is not an option. :P
The cynical view ofcourse would be to say that the only reason this has been decided upon by Retro/Nintendo is that they are too lazy to convert it to 50Hz.
And yes, I do see the advantages it could bear on the speedrunning community.
However, Smops just proved my point. Not everyone can afford a new TV set. And so they either are doomed to play it one someone else's TV or not play it at all. So, no matter how you look at it, this decision will have serious implications for the number of people that can actually play the game. In the sense as that less people will be able to. I for one, can play it. And, one of the posses we saw in that reason Nintendo Power spoiler (the really BIG boss - no, not naming him on purpose) has me curious enough to buy the game.

Until they release a "Player's Choice" version a year later to plug all the holes we've found.
Yeah, but how many of us would've gotten it before that? (Like me for example :D)

In screen refresh rate, yes. In resolution, no. PAL has 28% better vertical resolution than NTSC, thus much nicer looking picture.

PAL 60Hz is not different there than PAL 50Hz. Not that I know, anyhow. The only difference between the two is the 10Hz. So...
Meh, I have a new-ish TV so I won't be affected. If this means it gets released in Europe sooner, I'm all for it.  :D
Hey! I can translate! Whee, translating is fun!

The marketing material Nintendo of Europe have sent out for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is warning that the game will only support 60hz.

Why they can't support both 50 and 60hz seems strange. It feels a bit like Nintendo are shooting themselves in the foot with this.  On the other hand, it's about time the entire PAL market does a transition to 60hz while waiting for the next standard.

Update: Yes. Revealed cover images show a clear warning saying "PAL 60hz only".

Well, that kinda sucks... For some of us. Not me, though.
