EDIT:  Wassup Dawgs still has working random avatars...  Wonder what site he uses...

You'll NEVER guess...

Cool, thanks...if I can find a new place to host, then it'll be awesome again.  My brother keeps asking "who's the idiot with the Camilla avatar here?"  I don't have the heart to tell him it's me.

Hmm, FreeWebTown does indeed not seem to work. And since Cutandpastescripts doesn't work here, I suppose I will have to keep my old av/sig until my own webspace starts working.

Lol, nate, it's so wierd seeing your random avatar change again each page. It's been a while...
*Edit-bump that Monster explained*

Hey, if you guys need space for your avatars/sigs, I got a whole mess of space and subdomains that you could have.

it would be you.spjclan.com, and as long as you guys dont upload 100 megs of videos or something then you guys could have them. I dont really care what you put on them as long as it isnt child porn or something.

Its been 100% uptime on my site for the past 5 months, so you dont have to worry about that.

If you want to take me up on my offer just PM me or catch me on my AIM, StarmanHaxor537, or MSN, Starmanhaxor@hotmail.com.

-----------------------------------------

EDIT: Ok, well, in a recent turn of events, I now have in my possession a 25 gb storage account with 100 gb bandwidth, and unlimited subdomains/ftp accounts/mysql databases. So if you want space for storage or a website just PM me.

Any filetype accepted as long as it isn't child porn or something.
How many pictures to choose from in a random avatar is too many pictures?  Is there even a limit?  Or is there a point where it ceases to be cool because nobody will ever see all of them?
http://nate.metroid2002.com/avatars/

I think that should answer your question.  >_>
Shocked

Anyways, I've been having a problem.  I've been using my M2K2 space to host my random sigs, but I'd love to have my random avatars back as well, because I've added a few.

So naturally, my thought was to make a folder in my M2K2 space, copy the random avatar program into there, rename it, then put all my avatars in there.  But when I link to the avatar.jpg file for use as my avatar, it says there's no data available at the location I specified.  I tried everything I could think of.

I've tried/given up twice...  And when I go to delete the folder full of avatars, it won't delete the folder because it can't delete the .htaccess file which disappeared after I renamed it.  Nate deleted it for me both times...  And I'm through bugging the poor man, he's helped me an incredible amount.

So I thought I'd come here and ask for help.  Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
So how do we use the new one? Re-download the zip file and replace the files with whats in the zip?
Alright, I've re-downloaded the zip into an avatars fodler in my M2K2 space and extracted the files to there as well...  I'm about to rename the .htaccess file.  See if it works this time...

Edit:  Nope.  Still gives the same message.  "The file at the URL you gave contains no data"

Just to make sure, the URL I'd be giving my profile section would be

http://www.metroid2002.com/deathnoble/avatars/avatar.jpg

right?

Which option in Profile are you changing? One that I chose was saying no data (from a URL), but I put the url of avatar.jpg in the 'Link to off-site Avatar' window and it works.

You've capitalized the a, so it's supposed to be
http://www.metroid2002.com/deathnoble/Avatars/avatar.jpg
Which works for me.
Edit:  Holy crap, that's all it took?

Dude, this seriously the first time I've ever encountered a place where capitalization matters.  I feel like beating myself up for not realizing how simple the solution turned out to be.

Thank you guys.  I really appreciate it.
Everything on the internet save the base url (MeTrOiD2002.CoM or something) is case sensitive.

Nah, just stuff hosted on *nix type file systems. Which is pretty much everything, of course...
直死の魔眼使い
Nope; believe it or not, URLs on IIS-based systems are also case sensitive. This was proven to me during a web programming exam I had to do in ASP.NET/C#, where no matter how many times I wrote the localhost URL it would end up in a 404, until I actually checked the folder and found the name had been typed in all caps. I lost 15% of the points for making the teacher waste his time that time. -_-

Something is still not working, even though I now use my own hosting service: http://www.karlstrom.se/kenny/avatar/avatar.jpg
It's the .htaccess, it's not supposed to show.

But I uploaded it and renamed it, then it disappeared... ohwaitasecondhere.

*does something*

Nope, still no go. I don't get it... I have my avatar images in a folder on my webspace. To the same folder, I upload DELETE_THIS_PART_BEFORE_THE_PERIOD.htaccess and avatar.jpg. I rename DELETE_THIS_PART_BEFORE_THE_PERIOD.htaccess to .htaccess.

What the hell is it that isn't cooperating here?
Are you using some FTP program you downloaded? It works for me in Explorer.
Viking

Yes, I'm uploading the files via FTP... the FTP function in Total Commander.

Well, the browser file manager supposedly works with FTP as well, but eh...
直死の魔眼使い
First things first: The .htaccess file isn't supposed to be normally viewable in a file browser, although you can retrieve it normally through commands if you know it's there. Secondly, the script, as you might have already seen, is in PHP, and if I know my computers and servers, that's a Windows IIS File Listing screen there, and IIS doesn't have native support for PHP (not even M$'s very own ASP runs properly on IIS without the aid of a few modules). Your service provider might have the PHP IIS module installed, but if they don't, your webspace is, as it stands right now, as good as nothing, when it comes to using the script.

The hosting has PHP, it was listed on the site... oh well, I'm too tired for this right now.

And while I can't see the .htaccess file in Total Commander, it's visible in the hosting browser control panel file manager.

not even php runs under apache except as a module. :P but i guess, yeah, php isn't from apache, while asp and iis both originated somewhere in the murky bowels of the beast.

Yeah, I asked that a while back and even thought I've seen how many Nate has in total...  If I get waaaaaaay up there in numbers, I'm confidant a mod/admin will let me know before I hit the point of "too many" right?
