This run entails that you do NOT complete the game. You had assumed and had taken over that you need to break the rules of this challenge to beat the game, which isn't the intention.
Ok. I'd just never heard of the NO-fair run. (Get it? NO Norfair=NO-fair.) And once you're done with the NOfair challenge, (I'd heard, "try beating zm with the items you have from the nbmb run") try beating the game with the items from the run, no others. Or don't, I don't really care. LC
I don't think anybody had heard of this run before, as Endarire only posted it a short while ago. Perhaps somebody had thought to do it before, but I don't recall it ever being mentioned.
I didn't read to much of this as I don't really have the time to, but someone says it is impossible to get to Draygon without said items? I'm pretty sure you can wall jump there, especially if you have the gravity suit. I'm sure I am missing something, so what is it?
I think the only thing that stops you is the room before Botwoon with the mocktroids. Normally you need the speed booster to get through it, but there's also the trick with the ice beam where you can jump through one of the pipes by freezing a mocktroid in the right place. Since both of those items are in Norfair there's no way to get through the room, which is on the only path to Draygon.
I was going to say I'd play it again, but I just recalled what you are talking about. Forgot about that room. Well, we can get the X-Ray right? So, can you not X-Ray climb someplace? Perhaps the door leading into the room or the one in the room below?
No, you can't. In order to X-ray climb, you need to get wedged in something below where you're trying to get to, and since there's nothing but a few blocks below the door you need (none of which you can get to either), it's impossible to X-ray climb to the door.
While we're at it, is it required to have a speed booster to climb? If I had access to a computer and such, I would try myself. I know you say to get to said door, but I should have been more clear. Is there any door that gives you access at all to any room after said room that you can climb in? I'm sure with Kej's game genie code, someone could figure it out, or PAR w/e. I know my face isn't shown here much, but if I don't know something, I'll ask. Just know I'm not a newbie to this forum nor Super Metroid.
No, it's not possible. I'm not sure how much you know about the build of the game. Essentially, each room is a completely separate area, and when you go through a door it loads the next area (room). When you are in that room with the mocktroids, that is the entirety of the 'area' you are in, and there are no other rooms / doors except what you see. If you did manage to X-ray climb anywhere in that room, you would just wrap around the same 16-tile-high space you have on-screen. Essentially, since there's nothing below the door you need to get to, there's nowhere to get stuck, and therefore no way to climb up to the door.
I'll try it later just for my own testing. It's not that I believe you guys didn't do any testing, but I'd like to know for myself. You can never say impossible with this game, there's always a way to break it.
Hehe, perhaps I didn't explain clearly enough, but feel free to test, though I'd be interested to know how you intend to X-ray climb UP TO the door when there's nowhere below the door to X-ray FROM.
If you're talking about what happens in the glitched TAS run, that's a very specific glitch, which would likely be impossible to recreate on a console. He's deliberately causing the game to throw random crap into the game's SRAM, to have a door that doesn't exist, appear. This is used to activate the trigger for the escape sequence.
For specifics on that glitch, you'd probably be better off asking at TASvideos, as beyond understanding WHAT is happening, I have no idea as to the HOW.
Ok so, I am sure this has been tested but if you go into the door below the left side of the room, you can either be under the room or in a long corridor that can lead to a duplicate of the lower room. If you see the mocktroid room and move left I believe and fall in the door, you will be in the room below again. Either that or it was jump, pretty sure fall because I did it on accident. If you are able to reach a duplicate room of the mocktroids and be on the right side, just go in front of the door in which you are entering and use either R or L and shoot a missle, probably a super and the door will open.
Now, this isn't all that special within itself. If thoroughly investigated, it would probably just lead to nothing but may lead to something. I know if you can see the room below, as in go into the upper room, jump all the way up to the door and go back down to the other room, if you go all the way up, the game freezes. Doubt there's anything useful here either.
Again, nothing special. Something I did find out, which again I have no idea if anyone knew, if you save in say Brinstar, reload, then run back down to Maridia and try this, you will likely have different results. I've done this with the room to the right of the room below the mocktroids. If you save nearby, you can't go up more than a single room and sometimes, you can but the game will freeze. If you start in Brinstar, you can explore up there and I think go into duplicate rooms.
I believe that with enough testing, someone could come up with a hidden door or a way to enter other rooms that aren't normally supposed to be allowed or aren't even on the same map. Someone like Kej.
I think perhaps you could in fact enter the room if you are able to get stuck on the right side of the room below the mocktroids rather than the left, but I can't manage to since there is no platform. I am sure someone has tested this as well.
Just trying to give some options and a possible entry.
Ok so, I am sure this has been tested but if you go into the door below the left side of the room, you can either be under the room or in a long corridor that can lead to a duplicate of the lower room.
I don't understand what you are saying. Are you saying to exit the room through the door you come in through, in the floor at the left-hand end of the room, opposite Botwoon's door?
Quote from Guardian Garr:

I'm not sure if you are understanding this at all, so I'm going to try state-the-obvious mode.
When you are in the room before Botwoon, with the Mocktroids in it, no other rooms in the game exist. This applies to any room in the game. When you go through a door, the game unloads the room you've come from (it no longer exists), and loads the one you're entering. You CANNOT X-ray up from one room into another, because the 'room' above you does not exist. The game is just not built that way. You can only X-ray climb from one position to another position vertically higher than the one you started at, IN THE SAME ROOM.
I'll explain more clearly. Also, I know what you said. It is clear to me what you said, but I am finding otherwise and with my previous statement, if you start elsewhere other than Maridia, the game's data is changed.
We will call the Mocktroid Room = Room M We will call the room below that = Room B
While in Room B at the left door, if you X-Ray upwards to Room M, you will be in Room B just under Room M. If you fall nearby, you will be under Room M. If you jump straight up where the door is on the floor, you will enter that door from the bottom. I don't know for sure if you are actually on the Room M map, but I believe you are. Since if you do enter the door from below, you will scroll down to Room B. If you drop into the ground, it will bring you back up to Room M. Which leads me to believe you are in the room.
The first statement is explained in the last paragraph. If you are above Room B but see Room B, you can run right until you reach a duplcate room. Running left is a dead end from what I can tell.
The second statement I am saying is, if you are to get stuck on the door on the right side of Room B, you may be able to get to the right door in Room M. If I can access the bottom of the door of Room M, you may be able to access the right side of the door in Room M.
