Alright I've been through a whole lot of practice, and I came up with this when recording today. (on first try to boot!)
Now this segment is noticeably faster from the one I uploaded a while a go, and am really proud with how I improved.

Segment 1

I know that there were a few mistakes on the target shooting, but they aren't that major. (probably only about a second lost) but I think that the rest of the segment makes up for it.

And Paraxade if you have the time could you please tell me where I could improve if I missed anything?

Also I will be uploading segment 2 a bit later.
wow very nice, I'm actually pretty impressed how much you improved from your last segment 1. I still see a few mistakes here and there that you could have ironed out with a few more attempts but overall that is a LOT better than your last one. Keep it up.
Hehe well that's what obsessively playing the game for hours can do.

And yeah I know there where a few more mistakes that could've been avoided, but I was glad that I got that bomb jump in Bio-hazard containment on first try so I decided to keep it.

btw here's segment 2

I've gotten about 6 seconds faster, but I lost some time due to the last elevator not wanting to respond.
Actually I think that I might re-do this segment just to try, and get a 4:11 or so time, but as of right now I won't.

first segment looks really good, way better than your previous attempts. nice job.

still not sure why you scan parasite queen before killing her -- it wastes a good four seconds, while it's really not that hard to aim at her mouth manually.

'cause every attempt that I do manually aiming fails miserably.
I just never get a good clear shot to her mouth.

EDIT: what I meant is that it takes me longer, and more missiles manually aiming then scanning before hand.
red chamber dream
make sure you let the cutscene play out for a second or so before skipping it. that will put the window in the right spot for you to aim. also since pq is right near the save point practicing her should be no big deal.
you should also use the c-stick method for rapid missiles if you're not already. it seems to give better results.
What is this C-Stick method that you're talking about?
hold the c-stick up and mash y.

No I don't really do that, I just time when to press A, and Y, but I will try it out when I get the chance.
even better c-stick method: get a wireless controller, turn it off, hold the c-stick down, and turn it on.

or just use a normal corded controller and reset it with the c-stick down, not really going to help you later in the game though so its probably just best to figure it out without strange controller resets now.

it's not that hard to pause the game and then do it
it's not that hard to hold c-up either.

specially since resetting the controller will be useless once you have more than one beam.

Just recorded a improved version of segments 1 and 2.

Segment 1:

Segment 2:
It looks like from your first segment you are using the y-axis control where you push up to look down. It might make a difference to switch that for the first segment at least as you can hold forward at the very beginning and at the first moment you have control fire, press R, and fire again. with the right timing those first two lights are easy that way, switching the axis might also be good for parasite queen because at the beginning you can jump forward in kind of an R jump to move and aim up at the same time while firing missiles to make the fight extremely quick.
Yeah I tried it a few days ago and now see what you mean tate. (although getting used to the reversed axis is getting to be a PAIN!)

Also I decided to try a few practice runs to figure out some things like what things would be bad in my planned route or what tricks to use where etc.

Right now I'm trying to get the IBJ for early wild down. (I either mess up the timing of the bombs or I end up not unmorphing at the right time.)

I think from now on I'll stream my practice runs so that I can get live pointers.

Alright I did a few tries last night and came up with this. (which is 10 seconds faster then my last segment)
I know there's a mistake or two in here but if you overlook those this segment is perfect.

getting better all the time!!! the second set of lights you can basically just press l fire l fire l fire aim right and l fire l fire l fire to get them good, watch sparky's run to see how its done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2_wNLLufg8. another time saver would be to finish the last bomb jump towards the door instead of on that middle thing, its not really any harder when you get used to it. another thing that probably not a lot of people know is that around 1:50 ish in your video you can get a slight damage boost off the half dead pirate laying there, only ever remember sparky doing it in older runs and should work just fine in players choice.

The reason that the second set of targets wasn't run through as well as it should've was 'cause it wouldn't let me target the last one so a second was lost 'cause I had to manually aim up and I sure as heck didn't want to move backwards just to target it.

Also I always thought that the last bomb jump in Bio-hazard containment to get to the door quicker was out of sheer dumb luck. (at least that was always the case for me.)

And that damage boost thing I'd have to test to see how much time it saves but it probably only saves about a second or so.
I do have a question for you. Are you playing on an old cube? or do doors really open that much slower in the pc version. At 1:23 in your video you hit the door before it opens, on my old cube that happens to me all the time but on my newer(ish) one that never happens.

As for the damage boost thing, it probably only saves a half a second at best, probably less, so i wouldn't worry about that as much as the lights and the bomb jump. Good lights, smooth play and a well done bomb jump and you will have a great segment.

Might also try jumping over the flames in the fourth room to cut the corner and not worry about the two dashes. I may be able to provide a video sometime this weekend to give a better idea of what i mean.

No I don't own a GC all I have to do these segments on is my Wii which is a little older then a year old so I'm assuming if I were to play the game on a cube I'd get the same result with the door thing. not that I'm complaining since it saves me the trouble of having to shoot the door later.

And I dash to get up the ramp in the fourth room which I believe is faster then L-jumping plus I don't have to turn since I'm already facing where I need to go.

I guess the only things that I need to improve here are the last target and the last bomb jump... shouldn't be too hard to fix.

jumping over the flames saves you having to go up the ramp at all allowing you to cut that whole corner also pointing you directly at the door to shoot the door L jump once while charging your beam for the next room. Ill put up a video to show you what i mean shortly.

video:
Ah now I see what you mean.

Yeah I can see that that'd be a lot faster then what I was doing.

Well I guess it's time to re-do that segment once again. (hopefully I'll get a perfect segment this time around.)
*sighs* well I've been doing some thinking recently (not to mention some running) and I've decided that I'm going to go ahead and stop this run and find a 0-00 version and try to beat one of those runs on SDA. (The one I currently have my eyes on is the current SS run)

The reason for this is that even if I would've gotten a reasonable time it would've probably still have been rejected from SDA just because there isn't enough differences between it and the PAL version.

Although I will get as far in my current practice run as I can but after that I probably won't be running the PC version anymore.

Sorry to anyone who was actually supporting me with this run, but hey at least I can do the early wild IBJ and other tricks now that I probably couldn't have done without getting the PC version first.
