1.5-2m copies.

I think they can reach, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be a good game!
Thread title:
i think it will sell a lot initially, and if the game sucks it'll slow down drastically after that.
I really hope it reaches those sales numbers and doesn't bomb.

don't think "how many copies they want to sell" will have anything to do with how good a game it is.

but i do think it will sell a lot and will also be a great game.

Case in point: Carnival Games
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
well, that depends hugely on the advertising budget they allocate to the game.

if it isn't complete shit like the budget for every other metroid (except probably mp1), the game might meet those expectations.
The only adverts for Metroid I've seen on TV here in the UK was Prime 3, though the advert itself was as lame and subliminal (probably) as all the other ones in this country.
Annoying
They'll sell alot depending on how big they make the game sound. It dosn't matter it it's good or bad.

SAMUS ARAN RULES
i like the other prime games they are super cool
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
As do most here, but this isn't a Prime game.  It's a completely separate game, with (what appears to be) a new play style.

All I can say is "fuck the world for how it works". This "we want to sell it X-times"-attitude and concentration on commercial aspects is what you feel in too many games. Thats why best games can only be made by few indipendent people, dedication time and love to them, but not a deadline in first place. Re5 was rushed, I could figure it already out by watching some videos and the way they were presented, and playing it stated my impression(I have to admit it is not easy to intigrate a coop-mode but the way it was done was  trivial anyway). Just for the case Other M development has only began (but I think they dedicated a lot of work in it already) and is supposed to be released in one year then it will be rushed and as player you will feel it. Metroid just needs more time or is Nintendo lacking money?

What do you mean "just begun"?  They already have its engine and graphics working, and were confident enough to finally show it.  They know they can do this game, and have prolly allocated as much time as they figure they need.  They may be confident in the strength of their title, as the bigger Nintendo games rake in the bucks through their longevity (Wii Sports & Fit, Mario Kart Wii, undoubtedly SSBB and SMG).  If they get the word out there, they could rile up interest, and while it wouldn't be as ubiquitous as the exercise/sports minigames/racing games, it could reach out to those wanting to get in on another Nintendo franchise.

Also:  SSBB's Zero Suit Samus.  That may be a draw for newcomers.

I also think they invested work already and graphics shown are mostly final. What else people want expect from a 3D-Metroid on Wii? I am just pointing out the difficulty of "We want to sell it more than X-times", making a Metroid-game for everyone which doesnt loose its potential is just great, but cannot be designed in only few years. My opinion. Whats yours?

Since Nintendo has been doing well at selling stuff to the masses, and has been for a long time, then I think that if they've boldened up to make this claim, they're at least confident in themselves (unless they felt pressured to save face, in which case they may be pre-empting their comfort zone).  Whether they actually have grasped what kind of Metroid format could appeal to a broad audience, I'unno, but I'd say they feel they're onto somethin'.

Were they also confident with the Prime-series?

yes— and it sold well. corruption alone has sold 1.3 million copies.

It seems they were not satisfied with the Prime-series and the way retro realised it when they say other M shall sell more than 1.5 million times.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Or you know, they intend to actually advertise this game in some way and expect it to do well because it's Metroid. 1.5 million being the magic number in today's market.

Oh wait Prime sucked and sold like shit so Nintendo must be all pissed and stuff because they now only base sales figures on a scale of "Better than Prime 3".

They want something more "Metroid-compatible" now, and Prime-series didnt deliver it at desired extent.
The Prime series as a whole (1, 2 and 3 only) sold 5.65 million games and you're saying that Nintendo didn't reach desired sales?  Each one is a million-seller, something 95% of games don't achieve. I don't see how you can say it didn't sell well.  I think it's a very safe assumption for them to say they think Other M will sell 1.5 million copies if they're basing their sales projections on the Prime series.

message from Nintendo: They want to orientate it by the ROOTS and especially by Super Metroid.
They also give the reason that after drifting away from the roots after SM no game selled more than 1,5 million times.
Super Metroid alone sold millions.  If they're making it like SM, they still have reason to be confident in their sales projections.
I think every gamer holds super in highest regard in the series.  You can tell that retro's favorite game was super when you play prime, but I think TN is going to take that influence to the next level.  It's going to be awesome.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Yeah, and the Other M is for 'Mega', so we're gonna git Mega Metroid. Razz
Believe it or not that's actually a floppy disk.

What do you mean by "Metroid compatible"?
