Well, yes. It apparently is, but it requires some things for you to do.
First off, at this point you would normally think you'd be stuck:


If you climb up a bit, you'll notice a lone platform next to the wall:


Behind it, there's a secret passage:


Fall through the shaft and bomb/shoot the blocks below to get to your freedom.



However, that's all too good to be true. With the newest stable build of the Metroid Zero Mission level editor, "Zero Fission", I was able to modify the room to be clearable without getting the Power Grip.
The IPS Patch isn't on the attachment system, I guess, since It's jerky for me, Saber had to upload it for me.

Anyway, It must be applied to a clean, unmodified US ROM. Can you beat the game without the Power Grip? Just try. It isn't so easy as you think ;)

It is impossible!

Most peoples are trying pass that tentacle (myself includes) but there are no way pass that tentacle.

Probably only way if somebody can find some weird glitch. Good luck. :P

EDIT:
I see. use you emulator? It is not console possible.

Yeah, Emulator. It's impossible on a real GBA unless you have a Flash Cartridge of such.

no, this is not possible on console or emulator, with normal rom
rom must be patched so that this is possible.

perhaps also there should be patch that makes varia skip properly

It's not weird. It's completely normal besides the modification I did myself. I edited the game itself to give it more challenge.

the trouble is getting gravity suit automatically gives you the varfia. I'm concerned that this process may also give you the Penis Grip.

Also, yoshi, that's rather rude of you to call them all idiots. I hadn't seen this topic until after the first post had been edited, but it seems to me MASTER-88 simply didn't understand that this is a ZM EDIT as opposed to the real game. This version seemed a bit pointless to me at first, but after thinking about it, a 7% run may be interesting to see, even if it is impossible on the actual game.

EDIT4: Is the barrier still there if you enter the room from the right?

i've beaten the game without power gripping before (what's up, morph ball run), so it's definitely possible. i think the bigger problem would be skipping the unknown item -- whichever one it is, it's probably very needed. if it's plasma, you need it to hurt the black pirates. if it's gravity, i don't think you could get through chozodia. and if it's the space jump... well, there's one you can do without. i forget which it is, it's been a long time since i played zm.

edit: i'm kinda curious on how the whole thing goes down. what happens if you don't have all three unknown items when you get your suit back? augh, i'd play with this but don't feel like tracking down roms, patching roms and getting my flash rom working.

i've been cheating. again.

guess what i found!
firstly, if you don't own an item, it does no damage.
secondly, if you're suitless and shinespark or use a lift, the sprites go peculiar
thirdly, you cannot grip suitless if you never got the power grip
and fourthly (most important)
after defeating chozo guardian, you are only given varia. the rest of the items are kept if you got them before, but aren't forced on you. the game doesn't convert unknown items if there's nothing to convert. also, the game does the suit colour change anim even if you didn't get the gravity suit.
