I was under the impression that most runs aren't done on Hard because it's... well, too hard.  Like, to the point of inconvenience.

Whenever I go down to Ridley, I get every item in the area so I don't have to backtrack later on when you have your fully powered suit. It really saves on the time and would make it easier to focus on other items missing. Although for low item runs, those 2 Black Space Pirates are hard to get by, as I have trouble with them even when I have many energy tanks as I now almost exclusively play MZM on Hard.

I cant dash through the first wall with quite easily..I just keep falling down on that puzzle and/or can`t junp through those block`s in upper part quickly enough..

For those having trouble on the black pirates, are you doing the method on the site, or are you just going through by yourself first? They might be tricky since you have to keep firing the entire time, but once you get used to it it's not so bad.
I do it on the site, although that method isn't serving me too well as I get caught in between both of them when they shoot and jump.  I suppose I can attract their attention to the upper platform where I'm not as surrounded or out-maneuvered by them so it'll make it easier to deal with them.
What'd you say?
Why don't people jsut sue the easy method and lure the space pirates to the top? It takes NO skill to do it that way..
The wandering Space Dragon
I've never been able to manage that method, to be honest.
lol no way
lol the main reason I like hard mode is cause I did low% runs and like... you know, on normal it's not as low% as hard. honestly normal's way too easy imo, hard is almost as hard as the NES metroid.
as far as the black pirates go, I'm pretty sure if you just angle your shot down while you approach the edge and shoot rapidly [at] the ground, then step forward slowly until you just barely start making your shots over the corner it should work. if you're too close they'll climb up. it works because the shots go through the corner of the blocks, and he's at a vertical height to shoot at you, just facing the wrong way, so the shots are what make him stop climbing and instead jump off or shoot left.

I'll have to give that a try sometime then. ^^ I've always fought them the normal way. Hop in between them and dodge lasers until they die. lol

Maybe you're talking about getting 2 missile tanks, aj, but I thought having 5 missiles is harder than having 2 missiles and a super, personally.

Also the main thing that makes me jealous about you and scarlet and the like is that I micro-plan nearly every room, and yet I'm still not as fast. You guys appear to just react quicker and improvise a lot better. If I don't plan every moment of a boss fight in a speedrun, I get knocked around quite a bit. I basically memorized the positions and movement of every enemy in Metroid to do a 2-item run, and it probably didn't even take scarlet half a dozen tries to finish her technical demonstration.
lol no way
Oh sure Jagger, I really just am referring to enemy placement and damage and the like, how quickly you can die on hard mode. It took me a while to interpret what you were saying for some reason. The Pal version low% is just 2 missiles, which I got used to last time I played, haha.
I don't really know what to say about like... our reaction time, there's a general awareness that I rely on about enemy position and the like, you do just improvise according to which of the limited patterns they choose to follow. Just practice and really focused playing if you have to, do a bunch of timings by pausing it and try to see what works fastest for you, I don't know. Practice though, it's muscle memory more than anything else.

Oh right I keep forgetting you imported the PAL version.

I'm sure I can get there, it just takes longer. If I can beat Jumper, I can speedrun Zero Mission, right? :^P
The wandering Space Dragon
Planning? What's planning. o.O I'm all instinct/reaction times when I run through a metroid game. Could be why I don't get under an hour though. I just wing the whole thing, from start to finish.
Speedrunner
Damn
I trying any-% category first time since year 2007

I got beat game in 32:58
29% items normal mode

Its 3 minutes & 3 seconds slower than my all around best run. But yeah that was quite good time after 3-4 years breaks. I used several saves and im not care much luck manipulations here. I just play game through because its fun.

I might try another any-% run later. I might got 30-31 minutes easily if i put more effort with this. But this was my first any-% completion since 2007 and that was nice.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
That's still a great run, Master. aiwebs_004
lol no way
Family vacation, free time, not really trying super hard though I still reset plenty.

GameShark (oops, did I just reveal myself)
you should submit it to sda
If you use the code for no alarms in Chozodia, it really helps to get that Energy Tank right before Metal Ridley's room. I tried myself. And it's really weird because if you hit that bottom security line in about the first fourth of its length, the alarm goes off. However, if you hit any of the other fourths, they all disappear except the first one and the alarm remains off. I think the vertical security lines trigger the alarm too.

Who, me?
Dang, you beat the 100% hard run I sent to SDA.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Hard to know whether Samzapp is serious or not. Think
Been trying any% runs lately on Super, so thought I would try one on ZM.  Got 46:49 51% on normal mode.  Could be better, for sure.

Nice.  I can't ever seem to get sub-one hour.  Not that I've practiced nearly enough.

Wall jumping is hard.

There are 3 places in wrecked ship / chozodia where wall jumping takes you to some really time-saving shortcuts, but other than that I don't use it much in ZM.  There's also a couple of places in the tall green norfair shaft where wall jumping comes in handy, but I've found that IBJ works just as well.  The IBJ isn't quite as fast, but the time difference is negligible.
